After 3-Year Legal Battle, 150-ft National Flag Re-Hoisted At Kanyakumari Zero Point

After a three-year legal battle, the 150-foot national flag at Mahadanapuram in Kanyakumari was re-hoisted on Monday, 26 January 2026, following an order of the Madras High Court.

The tricolour was hoisted by Nainar Nagendran, the Tamil Nadu BJP president, on Republic Day after the High Court permitted former Member of Parliament Vijayakumar to personally take charge of the maintenance of the flag.

The flagpole, located at Mahadanapuram, had remained without the national flag amid prolonged litigation over its upkeep and management. With the court clearing the way for Vijayakumar to maintain the structure, the long-pending issue was resolved, paving the way for the re-hoisting of the flag.
