The Thanjavur Corporation has issued a notice to the DMK’s district office, Kalaignar Arivalayam, over unpaid property and sewerage taxes amounting to ₹34.46 lakh. The office, situated on M.K. Moopanar Road and inaugurated by the late party leader M. Karunanidhi on 27 July 2010, is officially registered under the name of Anbazhagan.
According to the corporation, the dues have accumulated from the year of inauguration up to the 2025–26 financial year. The notice instructs that the outstanding amount must be paid at the Corporation’s Tax Collection Centre within 15 days.

In response, the DMK office stated that a formal request had been submitted by former MP S.S. Palanimanickam, urging the corporation to exempt the office from commercial property tax, citing the presence of a public-access library within the premises. They claimed the petition has been submitted on three separate occasions but has received no response. The office assured that if the corporation reclassifies the property and adjusts the tax accordingly, the dues would be settled promptly.
