1 ton of illegal gutka found hidden away at a house in Pudukottai

The local police from Pudukottai confiscated a tonne of Gutka items that had been illegally stored at a house in Pudukkottai last night. The crime prevention intelligence police received a tip-off that Gutka items including Gutka and Pan Masala, which were banned by the Tamil Nadu government, were stored at Abdul Salam’s house near the Thakshina Murthy Market in Pudukkottai.

Based on this, a search of Abdul Salam’s house last night revealed that he had illegally stockpiled 20 tonnes of Gutka items, which were banned by the Tamil Nadu government, in his house.

Following this, the police confiscated them and handed them over to the Pudukottai city police station. However, Abdul Salam, who knew the information, disappeared. The police are looking for him, and have filed an FIR in his name.

It is to be noted that only a month ago, the Grand Bazaar police in Puducherry seized gutka worth ₹10 lakh at a bookstall. Following a similar tipoff, the police had raided the bookstall and found the stolen goods. Upon interrogation, the owner confessed to the crime and also said that he had hidden some more goods at a godown nearby.
