95 year-old freedom fighter recover from COVID19 in Chennai

VK Chellam, a 95 year old Freedom Fighter who was part of Netaji’s Indian National Army (INA) recovered from COVID-19 and returned home.

Mr. Chellam lives in a joint family in Vyasarpadi with his son Thirunavakarasu.

Mr. Thirunavakarasu was working with the Chennai Corporation involved in COVID relief related activities and was infected by the virus. The 95 year-old along with 8 other members of his family had acquired it from him.

VK Chellam was admitted to Omandurar government hospital on June 5 along with others in the family who were affected. All members of the family have recovered from the disease.

VK Chellam applauded and thanked the doctors, nurses and the state government for the treatment given to him. He also expressed his thanks to the DMK MLA V.G. Rajendran for helping him getting admitted in the hospital. He also personally appreciated the Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami for his efforts against fighting the pandemic.

His son Thirunavakarasu says that the 95-year old Freedom Fighter makes it a point to go walking twice a day (morning and evening) and follows a good diet with fish, chicken, goat, to satisfy his taste buds.

Mr. Chellam is a living example of a healthy body and a healthy and gives hope in times of gloom.

VK Chellam was honoured by President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the meeting of war veterans at Rashtrapathi Bhavan.
