The Bharath Hindu Munnani has called for an investigation into an incident involving a Muslim woman praying at the Mylapore Kapaleeswarar Temple in Chennai. Dillibabu, the organisation’s State Secretary, submitted a petition detailing the events to the HR&CE Commissioner.
On 24 August 2024, Ayeesha Baanu, a Muslim woman from Neelangarai, performed a namaz at the Mylapore Kapaleeswarar temple. She even shared a video of this act on social media. Balamurugan, a temple employee, filed a complaint with the Mylapore Police Station on 29 August 2024. This complaint has since been forwarded to the Cybercrime Division, and the video in question has been removed from YouTube.
In this regard, the Bharath Hindu Munnani has urged the police to investigate the motives behind the Muslim woman’s prayers at the sacred Hindu temple and to take appropriate action. They also request that the footage from the police station’s surveillance cameras and the temple’s security footage be preserved for review.
The organisation also highlighted a previous incident where a Christian woman prayed with the Bible at the same temple and is now concerned about a Muslim woman leading prayers. They argue that Hindu temples should have clear signage prohibiting non-Hindus to avoid such situations.
The Bharath Hindu Munnani believes that HR&CE must be more vigilant and proactive. They advocate for a thorough investigation into the Kapaleeswarar temple incident and recommend placing clear notices at all temples regarding the admission of individuals from other faiths.
