Sudarshan TV, which is in thick of controversy after it aired a promo of the episode ‘UPSC Jihad’ has told the Supreme Court that their show ‘Bindaas Bol’ broke this news after gaining knowledge through sources that the Zakat Foundation received funding from Islamic groups linked to terror activities.
The Editor-in-Chief Suresh Chavhanke on Thursday (September 17) told the Supreme Court. He further told the court that such debate and discussion are in the national interest and one should look at the source of funding for organizations like Zakat Foundation.
When confronted with targeting Muslims, Chavhanke clarified that in the four-episode series, no statement was made singling out a member of a particular community should not join the UPSC.

The Zakat Foundation had received ₹13,64,694.00 from Madina Trust based in the United Kingdom during the financial year 2018-19. This information was submitted to the Ministry of Home Affairs, however, it must be noted that the UK Madina Trust is known for anti-India activities. (Check link here)
He adds it is a “matter of grave public interest” & “national security”. “Consistent with the national security requirements of our country, there ought to be a public debate and discussion on the source of such funding”. @IndianExpres

After the news broke regarding UPSC Jihad by Sudarshan News, there was an outrage against the broadcast on 28 August. The news channel sought to shed light on the sudden increase in the number of Muslims selected in various posts in administrative and police services in the country.
The outrage against this expose was palpable as Muslim groups went to the court and the Delhi High Court stayed the airing of the show, but the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting gave clearance and Sudarshan News was allowed to broadcast the same.
However, the Supreme Court gave a restraining order on the telecast of the program.
A petition filed by advocate Firoz Iqbal Khan seeking a ban on the broadcast of the show will be heard in the apex court today.
