Within just days of the DMK coming to power, the flagship schemes launched by the outgoing AIADMK government have come under attack.
In yet another incident of vandalism, the ‘Amma Clinic’ in Vedaranyam in Nagapattinam district was attacked by ‘mysterious persons’. This Amma Mini Clinic located in Avarikadu panchayat has been running for the past few months. This clinic caters to a large number of fishermen from the area.
Some of the mysterious persons suspected to be DMK cadres have torn down the banners and vandalized the property. Pictures of torn name boards and damaged windows have been circulating in social media.
Former AIADMK Minister SP Velumani and current MLA elect from Thondamuthur tweeted that these clinics which were launched with the noble aim of making the best medical facilities available to poor in times of calamity have now come under attack and urged the police to take strict action against the perpetrators.
Amma Mini Clinics were launched by the previous AIADMK regime in December 2020 when the pandemic was raging across the country. 2000 such mini clinics were to be set up across the state to strengthen the public health infrastructure. These mini clinic will have have a doctor, a nurse and an assistant to help with public consultation along with facilities for checking body temperature, blood pressure, blood oxygen, haemoglobin, blood sugar, urine samples, etc.
