Ancient Vinayagar idol vandalised near Gudaloor in Tamil Nadu

In the Keezh Nadukani forest area in Gudaloor of Nilgiris district, there is an ancient Vinayagar idol that has been sculpted in a single stone. The backside of the same idol has a sculpting of lord Shiva sitting in Yogic meditation. There is a tradition where locals of the region seek permission from the Forest department and visit this temple on the 1st of January, every year.

Day before yesterday, devotees have gone to this forest Vinayagar temple for worship. They were shocked to find the Vinayagar idol completely shattered and destroyed. On receiving information, the Police Officials and Forest department officials, are investigating the issue and trying to find the perpetrators responsible for this.

On asking the devotees, they said, “This ancient Ganesha idol has been shattered. This is making us so worried. Rumours are that there is a treasure below the temple here. They may have shattered the idol even for this reason. Serious investigation has to take place to find who has trespassed into this area and has vandalised the idol.”
