Mrs. Bhagyalakshmi, the wife of late Jana Krishnamurthy, passed away at 8.30 am today. Jana Krishnamurthy was a former Union Minister who was a Swayam Sevak from an early age and had a long background of politics as a member of the Bharathiya Jana Sangh, Janata Party, and BJP.
Mrs. Bhagyalakshmi Amma was born and raised in Dharapuram, where she completed her schooling and later worked as a teacher in the same town. Bhagyalakshmi’s father was a well-known lawyer in Dharapuram.
The late Bhagyalakshmi Amma was a teacher, a Carnatic musician, and a patriot. Her close relatives remember her as someone with no pride or arrogance in being the wife of a powerful person of that time.
Since the Jana Sangh era, Jana Krishnamurthy has been a full-time worker of the party. The funds provided by the party to run the family were very limited at the time. But it was Mrs. Bhagyalakshmi who used that meager sum to educate her children and raise the family.
She was admitted at the Mehta Hospital in Chetpet due to ill health and passed away at around 8.30 this morning. She is survived by two sons and three daughters.
