Chennai College Student With Mental Health Issues Repeatedly Raped For Months; Police Allegedly Let Off Suspects With Warning, 2 Arrested After Fresh Complaint Filed, 5 Absconding

A 15-year-old female student was sexually assaulted by two individuals after they drugged her drink with the assistance of another female named Pratisha Akira at a birthday celebration in Saligramam, Chennai. The incident came to light when the girl complained of stomach pain and revealed the assault to her sibling.

Two individuals have been taken into custody in connection with the sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl in the Saligramam area of Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The purported incident occurred last month during a birthday gathering. The teenager confided in her sister about the attack following her stomach discomfort. Those detained have been recognized as Pratisha Akira and Somesh, while a third suspect, Williams, is currently evading capture. Pratisha is known to be the victim’s acquaintance who allegedly assisted the two men in spiking the victim’s drink on the day of the incident, as per a TOI report.

Pratisha Akira, who works as a junior artist in films, and Somesh, a college student in his twenties, have been apprehended. Williams, who is presently missing, is also believed to be in his twenties. The victim’s family reported the incident to the authorities, mentioning that she befriended Pratisha at a coffee shop in Anna Nagar, leading to a close bond between them. Akira then invited the high school girl to her birthday gathering at an apartment in Saligramam last month. At the gathering, Akira, Somesh, and Williams spiked the girl’s drink with Methamphetamine, causing her to collapse after consuming it. Subsequently, Somesh and Williams allegedly raped her.

Upon awakening the next morning, the girl realized she had been sexually assaulted as per the complaint. Her friend Pratisha also warned her against disclosing the incident to anyone or filing a police report, threatening further harm. Shaken and fearful from the ordeal, the victim remained silent initially. However, after experiencing abdominal pain, she confided in her sister, leading to a medical examination at a hospital and the subsequent report to the authorities. Authorities from Virugambakkam AWPS (All Women Police Station) initiated an investigation upon registering a case, resulting in the arrest of Pratisha and Somesh, who were then remanded in judicial custody.
