Kalma Classrooms: 37 Reported Cases Of Islamic Imposition In Educational Institutions Across India Since 2017

On 9 January 2026, a video from Azamgarh Public School, located in Rani Ki Sarai in Uttar Pradesh’s Azamgarh district and linked to SP leader Guddu Jamali, went viral on social media.

In the video, a Muslim teacher is seen imparting religious instruction to Nursery and LKG students. Dressed in school uniforms, the children are asked by the teacher, “Who are you?” to which they respond in unison, “Muslim.” She then asks who created the sun, the moon, the sky, and the earth, and the children reply, “Allah Ta’ala.”

In this report, we look at 37 major incidents recorded between 2017 and January 2026 across schools, colleges, and coaching centres, alleging instances where Muslim individuals compelled students to offer namaz, recite the kalma, and wear burqas, hijabs, or white skull caps.

#1 Azamgarh School Video Shows Religious Questioning of Nursery Children – January 2026 – Uttar Pradesh 

A video from Azamgarh Public School in Rani Ki Sarai went viral on social media on 9 January 2026. The footage showed a teacher conducting a religious lesson with nursery and LKG students. In the video, the teacher asked the children, dressed in school uniform, “Who are you?” to which they collectively replied, “Muslim.” She then asked who created the sun, moon, sky, and earth, and the children answered, “Allah Taala.” The teacher further quizzed them on the names of the Prophet’s parents, which the children identified as Bibi Amina and Abdullah. The school is reportedly associated with SP leader Guddu Jamali.

#2 Hindu Physiotherapy Student Pressured to Pray in Hostel – January 2026 – Palghar, Maharashtra

On the night of 4 January 2026, at a private medical college hostel in Wada taluka, an unknown masked female student allegedly pressured a Hindu physiotherapy student to read ‘Namaz’. The victim, a resident of Nashik, reported being stopped on the hostel’s fifth floor and forced to recite Islamic prayers. After the frightened student informed her parents the next day and the college administration did not take immediate action, the family contacted the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP). Hindu organizations subsequently protested at the college, calling it an attempt at conversion and a case of ragging.

#3 Annual Function Protest Over Muslim Attire for Children – December 2025 – Ambala, Haryana

On 29 December 2025, Hindu organizations protested outside Bharatiya Public School in Ambala over its annual function held on December 26. The protest was against a dance performance where Hindu children, dressed in Muslim attire, performed to an Eid-special song containing the phrase “Assalamualaikum.” A video of the performance went viral on social media, leading to the controversy. Demonstrators raised slogans against the school for having Hindu children wear Muslim clothing during the cultural event.

 #4 Rajouri School Accused of Teaching Kalma to Hindu Child – November 2025 – Jammu & Kashmir

A video of a Hindu girl reciting the Kalima (“La Ilaha Illallah”) went viral in November 2025. The girl was a student at the Star Institute School of Education in Pajnara, Kalakote. In response, the VHP and Bajrang Dal held a press conference in Sunderbani on 25 November 2025, alleging the school was imparting religious teachings. The girl’s father, Surjeet Singh, claimed children were being compelled to recite the Islamic declaration of faith and accused the school of starting “Madrasa-like activities.” He also alleged pressure to sign an affidavit to suppress the case.

#5 Namaz Inside College Campus Sparks Protest – November 2025 – Thane, Maharashtra

A controversy arose at Ideal College in Kalyan, Thane, on 21 November 2025, over a video showing some Muslim students offering Namaz inside an empty classroom on campus. The college administration stated the prayer lasted only a few minutes. After the video went viral, activists from the VHP and Bajrang Dal arrived at the college to register their objection, stating that such religious activities were against college rules.

#6 Friday Declared Weekly Holiday at Private School – 30 Oct 2025 – Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh

Juman Islamia English School in Jabalpur declared Friday (Jumme) as its weekly holiday, replacing Sunday, effective 30 October 2025. The school management informed parents via WhatsApp, stating it was implementing the Islamic calendar. This decision, bypassing government norms, led to dissatisfaction among parents. They complained to the district administration and the District Education Officer (DEO), demanding action against the school management.

#7 Alleged Namaz Taught Under Guise of Yoga – 24 October 2025 – Burhanpur, Madhya Pradesh

On 24 October 2025, parents accused teacher Jabir Ahmad Tadvi of teaching Hindu children to offer Namaz under the pretext of teaching yoga exercises at a government school in Devari village. The matter came to light during the Diwali holidays when children replicated the actions at home. Upon questioning by their parents, the children revealed the teacher’s instructions. Approximately two dozen parents then went to the school to protest.

#8 Children Forced to Write ‘I Love Mohammad’ – September 2025 – Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh

At Amar Babu Shiksha Niketan, a private school in Sadarpur, an art competition homework assignment on 27 September 2025, required students to write “I Love Mohammad.” Children reported that their teacher gave this as compulsory homework, threatening punishment for non-compliance. Acting on complaints from parents, Sadarapur police arrested school operator Shaukat Ansari and a teacher.

#9 Student Writes Names of Terror Groups in Exam – September 2025 – Kannur, Kerala

During a mid-term exam on 27 September 2025, at a government school, a Class 9 student wrote the names of international terrorist organizations like Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, Hamas, and Houthi on the first page of his Social Science answer sheet. He also drew weapons. Teachers noted the student began writing on the question paper within 15 minutes of the exam start, instead of focusing on the questions.

#10 Friday Holiday Dispute in Government School – September 2025 – Sitamarhi, Bihar

A dispute over the weekly holiday arose at Aawapur Vidyalaya in Pupri block, where most students are from the Muslim community. The school had long observed Friday as a holiday, but a new principal declared Sunday as the off day. On 13 September 2025, the Block Education Officer (BEO) intervened, held talks with parents and the management, and emphasized that children’s education was the top priority, promising to seek guidance from senior officers on the holiday issue.

#11 Palestine Flag Hoisted at School – September 2025 – Lakhimpur, Uttar Pradesh

On 1 September 2025, at a primary school in Lukaha village, some Muslim students allegedly took down the Indian national flag from the school roof and replaced it with a Palestinian flag. The complainant named individuals—Saddam, Baura, Anne, and an unknown person—who ascended the roof, removed the Tricolour, and threw it away.

#12 Islamic Alphabet Charts Distributed – August 2025 – Raisen, Madhya Pradesh

In early August 2025, Baby Convent School distributed Hindi alphabet chart books to nursery students containing Islamic terms: “K” for Kabaa, “M” for Masjid, and “N” for Namaz, accompanied by related images. A video of the charts went viral, leading to protests by parents and Hindu organizations. The principal, I.A. Quraishi, was accused of distributing the material. The administration initiated an investigation by the Education Department.

#13 Teacher Accused of Forcing Urdu and Threats – August 2025 – Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh

At a government composite school in Harvanshpur Dharam village, teacher Mohammad Salauddin was accused on 3 August 2025, of forcing Hindu students to learn Urdu. Students alleged that if they refused, Muslim students were instigated to beat them. A viral video reportedly showed Salauddin intimidating students and making comments denying the existence of temples and God, such as, “Has anyone seen God?”

#14 Hijab in Independence Day Preparation – July 2025 – Fatehabad, Haryana

During Independence Day preparations on 30 July 2025, at a play school in Bhuna town, a Hindu girl was included in an act simulating Namaz and was asked to have Muslim attire stitched for the performance. Her family raised questions about the clothing and the act, alerting Hindu organizations like VHP and Bajrang Dal. The organizations protested, calling it wrong to impose religious influence on children. The school management called it a cultural activity and apologized.

#15 Hijab Pressure During University Field Trip – July 2025 – Kalaburagi, Karnataka

During an academic field trip for the Central University of Karnataka in July 2025, students alleged that Assistant Professor Abdul Majeed from the History and Archaeology department pressured female students to wear hijabs, especially when visiting Muslim heritage sites like mosques. The Hyderabad-based Legal Rights Protection Forum (LRPF) filed a complaint with the university vice-chancellor on 28 July 2025, citing constitutional violations.

#16 Alleged Burning of Hindu Symbols in School – July 2025 – Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh

On 11 July 2025, at a government secondary school in Nagpura village, teacher Shakeel Mohammad Nagauri allegedly tore and burned pictures of Lord Ganesha, Goddess Saraswati, and Bharat Mata in front of students. He also attempted to burn the national flag. Students and parents accused the teacher of imposing religious extremism, forcing children to read the Quran and worship Allah at a mosque.

#17 Islamic Verses in Morning Assembly – July 2025 – Kota, Rajasthan

A video went viral in July 2025 showing Hindu students being compelled to recite Islamic verses (Kalma) during the morning prayer assembly at Bakshi Springdales School in Kota. The footage led to strong opposition from parents and Hindu organizations, who warned of large-scale protests if action was not taken against the school management.

#18 Ramadan Rituals Alleged in School – June 2025 – Meerut, Uttar Pradesh

At Dehrava Academy School in Mawana area, Hindu parents accused the school on 5 June 2025, of teaching Islamic customs to children during Ramadan. Complainant Ashok Kumar stated that children of other religions were asked to bring white handkerchiefs to participate in religious activities. When his children brought the handkerchiefs the next day, they were encouraged to follow Islamic rituals without proper understanding.

#19 NSS Camp Allegedly Forced Namaz – March 2025 – Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh

During a seven-day NSS camp (March 26 to April 1, 2024) at Guru Ghasidas Central University in Shivtarai, Hindu students alleged that a program officer forced them to read Namaz on the occasion of Eid. Approximately 159 students attended the camp. The students claimed that when they protested, they were threatened with not receiving camp certificates.

#20 Open Namaz at University – March 2025 – Meerut, Uttar Pradesh

On 16 March 2025, IIMT University student Khalid Pradhan was arrested after a video of him offering Namaz in an open area of the campus went viral during Holi celebrations. Following the viral video, Hindu organizations began protesting on campus. The university administration stated the video was uploaded with the intent to disturb communal harmony.

#21 Allegations Against Krishna Veni School – November 2024 – Hyderabad

Krishnaveni School in Asif Nagar was accused in November 2024 of gradually converting into a Madrassa while retaining a Hindu name to confuse parents. The school management and teachers were allegedly promoting Islamic teachings. A video supporting this claim surfaced online.

#22 Hindu Girl Made to Wear Burqa in Play – September 2024 – Sonipat

During a school program at Rajkiya Senior Secondary School in Badoli village, a group of Muslim students performed a play on 15 September 2024. In the play, a Hindu girl was made to wear a hijab and burqa to offer Eid greetings.

#23 Coaching Centre FIR Over Religious Pressure – July 2024 – Delhi

Hindu father Manoj Kumar filed an FIR on July 4, 2024, against three teachers, Rizwan, Absar, and Irfan at the Jai Mata Di coaching center in Subhash Palace. He accused them of pressuring his 13-year-old son to read the Quran and recite the Kalma. The teachers allegedly criticized Hindu beliefs, presented Islam as a powerful religion, and threatened Manoj when he confronted Rizwan.

#24 Anganwadi Accused of Namaz and Eid Rituals – July 2024 – Vadodara, GJ

A case emerged on 15 July 2024, at Karnali Anganwadi in Vadodara where Hindu children were allegedly forced to wear scarves, read Namaz, and celebrate Eid. MLA Shailesh Mehta raised the issue with the state education minister, stating that Anganwadis should remain only educational institutions.

#25 DPS Announces E-Dargah Visit – April 2024 – Gurugram, Haryana

On 10 April 2024, Delhi Public School (DPS) announced an e-dargah visit for students of classes 1 and 2 so they could understand the importance of Eid. The announcement led to controversy.

#26 Hijab and Cap Ordered for Eid – April 2024 – Rewa, MP

Gyansthali Public School in Rewa ordered its students to wear hijab and Islamic skull caps on the occasion of Eid in April 2024. Parents and Hindu organizations strongly opposed the decision. Following the protest, the school principal apologized and withdrew the order.

#27 Hijab and Islamic Songs in School Event – September 2023 – Guna, MP

During Eid-Milad-un-Nabi celebrations at Prince Global School, Hindu girls were allegedly made to wear hijabs and sing Islamic songs like “Madine Wale Se Mera Salam Kehna” on 27 September 2023.

#28 Namaz in Eid Play – June 2023 – Kutch, GK

At Pearl School of Excellence and Value Education near Mundra port, a play for Eid-al-Adha on 30 June 2023, featured Hindu students wearing skull caps and scarves, acting out offering Namaz and greetings. A viral video led to the principal’s suspension.

#29 Kalma Recitation in Assembly – June 2023 – Khandwa, MP

During a Bakrid assembly at St. Pius Missionary School on 28 June 2023, the principal called four Muslim students to the stage to recite the Kalma and offer Namaz. The VHP alleged that while Hindu cultural symbols like tilak and bindi were banned, specific religious prayers were being conducted. VHP workers demanded the school’s license be canceled.

#30 Alleged History Bias in Teaching – June 2023 – Rajkot, GJ

At Yellow Education System, a private school in Jetpur, Muslim teachers were accused on 11 June 2023, of skipping lessons on Hindu kings like Maharana Pratap while glorifying Muslim rulers. A parent also claimed a Class 1 Hindu child started calling his parents “Ammi-Abbu” at home.

#31 Namaz in Eid Celebration – April 2023 – Dehradun, Uttarakhand

During an Eid celebration at a private school in Selakui on 29 April 2023, non-Muslim students were allegedly forced to participate in Islamic activities and offer Namaz. Bajrang Dal and parents protested after a video showed students in a prayer posture. The school removed the videos from social media. A committee was formed to investigate.

#32 World Heritage Day Program Controversy – April 2023 –  Hathras, UP

During a World Heritage Day event at BLS International School on 20 April 2023, Hindu students were allegedly forced to read Namaz and chant “Allahu Akbar.” A viral video led to major protests outside the school, with Hindu organizations demanding purification of the school.

#33 Teacher Offers Namaz During Training – August 2022 – Chhatarpur, MP

A video of a Muslim teacher reading Namaz on the premises of Maharaja Vidyalaya No. 2 went viral in August 2022. The teacher was present for a 5-day training program for district teachers. VHP and Bajrang Dal workers arrived at the school to object.

#34 Friday Holiday for Juma – July 2022 – Dehradun, Uttarakhand

Bright Angel Public School in Vikasnagar instructed through a student’s diary on 21 July 2022, that the school would close at 12 PM every Friday. Parents found the order strange and protested. The school’s manager and principal are MK Hussain and Azra Hussain.

#35 Unauthorised Friday Holidays – July 2022 – Kishanganj, Bihar

District Education Officer Subhash Kumar Gupta alleged on 20 July 2022, that schools in minority areas of the district were observing Friday as a holiday and holding classes on Sunday, following an old tradition, without any official order. At least 19 schools were reportedly following this practice.

#36 FIR Over Eid Dress Video – May 2022 – Prayagraj, UP

An FIR was registered on 4 May 2022, against Bushra Mustafa, the Muslim principal of Nyay Nagar Public School in Jhunsi. She was accused of pressuring Hindu students to make a 20-second video wearing “Eid dress” – Kurta-topi for boys and Salwar-Kurta with dupatta for girls via WhatsApp group messages. Incentives like extra marks and certificates were allegedly offered.

#37 Forced Namaz and Quran in Hostel – July 2017 – Mewat, Haryana

A serious case emerged in July 2017 at Mewat Model School in Nunh Madhi village, where Hindu hostel students were allegedly forced to read the Quran, offer prayers five times a day, and follow Islamic traditions. The mother of two students, Pushpa Bharadwaj, alleged that children were threatened for refusing. With only 3 Hindu students out of 207, all three sought a transfer due to this harassment.
