₹10,000 Crore Temple Properties Reportedly Encroached In Krishnagiri, Mafia Role Alleged

Allegations have surfaced in Tamil Nadu’s Krishnagiri district that temple properties worth around ₹10,000 crore have been encroached upon. The claims were raised following an on-site inspection by Radhakrishnan, trustee of the Thiruthondargal Trust, who reviewed lands and assets belonging to several temples in the district.

Addressing reporters after the inspection, Radhakrishnan alleged that certain officials, along with organised mafia groups, were actively working to exploit temple properties using what he described as “scientific and modern methods.” He stated that properties valued at nearly ₹10,000 crore in Krishnagiri alone need to be recovered.

He further described the situation as deeply concerning and said that despite administrative directions issued earlier, effective action had not been taken. According to him, a high-level meeting chaired by the state Chief Secretary in 2021 had directed departments to initiate corrective steps, and the minutes were circulated to concerned officials.

Radhakrishnan added that the Chief Secretary had specifically instructed that the issue be reviewed separately during every jamabandhi (revenue review) process. However, he alleged that these directives had not been implemented so far.
