Tiruppur district was shaken by the suicide of Selvanandham, an AIADMK IT Wing secretary of Kundadam West Union, who reportedly ended his life after recording an emotional audio message on his phone. In the note, he accused certain DMK members of extortion and mental harassment, sparking intense political stir.
Selvanandham, apart from his role in the AIADMK’s IT unit, was involved in the maize trade, sourcing from a company based in Palani, Dindigul district. His wife, Muthu Priya, serves as the president of the Navanari Panchayat Council.
According to the audio message he left behind, Selvanandham claimed that a business dispute escalated when Manimaran, the DMK Madurai Zone in-charge, and Muthukumar, an office-bearer of the DMK’s Madurai South District Fishermen’s Association, began pressuring him for money, allegedly acting in the interest of the company. He stated that they had been harassing him continuously for two months.
He further alleged that he was coerced into meeting DMK West Union Secretary S.V. Senthilkumar in Dharapuram, where he was blackmailed into writing a letter under duress. To settle part of the alleged demands, he said he had borrowed ₹10 lakhs at interest and already paid ₹5 lakhs. However, the harassment reportedly continued.
In the voice recording, a tearful Selvanandham said, “He seems to be the DMK’s Madurai District Regional In-charge, P.T. Manimaran. He and his associate Muthukumar, the DMK’s Madurai South Fishermen’s Wing organizer, have been torturing me for the past two days… no, for the past two months. Pavithra Agencies, Pavithra Travels, based in Palani, near Thazhayuthu, called me and made me load maize. After loading the maize, last year they cheated me by demanding a huge sum of money. They took me to SVS chairman in Dharapuram, threatened me, and made me write a document. For that, I borrowed ₹10 lakh at interest and gave it to them. This year, I gave them another ₹5 lakh, whatever I could manage, and told them I’d pay the rest little by little. But they didn’t leave me alone. They continued to torture me, humiliating and degrading me. Furthermore, a person named Srinivasan from Rajavalath, of P.T. Agencies MTS Traders, who is been creating bills for vehicles that never even came to me, diverting the goods elsewhere, and now claims I owe him ₹85 lakh. Last week, he came to check the accounts and said all the vehicles that never arrived actually came to me. He’s deceiving me. He also summoned me to a place called Ottakadai on the Palladam road from Kundadam, and inside his car, he threatened me and forced me to sign two checks: one for ₹40 lakh and another for ₹45 lakh. The RC for my Om Muruga Oil Mill and Traders is in my wife’s name. They are threatening me with 420 (fraud) cases and so on. Because of all this, I’m extremely distressed and have reached a point where I feel like ending my life. Please, nobody should cheat anyone like this. After I’m gone, please don’t trouble my family. My suffering is enough. Please, nobody cheat anyone… I can’t take it anymore.” He died after allegedly consuming poison on 2 July 2025.

Kundadam Police Inspector Batra confirmed that Selvanandham had financial dealings with multiple individuals and acknowledged a transaction dispute. “As per the audio, he speaks of threats. However, no formal complaint has been filed by his wife against any DMK members. We will examine his phone as part of the investigation,” the inspector said.
The suicide of a prominent AIADMK functionary, coupled with serious accusations against DMK figures over a business conflict, has caused a major stir in Tiruppur’s political circles.
