On Thursday, the Centre inaugurated the ‘Viksit Bharat Initiative for Student Innovation and Outreach Network’ (VISION) portal to nurture education, skill development, and innovation among underprivileged children in India. Reaching out to underprivileged youngsters helps democratise startup skills, said Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Science and Technology Dr Jitendra Singh, while launching the portal in the national Capital on Thursday.

Dr. Jitendra Singh lauded the entrepreneurial vision behind the initiative and its focus on democratising opportunities for students across the country. He emphasised how the portal could be a gateway for those in remote areas to access mentorship and training. “An initiative like VISION provides an opportunity for even the most underprivileged to get a feel of what is happening in the mainland,” the minister remarked, symbolising the broader effort to make the startup ecosystem accessible to all. Citing the success achieved by students from remote areas, often without access to libraries or coaching centres, Dr. Jitendra Singh underscored the role of technology and initiatives like VISION in bridging gaps between urban and rural India.

He also praised the flexibility offered by the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which allows students to combine diverse subjects and pursue unconventional career paths. “This policy ensures that students are no longer prisoners of the subjects their parents chose for them,” he said, pointing out how this freedom can drive innovation and create new opportunities for India’s youth.

The minister also expressed optimism about India’s future as a hub for innovation and entrepreneurship. He stated that initiatives like VISION are integral to realising the country’s aspirations under Vision India 2047, which aims to position India as a global leader in technology, education, and economic growth.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday that India’s “vision for free, open and secure maritime network — be it the Indian Ocean or the Indo-Pacific region — is finding resonance across the world”. In his message for the maiden maritime event — ‘Sagarmanthan, The Ocean’s Dialogue’ being held in the national capital, PM Modi said, “The ‘Indo Pacific Oceans Initiative’ envisions marine resources as a key pillar for growth for nations. This dialogue on oceans further strengthens the rules-based world order and enhances peace, trust and friendship between nations.”

The message sent from the PM’s camp office in Nigeria called for the success of Sagarmanthan to build consensus for partnerships of a prosperous future for humanity. “As we strive to realise the vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047, dialogues such as Sagarmanthan are invaluable to build consensus, partnerships and most importantly, a prosperous future. With the collective efforts of all stakeholders, I am confident that these discussions will resonate far and wide, paving the way toward a brighter, more connected future,” PM Modi said. Highlighting India’s rich maritime legacy and steps to build the sector, the Prime Minister said, “India’s maritime tradition goes back several millennia and is among the richest in the world. The thriving port cities of Lothal and Dholavira, the fleets of the Chola dynasty, and the exploits of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj are great inspirations. Oceans are a shared heritage for nations and societies, as well as the lifeline for international trade.”

“Today, the security and prosperity of nations is intimately connected to oceans. Recognising the potential of oceans, several transformative steps have been taken to bolster India’s maritime capabilities. Over the last decade, guided by the vision of ‘Ports of Prosperity’, ‘Ports for Progress’ and ‘Ports for Productivity’, we have doubled the capacity of our ports. By enhancing port efficiency, reducing turnaround times and strengthening last-mile connectivity through expressways, railways and riverine networks, we have transformed India’s shoreline,” PM Modi said.

Minister for Shipping and Ports Sarbananda Sonowal said, “Under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has been witnessing a transformational experience in the maritime sector. The message by the Prime Minister encapsulates the very essence that this maiden maritime thought leadership forum — Sagarmanthan — aims to achieve.” The two-day event brings together global maritime leaders, policymakers, industry experts and scholars.

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday said that the country is realising the vision Atmanirbhar Bharat under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Sonowal attended the meeting on the Final Master Plan of Dibrugarh – Vision 2045 – by the Dibrugarh Development Authority (DDA) here today.

He said on the occasion: “Under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji, India is moving swiftly towards realising the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat by 2047. Dibrugarh, rich with tremendous potential for economic development, is also working towards becoming a modern, self-sufficient and sustainable urban centre of growth with elevated quality of living.” He said that that Dibrugarh has a rich legacy, it has a rich history, one that needs to be taken into account while we move ahead to reclaim it and build it on the premises of sustainable development. In the future, the premises of the city are likely to reach 391 square kilometres, which will also include water bodies, including rivers.

“Our planning should be meticulous to the point that such gifts of mother nature is respected as we must take all possible steps to protect the environment. The master plan of Dibrugarh should take this aspect into account while working out solutions to ensure sustainable development,” he added. Sonowal stated: “Our city is a beautiful urban dwelling and we must take measures to arrest any possibility of artificial flooding. It is most important that scientific measures must be applied for swift disbursal of any flooding.”

He added that the mother nature has blessed us with a natural bounty and we must take steps to preserve it for our future generations. “Many steps initiated by the Modi government like ‘Waste to Wealth’ or ‘Waste to Energy’ must be roped in to nip the pollution in the bud,” he said. He further said, “Our effort, through this meeting here today, is an attempt to build an argument for a greener, healthier and happier Dibrugarh.”
