Milk supply in Tamil Nadu has been severely due to decrease in daily procurement by Aavin, with reports of shortages in various areas since early March.
The New Indian Express reports that there has been a decrease of 9 to 10 lakh litres of daily milk procurement in Chennai, and residents in the southern, eastern, and suburban areas have experienced delays in deliveries.
Residents are expressing concerns over delays in milk deliveries, with retail supply being delayed up to three hours and for cardholders up to two hours. Sources say that dairies in Sholinganallur, Madhavaram, Ambattur, and Kakkalur have been receiving supplies late from the districts.
With the milk supply being affected, it remains to be seen how the government will address this issue in the coming days as the state is facing a shortage due to lower procurement by the state from milk suppliers.
The Hindu Business Line reported that the state government has been favouring a few private milk firms, one of which is owned by a relative of a top DMK leader. The supply of Aavin milk in areas where these firms have a strong presence, has reportedly been curbed to allow them to benefit from the situation.
It is worth noting that the Tamil Nadu government has been silently and steadily increasing the prices of milk and milk products supplied by Aavin in the state. This move by the government has caused immense agony to the public.
On the other hand, milk producers have been demanding a rise in procurement prices by the government with many protesting by pouring away the milk on roads.
