Raja, who runs a grocery store in Mudhu Nagar, Cuddalore had an unusual visitor on Saturday. A man took out a billhook and started hitting at the store demanding free groceries. As the staff at the store stood shocked, the man used his billhook and started hitting at the shelves and products. Customers who were shopping at the store ran away in fear.
The man pointed the billhook at the store owner and threatened him for refusing to give away the groceries for free.
The incident was recorded in the CCTV camera fixed at the shop. The store owner Raja took the evidence to file a police complaint. However, the police did not take action immediately. After the CCTV footage went viral on social media, the police arrested the man and produced him before the magistrate. He was later put in Cuddalore jail.
During the investigation, it was found that the man named Imayan was the son of a DMK office bearer. Before this incident, he is said to have been involved in a similar incident where he brandished a billhook and demanded items for free. The police had at that time sent him after a warning.
Earlier this week, a biryani outlet in Karur was vandalized by a DMK office bearer after he was refused biryani as there was nothing left. Two years before in August 2018, Yuvraj, a DMK youth wing secretary and another party member named Dhivakar thrashed a hotel staff after he refused to give them free biryani.
