From 2011 till date, 1006.33 acres of land worth ₹150 crore have been reclaimed in Tirupur district, said Sevoor S. Ramachandran, the Minister of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE).
The office of the Joint Commissioner of the HR&CE Department was inaugurated on February 8 at the Regulated Sales Hall on Palladam Road in Tirupur district.
Deputy Speaker of Tamil Nadu Assembly Pollachi Jayaraman, HR&CE Commissioner Prabhakaran and Collector K. Vijayakarthikeyan participated in the official function.
Addressing the press after inaugurating the new office, Minister Sevoor Ramachandran said, “An Associate Commissioner’s Zone has been set up with Tirupur as its headquarters, covering Karur and Tirupur districts. Cuddalore, Nagaon, Erode and Thoothukudi Joint Commissioner Zones will also be started.”
“The total number of temples in Tirupur and Karur districts is 2041. There are 2 Joint Commissioners, 30 Executive Officers and 16 Inspectors. There are 753 one-time puja temples. The Annadaanam scheme is being implemented in 43 temples in the Tirupur Joint Commissioner’s Zone. From 2011 to date, ₹15 crore has been spent on 400 temples in Tirupur district and ₹21 crore on 450 temples in Karur district. From 2011 to date, 1006.33 acres of land worth ₹150 crore in Tirupur district, 245.93 acres of land worth ₹25 crore and 19.382 square feet of buildings worth ₹2 crore have been reclaimed”, the Minister further added.
