The DMK which had promised in its manifesto that they would scrap the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test as soon as they come to power has failed with students all set to write the exam today (September 12).
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and his MLA son Udhayanidhi Stalin had extensively campaigned across the state that the first signature that they would be putting would be on banning NEET.
But nothing was done for a month with the government also faced with battling the second wave of COVID-19. After the exam notification was released, the Stalin government formed a committee under Justice AK Rajan. It was alleged that more than 80,000 feedback were received against the exam.
Health Minister Ma. Subramanian had started hinting a couple of weeks ago that it would not be possible for them to scrap NEET. The Health Minister started appealing to students to prepare for NEET this year and that adequate coaching be given to them through the School Education Department.
In the DMK’s political game, students have been facing stress as they were kept bewildered about the status of exam this year.
Opposition AIADMK has been hitting out at the DMK for playing with students’ lives and for making false promises. Many on social media have been lashing out at the Stalin government for playing politics using students as pawns.
BJP Tamil Nadu President K. Annamalai sent out a message on social media wishing the students the best for the exam.
