Actor-turned-politician Vijay has submitted a formal complaint to the Director General of Police (DGP) in Tamil Nadu, seeking strict legal action against Ponraj Vellaichamy over his derogatory remarks about women cadres of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
The development follows a controversy triggered by comments made by Dravidianist commentator and former scientist Ponraj, who is seen as aligned with the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), as reported in Hindustan Times.
Complaint to DGP
In a video clip shared on X, Vijay was seen leaving after submitting his complaint.

A fan account also shared a copy of his letter addressed to the DGP, in which he called for strict action.
A part of his letter read, “I request you to take strict legal action against this person who has been speaking very badly about the women of our Tamil Nadu and protect the dignity and respect of women.”

Earlier, Vijay had issued a strongly worded statement in Tamil on X condemning the remarks. The statement read, “A mercenary individual, functioning as a supporter of the DMK with words that fall short of honoring and praising my mother, sister, and younger sisters—who are truly worthy of the pride and reverence of this land—has resorted to criticism that has spilled from their mouth.”
He added, “On behalf of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, I condemn in the strongest terms the opportunistic gamblers who operate under the embrace and support of the DMK leadership. I also strongly condemn the DMK government for taking no action whatsoever against such persons.”
He further stated, “Thinking to provoke the T.V.K., this act—which insults all women collectively—will ensure, by the unanimous decision of the mother clan in the upcoming election, that the evil force DMK is firmly, firmly, firmly destined to swallow the land.”

What Ponraj Said
The complaint comes after Ponraj made controversial statements during an interview, which drew widespread criticism.
Ponraj said, “One very big truth that I have come to know is this – Tamil Nadu is an educated state. Tamil Nadu has a high literacy rate. Tamil Nadu is a state renowned for educational attainment. Tamil Nadu has the highest Gross Enrolment Ratio in all of India. The Chief Minister has been conducting event after event, celebrating Tamil Nadu as an educationally excellent state. But in this same Tamil Nadu – we must actually thank Vijay for revealing to the world that such an illiterate mob exists here. What a mob of illiterates! A mob gone completely out of control. An unrestrained, shameless mob. Women saying, ‘I don’t need my husband – I only want Vijay.’ A prostitute mob. Women saying ‘We will marry Vijay anna – even if he is our anna (elder brother), we will still be his anna, we will be his younger sister, we will be his elder sister, we will be his wife’ – such a crowd of prostitutes, a mob of illiterates filled with such fans exists here. For exposing this to the world, we must come and applaud Vijay.”
He further stated, “It is a mob of prostitutes – women who declare, ‘I do not need a husband; I only want Vijay.’ We must commend Vijay for revealing to the world the existence of this mob of ignoramuses, a fan base teeming with prostitutes who claim they will be whatever he desires: a younger sister, an elder sister, or even a wife.”
Ponraj also refused to retract or apologise for the remarks he made.
Vijay, who recently launched his political outfit TVK, has announced that he will contest the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. He has previously stated that the upcoming election would be a direct contest between “thooyasakthi TVK and theeyasakthi DMK.”
