A 103-year-old man from Ernakulam in Kerala has recovered from coronavirus infection in 20 days and has been discharged from the hospital. He was identified to be Purakkatt Veettil Pareed, a resident of the Aluva region. He was given a warm send-off by the hospital with a bouquet of roses by the hospital staff.
Pareed had been hospitalised on 28 July after he tested positive for coronavirus. He had not been displaying symptoms at the time of admission. He had been treated by a team of specialist at the Kamalessery Medical College considering his age. Since the old and elderly are more prone to succumbing to the coronavirus infection, his miraculous recovery has been a great source of surprise to medical professionals.
The centenarian was discharged in only 20 days after being admitted to hospital, spelling hopes to hundreds of people who have been admitted all over the country. Earlier, a 105-year-old woman and a couple aged 93 and 88 were among the oldest survivors of the infection in Kerala.
Health Minister KK Shailaja said Pareed’s recovery was a remarkable achievement for the state. “His recovery is a testimony to the dedication of the health workers of the medical college and the quality of care they had given to the patient. I appreciate all those who have been part of the team that treated Pareed,” she said. Meanwhile, Kerala has over 47000 registered coronavirus cases so far. The recorded number of cases on Tuesday alone was 1758.
