IIT Madras startup to develop wristband that detects COVID-19

Muse Wearables has raised ₹ 22 crore to develop a wristband that can identify COVID-19 symptoms at an early stage.

The wristband will be Bluetooth-enabled. It can be connected to any smartphone using the Muse Health App. User vitals and activity data are saved on the phone and the remote server.

The COVID-19 detector wristband carries sensors to detect temperature of the skin, heart rate, and saturation of blood oxygen. These sensors can even work remotely and track these vitals to ensure early diagnosis of symptoms.

The app will also get alerts from the Arogya Setu app which will notify users immediately when they enter a  hotspot or a containment zone.

They will also be able to raise an emergency alert  when faced with any difficulty such as when the body temperature rises above the desired threshold.

“We are targeting two lakh product sales this year with plans to achieve 10 lakh product sales by 2022 across the world. The investors believe in our innovations and believe that we can create a huge difference in the consumer tech space and we have been able to generate funding of ₹22 crore,” said K L N Sai Prasanth, an IIT Madras alumni.

This wristband will cost  ₹ 3,500 and will be available for use across 70 countries by August.
