Following the incident where a Hindu Aikyavedi worker was arrested for a post on Halal, the organization’s President K.P. Sasikala has lashed out calling out the hypocrisy in a Facebook post which is now going viral.
Sasikala in her post pointed out how alcohol products are getting a “halal certificate” and questioned how such a certificate can be given to a product that has ingredients considered ‘haram’ (forbidden) in Islam.
K P Sasikala said that a prominent company got halal certification for producing Ethyl Acetate which is composed of 90% alcohol and 10% distilled water. Incidentally, alcohol falls under the category of Haram i.e. forbidden for the Muslims.
India has been exporting this product to various nations, including the Middle-East, and as per available data, five years ago these products only needed a certificate from the food standards authorities. However, due to pressure exerted by authorities in the Middle East, halal certification had to be issued in order for the products to be exported.
Halal certification is based on Islamic religious principles, but more importantly, it is also based on a monetary principle where the halal certificate issuing authority ― the authority being Muslim organisations or private bodies ― charges ₹50,000 per certification. What is even more disturbing is that the amount has to be given in “cash and not via cheque”.
Sasikala only pointed out at the blatant hypocrisy in her Facebook post and said that with money, anything haram can be converted to halal.
The other significant aspect pointed out by her are the threats emanating from halal certification ― the certification is seen by many as an act of waging an economic jihad and maintaining a monopoly on industries, and ultimately, the economy.
