Arvind Trivedi who played the iconic role of Raavan in Indian TV series Ramayana passed away at 82

Actor Arvind Trivedi, who played the iconic role of Raavan in the hugely popular Ramayan TV series that was broadcast in Doordarshan in 1987, died Tuesday (October 5) night following a heart attack.

Arvind Trivedi was 82 years old and was unwell for the past few months and on Tuesday night suffered a heart attack. The news of his passing away was confirmed by his nephew Kaustubh Trivedi. Ramayan was produced by Ramanand Sagar and the show was narrated by famous actor Ashok Kumar and later by Sagar who was also the director. 

Actor Sunil Lahiri, who played the role of Laxman in Ramayan, wrote on Twitter (as translated from Hindi) reads, “This is indeed very sad news as Arvind Bhai is no longer with us. May God bring peace to his soul. I am speechless I lost father figure my guide well wisher and gentleman.”

Arvind Trivedi’s career as an actor spanned over 40 years, and he acted in nearly 300 Gujarati and Hindi films and was also featured on the popular show Vikram Aur Betaal.

Actor Arun Govil who played the role of Prabhu Shree Ram said, “Trivedi ji was a very noble, religious, simple natured person and my dear friend and undoubtedly, he will go straight to the supreme abode and will find the company of Lord Shri Ram,”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi too took to Twitter to remember the Ramayan actor and stated, “We have lost Shri Arvind Trivedi, who was not only an exceptional actor but also was passionate about public service. For generations of Indians, he will be remembered for his work in the Ramayan TV serial. Condolences to the families and admirers of both actors. Om Shanti.”

The series was reaired during the 2020 Coronavirus lockdown and broke several viewership records globally. This iconic television series became the most watched TV show in the world, with 77 million viewers on 16 April 2020.
