Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has emphasized the importance of preserving the Tamil language by encouraging the use of Tamil names.

While attending the wedding of the daughter of Mylapore MLA and DMK District Secretary Velu, held at Kalaignar Arangam in the DMK headquarters Anna Arivalayam, Stalin offered his blessings to the newlyweds. Speaking on the occasion, he said, “I would like to request not only the bride and groom but also Velu, because he has named his daughter Anusha, which is not a Tamil name, but it is not a problem, but the bride and groom who here today, please give beautiful Tamil names to the children you will have.”

Later, responding to a suggestion from an online user to create a website featuring Tamil names through the Tamil Development Department, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced via his official X account that the Tamil Virtual Academy would soon launch a dedicated platform showcasing a curated list of meaningful and graceful Tamil baby names. The move has been widely appreciated by Tamil language enthusiasts and cultural advocates across the state.

He wrote, “Brother @srinileaks request will be fulfilled. A website containing beautiful Tamil names for children and their meanings will be launched by the Tamil Virtual Academy !”

Following the shocking Pahalgam terror attack and the subsequent deportation of over 50 Pakistani nationals who had been living illegally in Kashmir for years, social media users have turned their attention toward Tamil actors who previously criticized the abrogation of Article 370 and advocated for a plebiscite in the region.

Actors Vijay Sethupathi and Kamal Haasan, known for their vocal extremist sympathizing opinions, are facing criticism online for their past remarks that were opposing the Indian government’s decision regarding Jammu and Kashmir.

Vijay Sethupathi

In 2019, Vijay Sethupathi publicly criticized the central government’s move to revoke Article 370, arguing that the decision was made without considering the voices of Kashmiri residents. Speaking in an interview with SBS Tamil Australia, he said, “It goes against democratic principles. As Periyar once said, people should have the right to resolve their own issues. Can I interfere in your household matters? You are the one who live I that house and knows what its monthly budget is, children need, and the days affair. Only you can know. I think I may be affectionate towards you, but I cannot administrate you. This the two distinctions, likewise it suits all places. People on the outside can care, but they can’t come in and give suggestions, for example Eelam. We can only speak from what we have heard, only those who live there know the truth.

Kamal Haasan

Similarly, part-time-politician Kamal Haasan, now seen as aligning with the DMK reportedly in pursuit of a single Rajya Sabha seat, also voiced strong opposition to the central government’s actions. In 2019, he called the move to revoke Jammu and Kashmir’s special status and bifurcate the state into two Union Territories a “direct blow to democracy,” and called the move as an autocratic decision-making process.

“This move is highly regressive. Article 370 and 35A have historical significance, and any changes should have been made through a consultative and inclusive process,” he said.

Not only this, back in February 2019, during a public event in Chennai, Kamal Haasan raised several provocative questions, stating, “Why do the soldiers die? Why should our home’s watchman die? If politicians on both sides (in India & in Pakistan) behave properly, no soldier needs to die. The Line of Control will be under control. Why is India not holding a plebiscite in Kashmir? What are they (Indian government) afraid of?”

In a startling revelation, it has come to light that residents in Chennai are being illegally charged for parking in areas such as Marina Beach, Besant Nagar, and T Nagar, despite the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) not authorizing any fee collection. The former parking contractor, Tamil Nadu Ex-Servicemen Corporation (Texco), whose contract expired in December 2024, has continued to collect exorbitant charges without official permission.

The GCC has made it clear that no individual or agency is currently authorized to collect parking fees in the city. Citizens are urged to refuse payment if asked for fees at any parking location. Despite this, for the past four months, Texco personnel—many of whom do not meet the organization’s recruitment criteria—have been collecting fees ranging from ₹20 to ₹90 at will.

Initially hired in July 2024 on a six-month contract to manage over 11,000 parking slots across key areas, Texco was supposed to charge ₹20 per hour for cars and ₹5 for two-wheelers, deploying 450 staff. Instead, they employed about 45 young men on daily wages and continued operations illegally even after their contract ended.

Investigations revealed some vendors, particularly in T Nagar, were colluding with local businesses to ‘reserve’ public parking spots for private use by falsely claiming to have paid lump sums to GCC. Though digital payment systems linked to the GCC’s bank account were issued, cash transactions were rampant, and much of the collected revenue never reached the Corporation’s coffers.

Activists and citizens have flagged this growing scam. Civic volunteer Swadish Bharathi highlighted misuse of QR payment systems and unauthorized hiring practices. Revenue figures show Texco reported ₹1.75 crore over six months—far below GCC’s expected daily earnings of ₹11 lakh—raising serious concerns about transparency and enforcement.

Acknowledging the issue, GCC Commissioner J. Kumaragurubaran confirmed that the Corporation plans to terminate the current system and appoint new regional contractors to bring order and accountability to Chennai’s parking management.

The rabid hatemonger S Sivadas, also known as Kovan, has once again surfaced on the Dravidian political stage. Known for using folk music to promote divisive rhetoric, Kovan has previously made derogatory and caste-based remarks, particularly during the AIADMK regime, targeting late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, her successor Edappadi K. Palaniswami, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Backed by the communist-aligned group Makkal Kalai Ilakkiya Kazhagam, Kovan’s recent focus has shifted to actor-turned-politician Vijay, launching personal attacks against him and his family. Notably, Kovan, once vocal in criticizing AIADMK’s governance, has remained conspicuously silent since the DMK came to power.

At the recent Dravidian Movement Centenary Conference organized by Dravida Iyakka Tamilar Peravai, Kovan launched a scathing, personal critique of Vijay. Rather than engaging in ideological discourse, Kovan’s speech took a hostile tone, filled with character attacks.

Taking a dig at TVK chief Vijay, Kovan said, “A boy came up to me yesterday and asked, ‘You say you wouldn’t allow Amit Shah or any other Shah here—so if I come with Trisha, what will you do?’ Yes, he actually asked that. And that’s the reality, isn’t it? There’s no real policy. He brings Trisha, accepting the ideas of Periyar and puts up hoardings Ambedkar, and claims to be a Periyarist and Ambedkarite, while actually working for the Sanghi’s. His role is to insult and damage the Dravidian model governance. That’s why, when he launched his party, he openly said that the Dravidian model is his enemy. Even now, he says women are not safe in Tamil Nadu. You do not know any data. The only numbers he has are those given by his party members from selling fake tickets. He has no personal knowledge. And yet, he claims about women’s safety in Tamil Nadu. Do you know that?”

Kovan the continued with a familiar Dravidianist narrative comparing Tamil Nadu to more populous state Uttar Pradesh and said, “Do you know that in Uttar Pradesh, from 2021 to 2022, there were nearly 65,000 cases of rape and sexual harassment. Yet he hasn’t said a word about that. In Tamil Nadu, it’s around 6,000 which is minimal. But without knowing the data, he still claims women aren’t safe here.”

Kovan then veered into a personal attack on Vijay and his family, even dragging in an actress, saying, “Brother, let me tell you something. Your own wife didn’t feel safe in your house that’s why she left and ran away from you. First, understand that. You should not speak about women’s safety. You went to Goa on a private jet for your female friend’s wedding. Yes, it’s a personal matter, but I have to say it because he made accusations yesterday. You went to your female friend’s wedding in Goa on a private plane, and there was another woman on that flight. Do you know who she was? It was her would be, I won’t name her. More importantly, one of the men you brought along is a Sanghi. Brother, we know you are a sanghi but you failed to hide your bangs.”

Earlier, DMK Minister MRK Panneerselvam sparked controversy by taking a veiled swipe at part-time-politician Vijay. When he asked them to interpret the initials ‘TVK’, audience members shouted out the names of actresses Trisha and Keerthy Suresh.

The Madras High Court has imposed a fine of ₹50 lakh on the Tamil Nadu government for failing to comply with an order to pay salaries to non-teaching staff at a private college.

The case was brought before the court to ensure the payment of salaries to 12 non-teaching employees hired at GPG Visalakshi Women’s College in Udumalaipettai, located in the Tiruppur district. After hearing the case, the court issued a ruling mandating salary payments to these employees. However, the Secretary of the Higher Education Department, the Director of College Education, and the Joint Director of College Education for the Coimbatore Zone filed an appeal against this decision.

The bench, consisting of Justices R. Subramanian and G. Arulmurugan, who reviewed the appeals, directed that “Director of College Education C. Poorna Chandran must appear and provide an explanation regarding the approval of the appointments, stipulating that no new appointments should be made for the 12 employees approved in 1987.” The government was also required to submit documents concerning the teaching and non-teaching staff positions authorized at Visalakshi Women’s College.

On 29 April 2025, the case was revisited in the High Court. The justices criticized Director Poorna Chandran for appearing in court but failing to respond to any of the court’s questions, which they deemed unfortunate. The judges further accused officials from the Directorate of College Education of obstructing the truth by claiming that the government lacked the necessary documents about the approved staff positions. Consequently, the Tamil Nadu government’s appeal was dismissed, and a fine of ₹50 lakh was imposed.

The bench emphasized that the fine was a result of the non-cooperation and obstinacy of the Directorate of College Education officials. It ordered the Tamil Nadu government to collect ₹25 lakh of the fine from Director Poorna Chandran, with the remaining ₹25 lakh to be recovered from the officers responsible for the disappearance of the documents. Additionally, the court ruled that the 12 non-teaching employees should receive ₹1.50 lakh each in salary within eight weeks. The court also ordered that the remaining ₹32 lakh of the fine paid by the Tamil Nadu government be donated to the Cancare Foundation and Netrodaya Organisations, with ₹12 lakh allocated to each organization within eight weeks. Furthermore, the judges instructed the Higher Education Secretary to take disciplinary action against the officials responsible for the loss of the documents within the Directorate of College Education.

A major controversy has erupted following a young couple’s complaint against DMK figures, including Chennai Mayor Priya’s father, Rajan, alleging harassment and threats to their lives. The couple sought protection at the Chennai Police Commissioner’s office, claiming they feared for their safety.

Aparna (21) and Daniel Joseph (26), both from the Mangalapuram area near Otteri in Chennai, have been in a relationship for the past three years. Facing strong opposition from Aparna’s family, the couple eloped on the 23rd and got married at a temple in Medavakkam. Aparna’s father, Vijesh—a former DMK councillor of Otteri’s 74th ward—allegedly began threatening Daniel and his family following their marriage.

Fearing for their safety, the couple approached the Chennai Police Commissioner’s office and filed a formal complaint seeking protection. Speaking to the media afterward, Aparna accused her father of trying to sabotage their relationship, saying he was using his political influence to intimidate her husband and in-laws. Daniel added that their relationship began during their school years and grew stronger during college. Despite repeated efforts by Vijesh to separate them, they got married out of love and commitment.

Daniel further alleged that after their marriage, Aparna’s father enlisted the support of Mayor Priya’s father, Rajan, who reportedly detained and threatened Daniel’s father over the course of two days. According to Daniel, the threats and harassment were rooted in religious differences—he being a Christian and Aparna a Hindu—which Vijesh used as a justification to oppose the marriage.

Speaking to the media, Daniel Joseph said, “In the second week of April, her father saw her speaking to me over the phone and questioned her about it. He warned aggressively, saying, ‘Don’t talk to that boy. If you do, I’ll cut off your head and roll it along Adiseshan Nagar Road. If not, I’ll kill his father. I’ll kill you too. I’ll hang you. If anyone asks, I’ll just say the family didn’t accept the relationship. I’ll pay money and get out—that’s all my problem is. I won’t let you go with that boy. I’ll kill all the men in his family.’ Like this there were serious threats. My father was taken into custody and held for two days. Later, Mayor Priya’s father, called my family home and spoke with them. As they went to the police station, and started to threaten my father, mother, and sister which escalated the situation further. Despite all this, we both agreed to be together and left home by mutual consent.”

Speaking to the media, Daniel Joseph’s father said, “Priya’s father Rajan came and put so much pressure. He used abusive language and questioned which I could bare. Really, he was not a police officer. He did not understand they were a major and stepped into love marriage. I myself married for love, but he came aggressively to kick with his boots. That SI even brought a large pipe and hurled abusive words against my daughter and wife. An action must be taken against the SI.”

The couple has officially filed a complaint naming both Aparna’s father, Vijesh, and Chennai Mayor Priya’s father, Rajan, and is requesting protection from further harassment and intimidation.

The post Dravidianist Kolathur Mani Attacks Gandhian Dharampal To Peddle Hate Against Brahmins appeared first on The Commune.

Despite getting exposed left, right and centre, Dravidianists seem unapologetic in pushing their false narrative about Brahmins. Rather than reassessing their position, they appear to be recalibrating their strategy following the collapse of the carefully constructed image of E.V. Ramasamy Naicker, (hailed as ‘Periyar’ by his followers) and the Dravidian ideology. But in an age where data speaks loud and clear, stealing the achievements of others and crediting them to their ideological figurehead simply won’t hold up.

A glaring example of this desperation is Kolathur Mani, President of Dravidar Viduthalai Kazhagam (DVK), who has long displayed open hostility toward Brahmins. Now, he’s resorting to spreading falsehoods to keep Dravidian loyalists clinging to the collapsing ideology. At a public event organized by the Cuddalore DVK, Mani boldly made a series of baseless claims—twisting historical facts beyond recognition and passing off personal opinions as absolute truth. His speech not only attacked the Indian education system during the British era but also shamelessly hijacked the legacy of Rettamalai Srinivasan, a respected Scheduled Caste activist from the Madras Presidency, crediting his contributions to EVR with a completely fabricated narrative. This isn’t just distortion—it’s intellectual theft. And no matter how many layers of lies are added, the truth always rises above.

Attacking Dharampal’s Findings

In a clear attempt to distort the well-documented findings of Gandhian thinker, historian, and political philosopher Dharampal, Kolathur Mani has taken aim at The Beautiful Tree: Indigenous Indian Education in the Eighteenth Century. Dharampal’s work, based on exhaustive research of original British colonial records—surveys commissioned by the East India Company and preserved in archives across the UK—exposes the deep-rooted and decentralized education system that existed in India prior to British rule. His findings dismantle the popular “Brahmin-dominated villainy” narrative, revealing that education was widespread and inclusive, with a large number of non-Brahmin students and teachers.

Ironically, the very followers of EVR who once propagated the falsehood that India had no education system before the British, now find themselves reluctantly acknowledging that not only did such a system exist, but it was in fact more diverse than they had claimed. And yet, unable to digest this historical truth, Kolathur Mani has launched a desperate attack to discredit Dharampal’s research—labeling it as RSS propaganda.

At a recent event, Kolathur Mani claimed, “Our people will even say now, ‘Did only Macaulay come and give us education?’ It was before that. There’s a book called ‘The Beautiful Tree,’ written by an RSS man. He has written about the state of education in India. Our people speak without reading it right. Some speak after learning about it on WhatsApp, while others just read the headlines of articles and talk without delving deeper. No one reads about the book; only if you read will you come to know. In the book, he claims that there were schools present—it discusses the number of schools in each districts, the number of girls enrolled, and everything is true, and also included the subjects taught. But what were the subjects? Astrology, cooking, and the Vedas—this was the syllabus. While learning these they claim to have had schools, were they really schools? It’s a gurukulam. Gurukulam means you go to someone’s house, work there, eat, and learn from them.”

He then brings up ‘Sivananda Gurukulam’ and pushes the worn-out claim that only Brahmins were permitted to study the Vedas—another baseless narrative intended to stoke division and sustain the falsehood that traditional education was exclusively for a certain caste. Mani also claimed that the British enacted a law in 1835 granting Scheduled Castes the right to sit on chairs—an assertion with no historical evidence to support it. He went further, saying the British also gave them the right to purchase land, again without citing any credible data or sources to back such claims.

The Truth?

Upon closer scrutiny, it becomes evident that there was no specific British law that explicitly granted lower castes the right to sit on chairs, as the two-bit Dravidianist Mani claims. The often-cited Caste Disabilities Removal Act of 1850 did not deal with social customs like seating rights but was instead aimed at removing legal disadvantages for those who converted from Hinduism to other religions—primarily to ensure legal protections for converts, particularly in matters of property and inheritance. The British motive was clearly centered on encouraging conversions, not on promoting social justice.

In a similar vein, the two-bit propagandist Kolathur Mani continue to push the distorted narrative that pre-British India lacked a proper educational system. This claim doesn’t hold up against the depth of historical research.

The Reality Of The Beautiful Tree

The title of Dharampal’s book, The Beautiful Tree, actually comes from Mahatma Gandhi’s 1931 address at Chatham House in London. There, Gandhi lamented that India had become more illiterate under British rule than it was in earlier centuries. He criticized British officials for uprooting an already-functioning native education system, calling it “a beautiful tree” that was destroyed when colonial administrators dismissed indigenous institutions as inadequate and replaced them with their own rigid models.

Dharampal’s motivation wasn’t to vilify British rule but to understand how Indian society and institutions functioned in the 18th and early 19th centuries. His work revealed that education in India was delivered through diverse institutions like pathshalas, madrasahs, and gurukulas, and that these were often maintained by local communities—including even illiterate villagers—through shared contributions. Referring to Sir Thomas Munro, then Governor of Madras, Dharampal quotes: “Every village had a school.” He further argued that using the word “school” does not fully capture the social and cultural role these institutions played.

The Comprehensive Survey

The backbone of Dharampal’s research was a comprehensive survey of indigenous education in the Madras Presidency, conducted between 1822 and 1825. This survey, overlooked by previous scholars, collected responses from District Collectors across 21 districts. It recorded not only the number of students and teachers but also detailed their caste, gender, and religion. The categories included Brahmins, Vaishyas, Shudras, Muslims, and “other castes”—a group that likely included many who would today be recognized as Scheduled Castes. Dharampal observed that schools were predominantly filled with students from non-Brahmin and lower caste backgrounds.

Students typically began their studies between the ages of five and eight and could spend five to fifteen years in school. School days started at dawn and continued until sunset, with short breaks in between. A wide array of books were used to teach subjects like reading, writing, and arithmetic. For instance, the District Collector of Bellary listed texts such as the Ramayana, Mahabharata, Panchatantra, and various regional Puranas. Other schools used Arabic and Persian texts like the Quran and Gulistan, especially in madrasahs.

Teachers also came from a variety of caste backgrounds. According to an 1836 British report from Bengal, while many educators were Brahmins or Kayasthas, a significant number came from lower castes, including Dalits like the Chandals. While higher education in Sanskrit religious texts was mostly restricted to Brahmins, other disciplines—such as medicine, astronomy, and ethics—attracted students from broader caste groups.

Education for girls was limited, though not absent. In most regions, girls, especially those from Muslim and lower caste families, were taught at home by relatives or private tutors. Exceptions existed in places like Malabar and Vishakhapatnam, where more girls from upper caste and Muslim communities attended school. The decline of indigenous education wasn’t due to a lack of quality, but rather the British taxation system, which cut off the revenue streams that had historically sustained local educational institutions.

Based on the above, it’s clear that propagandist Kolathur Mani not only dismisses well-documented historical research but also distorts the true nature of India’s traditional education system, reducing it to a mere caricature. Rather than confronting facts with reasoned critique, he resorts to labeling a scholarly work as ideological propaganda—revealing both an intellectual weakness and a deliberate misrepresentation of history.

Lies About ICS Peddled By Kolathur Mani

Kolathur Mani didn’t stop at his distortions at surface-level; he went further to allege that the Indianisation of the Indian Civil Service (ICS) was primarily driven by non-Brahmin associations and Dravidian ideologues. Mani claimed, “There were no high-ranking positions for Indians in this country—no Indian held posts such as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Deputy Collector, or Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO); all such were occupied by the British. Then, a demand arose. The Congress started a party, but it was not originally a party formed for India’s independence. It was more a association like a residents’ welfare association—an association of Indians that merely raised demands and nothing more. The first demand they (Non-Brahmin Association) kept was to provide service (administrative) to Indians. Their resolution called for the Indianisation of public services. What did that mean? It meant they were asking for posts like RDO and DSP to be opened to Indians. At that time, Indians were not allowed to sit for the ICS exams. They made the demand—and eventually, it was granted.”

However, this narrative is historically misleading.

The Truth?

The Charter Act of 1853 had already laid the foundation for Indian entry into the ICS by opening up the service to Indians and separating the executive and legislative functions of the Governor-General’s council—decades before the Non-Brahmin Movement formally began in 1916.

In reality, several key figures and organizations championed the cause of Indian representation in the civil services. Dadabhai Naoroji, often referred to as the Grand Old Man of India, persistently argued that excluding Indians from the ICS was both unjust and economically harmful. As an MP in the British Parliament (1892–1895), he advocated for the exams to be held in India.

Likewise, Surendranath Banerjee, an Ex-ICS officer turned nationalist leader, mobilized public sentiment through the Indian Association, founded in 1876, making the demand for holding the ICS exams in India a central issue. The Indian National Congress (INC), from its earliest sessions in the 1880s, passed consistent resolutions pushing for simultaneous exams in India and Britain and sought adjustments in age and qualification criteria to allow broader Indian participation.

Leaders like Gopal Krishna Gokhale and Annie Besant also played vital roles in this reform movement. Besant, despite being British, supported Indian self-rule and advocated for administrative reforms, including local conduct of ICS exams, through the Home Rule Movement. Even some British-led bodies, such as the Islington Commission in 1912, acknowledged the demand, although they often offered only partial support. The breakthrough came in 1922 when the ICS exams began to be conducted simultaneously in India and England.

Amidst all these efforts, one significant yet often overlooked figure was Rettamalai Srinivasana Scheduled Caste activist from Tamil Nadu played a pioneering role even before every others in the state by submitting multiple petitions to the colonial government demanding that the ICS exams be held in India—well ahead of many others and without the backing of elite organizations, making his contribution especially notable.

Yet, without hesitation, Mani attempted to appropriate the legacy and achievements of national leaders to support his misleading narrative—that E.V. Ramasamy (EVR) and the Dravidian movement were solely responsible for India’s major milestones. This narrative, like many others he promotes, is a distortion of historical facts.

AIADMK General Secretary and Opposition leader in the assembly Edappadi K. Palaniswami raised serious doubts over the police encounter of Thiruvengadam, a known rowdy element allegedly linked to the murder of Tamil Nadu Bahujan Samaj Party leader Armstrong. He questioned whether the encounter was staged to prevent Thiruvengadam from testifying in court and to shield the actual perpetrators behind the murder.

The issue came up during a discussion in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly over funding for the police department. AIADMK MLA O.S. Manian criticized the DMK government, stating that many of the promises made to the police before taking office remain unfulfilled. He contrasted the current situation with what he described as a “golden era” under former Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami, where peace and progress were prioritized. Manian further alleged that crime—including murder, robbery, and sexual assault—has become rampant, and that even senior citizens are no longer safe in the state.

Manian also highlighted rising costs of construction materials like M-sand and gravel. Responding to this, Minister Duraimurugan said that orders had been given to quarry and crusher associations to reduce prices by ₹1,000. Palaniswami challenged this claim, asking how a ₹1,900 price increase could be justified with only a ₹1,000 reduction.

In response, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin defended his government’s record, listing AIADMK-era incidents in Pollachi and Thoothukudi as evidence of misrule. He said the AIADMK had compromised Tamil Nadu’s interests to protect themselves from corruption cases. Stalin also claimed that 2024 saw a drop in murder cases and noted that over 15,800 individuals had been detained under the Goondas Act during the DMK’s tenure. He added that police casualties had significantly decreased.

Interrupting, Palaniswami demanded clarity on whether Thiruvengadam’s death in police custody—allegedly while being taken to recover weapons—was orchestrated to silence him. He asked how Thiruvengadam came to possess a sickle when it was claimed the weapon used in the Armstrong murder was of the same kind. He insisted the true culprits be apprehended and brought to justice.

Palaniswami also accused the Speaker of denying AIADMK legislators an opportunity to express their views, to which the Speaker responded that Palaniswami had been speaking for nearly an hour, making the complaint unfair.

Following the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, senior BJP leader H Raja strongly condemned the incident and called for the monitoring of individuals who express support for Pakistan.

Speaking to the media on 28 April, Raja criticized leaders like VCK’s Thol Thirumavalavan, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, and others, accusing them of showing support for Pakistan. He stated that groups like Hamas, which have carried out violent attacks against Israel, are among the main organizations driving global Islamic terrorism, most of which operate from Pakistan—not Arab countries. He added that during a Hamas attack on Israel that killed over 5,000 people, the Israeli public stood by their government rather than blaming it. In contrast, he said, India has more people who speak against their own country than foreign enemies do.

Raja went on to say that some individuals within India, whom he called traitors, even observed India’s Independence Day in 1947 as a day of mourning. He accused them of being like mercenaries who once served the British. He also claimed that the Pakistani flag was raised in Melpalayam on 14 August 1947, as a sign of misplaced allegiance. Drawing a comparison with the United States, he said that although Americans come from different places, they don’t speak against their country the way some do in India. According to Raja, it’s this internal disloyalty that gives an advantage to countries like Pakistan, which oppose India.

H. Raja cautioned, “What I want to tell them is: stop speaking against the nation expressing support for Pakistan. We also desire it, we are not war mongers, but if war does arise sometimes, can anyone guarantee that these individuals won’t act against the country? Right now, what are the they are openly speaking and writing in Facebook?  Asks ‘Can we blame the nation for the wrongdoings of four or five?’ Yet the country has admitted itself. Their Defense Minister, Khawaja, has stated that, ‘we’ve been involved in such activities against India for the past 30 years.”

Continuing his criticism, H. Raja took aim at VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan, saying, “I am asking, does this Thirumavalavan not know justice at all? Does he not have any loyalty towards this country? Is it his condition to speak against the country? Therefore, if a war comes tomorrow such bad force will act against this country. Therefore, the government should put them under surveillance right now. I would like to inform you that if not, the country will be in danger.”

H. Raja went on to criticize the DMK and its allies for their hypocrisy. He targeted those who celebrated and supported Karnataka leaders like D.K. Shivakumar—who had openly stated that he would not release Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu—by offering them snacks like bajjis, Kovilpatti groundnuts, and even Kanchipuram silk.

He accused Thirumavalavan and the Communist factions of backing both Siddaramaiah and D.K. Shivakumar, despite their refusal to provide even a drop of water to Tamil Nadu. Raja noted that while India generously gives 80% of the Indus River’s water to Pakistan under the Indus Waters Treaty, Pakistan continues to act aggressively toward India.

He condemned the Pakistani sympathizers as as “evil forces” and warned, “if they continue on this path, the people of India will rise up and silence them.”

An unsettling incident unfolded at a well-known biryani outlet. Salem RR Biryani, in Chidambaram’s Vandigate area, where a customer reportedly discovered a cockroach in their food, leading to a heated dispute with the staff. A video of the confrontation has since gone viral across social media platforms.

The issue came to light when a couple from Virudhachalam visited the restaurant for lunch. While eating, they were horrified to find a cockroach in the biryani served to them. Tensions quickly escalated, and a verbal altercation ensued between the couple and the restaurant employees.

The situation became even more concerning when it was revealed that the woman involved is pregnant. Following the incident, she and nine others, including children, sought medical attention at the Government Medical College Hospital in Annamalai Nagar, Cuddalore. While most have since been discharged, the pregnant woman remains under medical observation.

The incident has caused alarm among local patrons, with many expressing concern over food safety standards. The viral video has sparked widespread criticism and raised questions about hygiene practices in popular eateries.

This is not the first time in recent months that such news have been coming out about unhygienic biryani shops. Earlier this month, Food Safety officials sealed Hotel Bilal Biryani in Triplicane after over 20 customers reportedly suffered food poisoning on 30 March 2025 from consuming beef biryani and beef rolls. Victims experienced vomiting and dysentery, with several hospitalized at the Communicable Diseases Hospital. Following customer protests and police complaints, officials inspected the premises and found food safety violations. A separate complaint was filed against Hotel Bilal’s Anna Salai branch after two college students fell ill following a family dinner. Both the Triplicane and Ice House police have registered cases against the respective outlets.

SS Hyderabad Biryani in Kodungaiyur, Chennai, was shut on 19 September 2024 after 40–45 people suffered vomiting and diarrhoea, reportedly after eating biryani. Some were treated at the Communicable Diseases Hospital, while others sought private care. Food safety officials found the kitchen unhygienic but couldn’t collect food samples as the restaurant had cleared them. Locals questioned the delay in sealing the outlet. A viral video showed distressed customers confronting police, citing hospitalised family members. Authorities confirmed the closure and ongoing investigation, though it’s unclear if food poisoning was the cause.
