A political controversy has erupted in Kallakurichi district after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) accused a local DMK leader of being involved in a violent assault on a retired government employee and his family.
According to BJP leader K Annamalai, a DMK Youth Wing functionary and municipal councillor named Ramesh, along with his associates, attacked the family following a dispute that began when their pet dog barked as he walked past their house.
In a post on social media platform X, Annamalai alleged that DMK members now posed a greater threat to public safety than traditional criminals. He wrote that under the present government, “the menace to public safety no longer comes merely from rowdies and goondas,” and accused DMK functionaries of behaving with unchecked arrogance. Addressing Chief Minister MK Stalin, he warned that such conduct would not be tolerated and said the days of such arrogance were “numbered.”
The accused individual has been identified as A.K. Ramesh, whose name appears on the Kallakurichi Municipality’s official councillors list as the elected representative from Ward 1. The municipal records describe him as A.K. Ramesh, son of Kupusamy, residing at Kallakurichi, and affiliated with the DMK.
The alleged attack has triggered demands from the opposition for action against those responsible. However, there has been no official response yet from the DMK government regarding the allegations.
Under the DMK regime, the menace to public safety no longer comes merely from rowdies and goondas; DMK functionaries pose a larger threat to the people of our state.
