The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee has announced the appointment of 71 new district presidents across the state as part of an organisational restructuring exercise. The appointments were officially notified by All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary K.C. Venugopal.
According to the list released by the party, Karate R Selvam has been appointed district president for Central Chennai East, Gopi for Central Chennai West, Madharma Gani for North Chennai East, and Dilip Babu for North Chennai West, among several others. In total, 71 leaders have been named as district presidents across Tamil Nadu. Notably, the list did not include appointments for Kanyakumari and Coimbatore districts, indicating that announcements for these districts may be made separately.
Congratulating the newly appointed office-bearers, Praveen Chakravarty, Chairman of the Professionals’ Congress and National Head of the Congress Data Analytics Department, extended his wishes in a statement and on social media. He said, “Congratulations to all the newly appointed district Congress presidents. You have been carefully chosen to strengthen the Congress party in every district with self-respect and dignity, without submitting to any other party. It is your responsibility to demonstrate the Congress party’s true grassroots strength in every district.”

The appointments come at a time when the Congress is attempting to reassert its organisational relevance in the state, strengthen booth-level structures, and prepare for upcoming electoral contests. Party sources indicate that the restructuring is aimed at energising the cadre, improving coordination at the district level, and projecting a renewed leadership pipeline.
