J&K BJP leader and 2 members of his family shot dead by terrorists, PM inquires about incident

Former BJP Bandipora District President Wasim Bari was shot dead by terrorists outside his shop near Bandipora Police station. 

The incident occurred at around 9 PM on 8 July, 2020 outside their residence in Muslimabad, a region in northern Kashmir.

His brother Umar Sultan and father Bashir were also injured. When terrorists fired at Wasim, his father and brother were also hit by bullets

As per J&K DGP Dilbar Singh, the family had a component of 8 security people. However, at the time of the incident, none of the security personnel were present.

7 policemen have been detained for alleged negligence in protecting BJP’s Wasim Bari who was killed in a terrorist attack.

DGP Dilbagh Singh was quoted saying by ANI that police have filed a case under relevant sections of law and that the men deployed for security were also being detained under the Police Act for negligence.

Leaders across party lines condemned the cowardly act.

Prime Minister Modi enquired about the incident and offered his condolences to the family over phone.

BJP’s National General Secretary (Org) B L Santhosh mentioned that Wasim Bari was a staunch nationalist who led the patriotic society from the front. He said that the country lost a daredevil social activist and added that his only crime was holding the Tirangha high. “It costs life to be a patriot in some parts of the country”, he said.

Ram Madhav, BJP’s National Secretary expressed shock over Bari’s killing.  “Shocked and saddened by d killing of young BJP leader Wasim Bari and his brother by terrorists in Bandipora. Bari’s father who is also a senior leader was injured. This despite 8 security commandos. Condolences to d family,” he tweeted.

BJP president J P Nadda said that the death of party leader Wasim Bari and his family members in a terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir was a “huge loss” for the party and asserted that their sacrifices will not go in vain.

Former CM of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah, also condemned the dastardly attack and expressed his condolences.
