28-Year-Old Woman Raped And Murdered, Body Found In Corn Field In Kallakurichi Village

Even as the atrocious Anna University on-campus sexual harassment case perpetuated by alleged DMK functionary Gnanasekaran, remains fresh in public memory, another shocking incident has occurred where a woman was raped and murdered near Chinnasalem in the Kallakurichi district.

The victim, Nirmala, a 28-year-old woman from a village in Chinnasalem taluka, had already faced tragedy in her life, losing her husband to electrocution four years ago. She had been living with her two young daughters since then.

On 26 December 2024, she visited her home with her children, and later that night, she informed her family that she was heading out to deliver milk at the cooperative society. However, she never returned.

The following morning, a neighbour found her dupatta, mobile phone, and chappals scattered in a nearby field. Further investigation revealed the harrowing truth that the woman had been raped and murdered. The Chinnasalem police have registered a case and begun their inquiry. District Superintendent of Police Rajat Chaturvedi and DSP Devaraj personally inspected the crime scene and are overseeing the investigation.
