42 Murders In 24 Days: Shocking Crime Surge In Dravidian Model Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin recently informed the Legislative Assembly that the state recorded 1,540 murders in 2024, the lowest annual count in the past 12 years. He credited this decline to the efforts of the police department. While comparing crime statistics, he pointed out that the number of murders in 2012, when the AIADMK was in power, was significantly higher. In response to opposition leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami’s criticism, accusing the DMK of allowing revenge killings to happen unchecked, Stalin took a jab at the AIADMK’s past record.

However, despite the reported decline, the daily crime rate in the state remains concerning. Between February and March 2025, 42 murders were recorded within just 24 days, highlighting a grim reality. A closer look at these crimes reveals a disturbing pattern—revenge killings, attacks on lonely women at home, robberies, and deaths linked to drunken brawls are all on the rise.
