A controversy has erupted in the Sivaganga Assembly constituency after posters targeting actor-politician Karunas appeared across the region, coinciding with his likely candidature as part of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)-led alliance.
The posters surfaced shortly after indications emerged that Karunas, founder of the Mukkulathor Pulippadai, could be fielded from Sivaganga in the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections scheduled for 23 April 2026. The sudden appearance of the posters has triggered political tension and widespread discussion among residents.
Several posters carried sharp and provocative messages questioning his candidature. The poster read, “Sivaganga mannil unakku enna velai?” (What business do you have in Sivaganga?), while another used wordplay on his party name, stating, “Pulippadai-ya? Full Kudiya?”, in a mocking tone.
The poster further reads “Votes for me, Cut for the people
Let Stalin continue, Let Karunas loot
Will you do it? Look back mister!
Oh, you fool who claims to be a native!
In this soil of Sivaganga, where valor flourishes,
You shameless drunkard,
What business do you have here?”

According to political developments, the Sivaganga seat is expected to be allocated to Karunas as part of the DMK’s alliance arrangement. The broader alliance has also reportedly accommodated smaller parties, with candidates set to contest under the DMK’s ‘rising sun’ symbol.
The posters have raised questions about local acceptance of his candidature. It is noteworthy that Karunas does not have an established grassroots base in the constituency, and the messaging in the posters suggests possible resistance among sections of voters.
Police have initiated an inquiry to identify those responsible for putting up the posters. Officials are examining multiple angles, including whether the posters were put up by internal factions or by rival political groups.
