It has been revealed that the robbers robbed the SBI Bank ATMs in Chennai had sent the money to Haryana through the Kotak Bank ATM. The gang that robbed ATMs with SBI Bank ATMs in Chennai was identified to be the “Mewat” gang of robbers in the state of Haryana.
Amir Ars, the first robber to be arrested in the incident, has been remanded in custody for 5 days and police have arrested a robber named Virender in Haryana on the basis of information obtained during the investigation. He is expected to be brought to Chennai for questioning. The investigation has revealed that Virender is the son of Amir Ars Maman and that the two had rented a room at Sharma Lodge in Arumbakkam.
Using Google Maps, they robbed SBI Bank in Chennai of knowing where the ATM with cash deposit machine is.
They had came to Chennai by plane and went to Kodambakkam and hired a two-wheeler. They bought a processor called SFS and used it for robbery.
The robbers, who had looted about Rs 20 lakh in three days, had sent it to a bank account in Amir’s mother’s name through the Kotak Bank branch in Taranaki, saying they would be caught by the police if they took it in hand.
Police have confiscated debit cards of more than 10 different bank accounts from them and are also conducting a investigation into the person who rented the two-wheeler to the robbers.
Virender who was brought to Chennai by flight has been taken into custody at the Taramani police station and is being questioned. The police also took him to an ATM and made him do a live demo of how they looted.
