2 DMK MPs commit crime, 1 sent to judicial remand & another absconding, netizens call out TN media’s silence

In two separate incidents, two leaders of the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu, both of whom are Members of Parliament have been accused of committing serious crime with one of them being sent to judicial remand for murder.

Earlier yesterday (October 11), DMK MP from Cuddalore TRVS Ramesh who has been accused of murdering a 55 year old man surrendered before a court in Panruti after being on the run for several days.

The deceased named Govindaraj who was working at a cashew factory owned by DMK MP Ramesh was found dead a few weeks ago with injuries marked all over his body. He was allegedly thrashed to death by the DMK MP and his men inside the MP’s office room in the factory.

In another incident, S. Gnanathiraviam, the DMK MP from Tirunelveli along with his men carried out a homicidal attack on a BJP worker on 8th October. Bhaskaran, a BJP functionary was was having his dinner at one AVM Hotel in Kavalkinaru near Valliyur when the DMK MP barged in and started attacking him violently. They also broke the CCTV camera in the premises and took it along with them.

However, the mainstream media in Tamil Nadu in both English and Tamil have maintained stoic silence over these two incidents.

DMK-friendly digital news outlets like The News Minute which claims to be the ‘voice of the oppressed’ and torchbearers of human rights have not even published a news item on the abuse of power by Tirunelveli DMK MP.

Netizens and politicians called out the double-standards of such media outlets and lashed out at them for being lapdogs of the DMK.

While the atrocities committed by these two DMK MPs should have been the subject of primetime TV debates, many mainstream and supposedly ‘neutral’ Tamil news channels had a topic completely unrelated topic about the AIADMK.

Many pointed out that had it been a crime where even a normal cadre of the AIADMK or BJP was involved, these media outlets would have pounced on the matter.
