The government of Pakistan suffered a huge embarrassment when US Congressman Scott Perry called the new Ambassador Masood Khan a ‘jihadist’ and ‘a bona fide terrorist sympathizer’ who is ‘working to undermine our interests in the region’.
Already, the US State Department has put on hold Khan’s appointment as the new ambassador because he is one of the leading voices in Pakistan that is calling for the release of convicted Islamic terrorists Aafia Siddiqui.
Pakistan appointing Masood Khan as its ambassador to the United States comes just weeks after a British Pakistani took four Jews as hostages in a synagogue in Colleyville, Texas, USA, on January 15.
The demand of the hostage-taker was for the release of convicted Pakistani terrorist Aafia Siddiqui. Siddiqui, also known as ‘Lady al Qaeda’, who is is serving an 86-year U.S. prison sentence for her 2010 conviction for shooting at soldiers and FBI agents.
Congressman Scott Perry is a member of the Freedom Caucus, also known as the House Freedom Caucus, a congressional caucus consisting of conservative Republican members of the United States House of Representatives.
In the letter to President Joe Biden, Congressman Perry said, “While I am encouraged that the State Department has reportedly placed a pause on approving Masood Khan as the new Ambassador from Pakistan, a pause is not enough. I urge you to reject any diplomatic credentials presented to you by Masood Khan and reject any effort by the Government of Pakistan to install this jihadist as Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States,” the letter read.
Perry called Pakistan a ‘super terrorist state’, and in his letter, he stated, “A litany of examples accompanies Mr. Khan’s perverse attachment to Islamic terrorism, which makes it exceedingly obvious that Pakistan has embraced its identity as a super terrorist state” and his appointment would undermine the “security of our Indian allies,”.
Masood Khan has a long history of being a terrorist sympathiser and has consistently lent his support to terrorists and terror organisations. He even asked youths to emulate Kashmiri terrorist Burhan Wani who was waging Jihad in India and was nutrilised by the security forces.
The Congressman said, “In 2019, Khan willingly appeared alongside Fazlur Rehman Khalil, a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) who is the founder of Harkat-ul-Mujahideen (HuM), a US-designated foreign terrorist organization.”
