Amazon had sent out an internal email to its employees telling them to delete the Chinese-owned TikTok app.
After a few hours, the company announced that it was a “mistake” and clarified that there is no change in policy regarding TikTok.
“The TikTok app is no longer permitted on mobile devices that access Amazon email,” the email read.
The employees had to delete the TikTok app to retain their mobile access to their company email.
It was clear that the email was related to the new National Security Law implemented by China and focused on geopolitical concerns as it cited the app’s “security risks.”
Amazon spokeswoman Jaci Anderson denied to answer any question about what caused the “mistake.”
TikTok said that they did not notify them before sending the email on Friday.
TikTok also said that they would welcome a discussion to address their issues with the app as they “didn’t understand Amazon’s concerns.”
A TikTok spokeswoman declined to comment further Friday evening.
