Nepal army opens fire on Indo-Nepal border, 1 Indian dead and 2 others injured

Amidst the ongoing dispute over Kalapani, Lipulekh and Limpiyadhura and with Nepal’s Parliament passing a controversial bill claiming the above regions to itself, the Nepal Army opened fire near the Indo-Nepal border in Sitamarhi district of Bihar killing one Indian citizen leaving 2 others injured.

It was reported that another local has been captured by the Nepal Army.

The deceased Dikesh Kumar was 25 years old. Those injured were identified as Umesh Ram and Uday Thakur who were shot in the right arm and right thigh respectively. The injured have been admitted in the hospital and are reportedly out of danger.

The Seema Suraksha Bal (SSB) and the local police have been positioned at the border. The Nepal army is camping on the Narayanpur border.

The ANI had reported that at around 08:40 AM, a family was on their way to Nepal when a Nepal security personnel at the border asked to go back leading to a verbal altercation. The Nepal security personnel fired around 15 rounds in which 3 were injured and 1 person died.

The Press Trust of India (PTI) quoting SSB DG Kumar Rajesh Chandra reported that the incident happened deep inside Nepalese territory. He said that talks are on to release the detained person so that matters don’t escalate.
