Governor Banwarilal Purohit has approved the bill providing for 20% reservation in the TNPSC examination for Tamil medium students which has been lying dormant for many months. With the approval of the Governor, 20% reservation in employment can be availed only if the candidate had been through Tamil medium education till the qualifying exam. It means, if the qualifying exam for Group 1 services is an undergraduate degree, the candidate must have passed class 10, class 12 and undergraduation degree in Tamil.
The State of Persons Studied in Tamil Medium Act, 2010 was enacted during the DMK regime which has been amended now to provide for Persons Studied in Tamil Medium (PSTM) quota in the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) recruitment.
