Villupuram VCK MP Ravikumar on Wednesday, 19 November 2025, published a detailed post on X expressing alarm over the rise in atrocities against Dalits in Tamil Nadu, calling the newly released National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) 2023 report “shocking” for the State. In his statement, he compared year-on-year data and said Tamil Nadu’s numbers stand out negatively even as neighbouring states have shown declines.

In his post, Ravikumar pointed out that Tamil Nadu recorded 1,921 crimes against Scheduled Caste (SC) persons in 2023, up from 1,377 cases in 2021 and 1,761 cases in 2022. He wrote that this continuous increase contrasts with Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka, all of which reported fewer such crimes in 2023 compared to the previous year.

According to the MP, the most disturbing figures relate to murder and sexual violence. He wrote that 74 Dalits were murdered in Tamil Nadu in 2023, and 135 Dalit women were raped, including 100 minor girls below 18 years of age. He added that Tamil Nadu is among only six states with such high numbers of sexual crimes against minor SC girls.

Ravikumar’s post also noted that 66 caste-related riots occurred in Tamil Nadu in 2023, placing the State among the top four nationally for such incidents.

The MP further criticised what he described as Tamil Nadu’s “high tendency” to dismiss SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act cases as false. According to him, only four states show this pattern, and Tamil Nadu is among them.

He highlighted delays in the judicial process, writing that while charge sheet rates in Atrocities Act cases match national levels, pendency before courts in Tamil Nadu is 37.7%, nearly double the national average of 21.2%. Ravikumar said that the State had 7,912 cases awaiting trial in 2023, including older and newly filed cases.

Citing NCRB numbers, he said courts dismissed 21 cases without investigation, convicted accused persons in only 115 cases, and acquitted 830 individuals in the same period. He emphasised that Tamil Nadu’s conviction rate in SC/ST atrocity cases is 12.2%, far below the national average of 31.9%, and significantly lower than states such as Uttar Pradesh (65.6%), Rajasthan (61.4%), and Bihar (30.1%).

Ravikumar wrote that 172 people were convicted in 2023, while 1,475 were acquitted, and claimed that accused persons in such cases receive bail “very quickly”. NCRB data shows 4,343 people were released on bail last year, while charge sheets were filed against 326 individuals.

Concluding his post, the MP stated that the data demonstrates the Tamil Nadu government has not taken adequate measures to prevent caste atrocities or ensure effective prosecution. He questioned whether the State would now take steps to address what he described as a “dire situation” reflected in national crime statistics.

Aadhav Arjuna, initially known as the son-in-law of businessman Lottery Martin, has in recent years developed a separate political profile as an election strategist. After earlier stints with the DMK and later the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), from which he was expelled following internal disputes, he is now active in actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). The party has appointed him as its General Secretary for Election Campaign Management.

As TVK intensifies preparations for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, party insiders described Aadhav Arjuna as a key figure in the campaign’s organisational structure. However, his long-running conflict with Lottery Martin’s son Charles Martin has resurfaced in public.

In an interview to a private television channel, Charles Martin stated that Aadhav Arjuna, along with John Arokiyasamy, had been sent with the intention of isolating Vijay within his own party and weakening TVK’s prospects.

Charles said some political observers believed the two were planted by the DMK to cause internal disruption. He said that the manner in which Aadhav Arjuna handled a recent interview ended up harming TVK’s public image more than that of the DMK.

Charles also alleged that Aadhav Arjuna initially appeared to be moving towards an alliance framework involving strategist Prashant Kishor but later announced that such an arrangement would not proceed. He suggested that the sudden involvement and withdrawal of Kishor created confusion and raised questions about Aadhav’s political intentions. According to him, such situations required caution, as political conspiracies were common.

Explaining the origins of his dispute with Aadhav Arjuna, Charles said tensions began when Aadhav married into the family and allegedly tried to position himself to control their business interests. He said this created a split between him and his father for two years. He further claimed that Aadhav attempted to create internal frictions within DMK leadership circles before being removed from the party.

Charles alleged that Aadhav Arjuna employed similar methods after joining VCK, where he was also expelled after disagreements with senior leaders. He further said Aadhav was now trying to assert dominance within TVK and that his past behaviour suggested a pattern of using positions of influence for personal advancement rather than ideological commitment.

He claimed Aadhav pursued political posts primarily for authority and financial gain and referred to allegations of attempts to acquire SIPCOT land during Aadhav’s brief stint with the DMK. Charles said such motives raised concerns about the direction in which TVK might move if it relied heavily on Aadhav’s political advice.

Charles Martin said Aadhav Arjuna was now using similar methods within TVK and alleged that his actions posed greater damage to TVK than they did to the DMK. He said that, based on Aadhav’s past conduct, TVK risked being weakened ahead of the 2026 elections.

When asked if Vijay will achieve his goal of becoming Chief Minister and rewrite history, and whether this will be possible under the guidance of Aadhav Arjuna, Martin said, “Honestly, frankly speaking, it’s not such an easy or possible thing. If you look at it, Chiranjeevi was a huge actor, a superstar in Telugu cinema, and he managed to get about 15–16% vote share at the time. Even though he secured that vote share, he still couldn’t form a government. I think he won just four seats—I’m not exactly sure. So, looking at that, even MGR didn’t win power in his first term. There is a step-by-step path for growth; only that process is feasible, not immediate power as some expect. That’s why I say these people are giving the wrong guidance—Aadhav Arjuna and John Arokiyaraj have probably been implanted. There are allegations against some people that they took money. And after taking the money, they have tried to distance and deceive [Vijay] in this field with such intentions, according to some conspiracy theories. Only if we analyse it further, we can tell for sure.”

Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) chief and Lok Sabha MP Thol. Thirumavalavan has publicly praised the Tamil film “Dude,” hailing it as a “slap in the face to the caste society.” However, his endorsement has ignited controversy, with critics accusing the INDI alliance leader of normalizing adultery for the sake of a political message.

In a detailed review of the film, Thirumavalavan said, “Today I got the opportunity to watch the film Dude, which is being successfully run on the screen, produced by Mythri Movie Makers and directed by Keerthiswaran. We saw this film with our left-wing movement’s senior leader Mutharasan. The film has Pradeep Ranganathan and Mamita Baiju in the lead roles. This film, which has made love as its centerpiece, also speaks against honor killing. Love does not need any definition like caste, religion or economy. Keerthiswaran has directed this film with the definition that two minds are enough. There are visuals that attract the viewers from the beginning to the end. The flow of the film creates the expectation of what will happen next. Finally, the expectation of how this will end is increased by the comedy and at the same time, this film is centered on a very important problem that we are facing every day in society.”

He continued, “Keerthiswaran has directed this film magnificently. The fact that he has made this film suitable for this generation reveals his creativity. This film is a testament to the fact that he has also absorbed the psychology of this generation in a good way and has expressed it. He has handled the everyday languages that this generation of the 21st century, which can be called Gen Z kids, can handle and the understanding between friendship and love. Although friendship is different, love is different, friendship is the basis of love. I am used to friendship, I have no feeling, I have zero feeling with you, how can I live with you in such a place, he gives the highest respect to friendship.”

He further added, “He records in the following scenes that friendship is the basis of love. That place where he says, “When you like it, I don’t like it, when I like it, you don’t like it,” comes a dialogue about whether honor greater than life greater than life. When he wants to reunite a woman who rejected him with the lover she loves, he fights for her until the last scene of the film, without thinking of revenge if he betrays her. A new approach, one may question whether it is practical or not, but it is noteworthy that director Keerthiswaran has made this a debate or has highlighted this. The struggle he faces to reunite them, the challenges and crises he faces, the dangers he faces, and the fact that he brings all these into the film, while at the same time creating a comical tone in between, is a testament to the director’s talent.”

He continued, “Pradeep Ranganathan and heroine Mamitha Baiju have transformed themselves into those characters. Other artists have also contributed excellently. In the final scene of the film, where Sarathkumar plays the role of a father, he tries to kill the grandson instead of the daughter, and the reason he gives for not killing the daughter is that I want an heir through you, so I will not kill you. I cannot accept that this grandson was born to someone and that he is the heir to my property. We feel anxious about what will happen when he tries to kill the child. Then he has chest pain and is rushed to the hospital. The line spoken by the protagonist at that point is, “How old are you, 63? How many times have you had this attack? This is the second attack. How long will you be alive? Why do you think so arrogantly? If you feel ashamed, go and die.” That line is a whipping for this casteist society. It is a lesson for the casteist gang that justifies honor killing. Whether it is biological, legal or technical, the line where he says, “This grandson is yours, this child is your grandson, accept this.” Then, the scene where Sarathkumar comes to his senses and accepts the couple and accepts his grandson is a comforting and satisfying scene. How can a message be conveyed through film language – that Keerthivasan has beautifully expressed through this film how a message can be conveyed in a way that is understandable to today’s generation. Pradeep Ranganathan’s performance and the performances of all those who supported him are excellent, as per his expectations. I am proud that this film industry is in their hands now. My congratulations to both of them.”

The film’s plot revolves around Agan, a man who willingly gives up his wife to another man and later pretends to be the father of her child. The story, which would anywhere else be called a moral collapse, is being celebrated by a section of Gen-Z Dravidianists and leftists.

A few days ago, Keerthiswaran spoke to the media over its alleged commercial success. He said, “This film is creating debates. What I feel is this is Tamil Nadu. In this state, many ‘elders’ (periyavunga) have lived. One ‘periyavar’ (referring to anti-Hindu bigot EV Ramasamy Naicker) has also lived. They’ve said so many things. We’re just followers of them and talking about it. In Tamil Nadu, these statements are not new. Many have told this before. We as next-gen are carrying it forward and will continue to talk about it. But it will be conveyed entertainingly within cinema that is accepted by audience in large scale, that’s my wish.”

The Madras High Court on Friday delivered a stinging rebuke to the city police and VCK (Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi) leader Thol. Thirumavalavan over last week’s incident where a lawyer was assaulted near the court premises. The judge sharply questioned the police’s “hostile” action of registering a case against both the victim and the assailants and condemned Thirumavalavan for his role, stating he “seemed to be acting in an inciting manner.”

The controversy stems from an incident where a car carrying VCK President Thirumavalavan allegedly hit a scooter ridden by lawyer Rajiv Gandhi near the Madras High Court. When Gandhi confronted the occupants about the collision, he was allegedly brutally assaulted by men accompanying the VCK leader. A video of the incident went viral, sparking widespread criticism.

Thirumavalavan’s Explanation and Controversial Remarks

In his defense, Thirumavalavan claimed that the scooter rider had intentionally stopped in front of the car to pick a fight. He denied that his party men assaulted the lawyer and alleged a conspiracy by the BJP and RSS behind the entire episode.

However, his subsequent remarks ignited further outrage, he even justified the thrashing by his cadre as he said the motorist glared at him and hence his cadre beat him. Thirumavalavan even said, “And even that, was the hitting done properly.” This statement was widely condemned for its dismissive and provocative tone.

Police Action and Legal Fallout

Following the incident, the Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Bar Council formed a committee to investigate the matter. Meanwhile, the police registered FIRs – against the VCK men under two sections, and surprisingly, against the lawyer, Rajiv Gandhi, under three sections.

This dual FIR prompted another lawyer, K. Balu, to file a petition in the High Court. Balu, who had also faced threats from a Cuddalore lawyer using obscene language in connection with this case, sought police protection and action against those threatening him.

Lopsided FIR and Legal Fallout

The Esplanade police registered cases after a 10-day delay based on complaints from both sides. However, the FIRs showed a stark contrast.

In the complaint filed by the assaulted lawyer, Rajiv Gandhi, which mentioned that Thirumavalavan “incited” the attack, a case was registered against the assailants under only two sections: using obscene language and attacking with intent to cause injury. Thirumavalavan’s name was omitted.

In the complaint filed by VCK advocate Parvendan, the police registered a case against Rajiv Gandhi under three more severe sections: obstructing a person with wrongful intent, threatening, and intentionally insulting with intent to disturb the peace.

Lawyer Rajiv Gandhi’s side has questioned the police’s basis for including the “threatening” section, as the VCK advocate’s complaint allegedly contained no mention of any threats.

High Court’s Scathing Observations and Questions

During the hearing of these petitions, Justice Satish Kumar did not mince words. The court raised several pointed questions to the police:

“On what basis is the case filed against both parties?” the judge asked, expressing astonishment at how a case was registered against the lawyer who was the victim of the attack. He further asked, “But on what basis was an FIR registered against both parties? … when only one party had joined in attacking a lawyer?”

The judge was deeply critical of the police’s inaction, questioning what the police personnel present at the scene were doing during the attack and opining that he “believed the police were silent on the matter.”

In a major condemnation of the VCK leader’s conduct, Justice Satish Kumar observed, “The leader who was present there, instead of controlling the situation, seems to have acted in a manner that provoked the problem.” The court recorded its “strong condemnation that his speech in a way that could encourage violence is condemnable.”

The judge noted the profundity of the incident, stating, “Such a terrible act had taken place in the High Court premises… This incident was recorded in all CCTVs. However, it is very sad that the police have only registered a case and have not taken any action so far. What were the police personnel present at the spot doing when the attack was taking place?”

He was unequivocal in his assessment of the police’s dual FIR, calling it “hostile that the police is pursuing this case against both the victim and the attacker,” and pointedly asked, “To satisfy whom has the police taken this action?”

Court’s Directives

The High Court has issued firm directives to the police – to seize the CCTV footage of the entire incident, to conduct a thorough investigation based on this evidence, and to submit a report on the action taken against the perpetrators of the attack.

The court’s strong remarks have put the police investigation and the conduct of the political leader under the spotlight. The matter has been adjourned for further hearing.

In a move that has drawn sharp condemnation from the Madras High Court, the Tamil Nadu police under the Dravidian model government have registered a criminal case against a lawyer who was brutally assaulted by VCK leader Thol. Thirumavalavan’s supporters, while treating his attackers with surprising leniency.

The incident, which occurred on October 7 outside the Madras High Court, began when Thirumavalavan’s car collided with lawyer Rajiv Gandhi’s two-wheeler on NSC Bose Road. When Gandhi confronted the occupants about the collision, he was violently attacked by men accompanying the VCK leader, with the entire assault captured on video and later going viral.

Victim-Turned-Accused: The Lopsided FIR

In a controversial response, the Esplanade police registered two FIRs that show stark disparity in treatment. Against lawyer Rajiv Gandhi – the assault victim – police invoked three serious sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS): wrongful restraint, criminal intimidation, and intimidation with intent to breach peace.

Meanwhile, against the men who were seen on video brutally attacking Gandhi, police registered a case under only two comparatively minor sections: causing hurt and using obscene language. Notably, Thirumavalavan’s name was completely omitted from the FIR despite the victim’s complaint specifically mentioning that the VCK leader “incited” the attack.

High Court’s Stinging Rebuke

The police action prompted a stinging rebuke from the Madras High Court, with Justice Satish Kumar delivering scathing observations during a hearing on Friday.

“On what basis is the case filed against both parties?” the judge questioned, expressing astonishment that the assault victim had been made an accused. He further asked, “when only one party had joined in attacking a lawyer?”

Justice Kumar was unequivocal in his assessment, calling the police action “hostile that the police is pursuing this case against both the victim and the attacker,” and pointedly demanding, “To satisfy whom has the police taken this action?”

The judge also condemned Thirumavalavan’s role, observing that “the leader who was present there, instead of controlling the situation, seems to have acted in a manner that provoked the problem.”

Political Fallout and Controversial Justification

The incident has sparked political repercussions, with CPM state secretary P Shanmugam expressing concern over caste-based divisions among lawyers in Tamil Nadu. He emphasized that “developments undermining the unity of the legal fraternity must be avoided at all costs.”

Meanwhile, Thirumavalavan’s response to the incident has drawn widespread condemnation. The VCK leader not only denied his party men assaulted the lawyer but allegedly justified the beating by saying the motorist “glared at him.” In a remark that sparked particular outrage, Thirumavalavan reportedly added, “And even that, was the hitting done properly.”

The High Court has now directed police to seize all CCTV footage of the incident and conduct a thorough investigation, adjourning the matter for two weeks. The case has put both the police investigation and the conduct of the political leader under intense judicial scrutiny, raising serious questions about the impartiality of law enforcement in the state.

A video circulating on social media shows a man identified as “Madurai Siruthai Kani” making explicit threats against BJP leaders and workers ahead of Deepavali, prompting BJP supporters to file complaints and demand police action.

In the video, which has been widely shared online, the speaker, described as a VCK (Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi) cadre warns BJP members that they will be prevented from holding political activity or moving freely in parts of Madurai. “Whenever you go asking for votes, you have to come to our street… There is no town where there is no panther (siruthai). Wherever he runs to, we will block him. Wherever his car goes, we have to stop/block him,” the man is heard saying. He also taunted BJP leader K. Annamalai, saying, “Hey Annamalai, no BJP member can walk in a dhoti in Madurai… If you go in your vehicle anywhere, we will stop it.”

In the video, he is heard saying “Hey BJP people, understand one thing clearly. Whenever you go asking for votes, you have to come to our street only. In each district, village, there will be atleast one panther (siruthai) and if he doesn’t slipper you, hey Annamalai, no BJP member can walk with his dhoti in Madurai. You have opposed our party and leader, now you cannot do politics anywhere, you hear that. If you go in your vehicle anywhere, we will stop it. Hey there is no town where there is no panther, there is no place where you can’t find a panther. You cannot enter anywhere from now. Wherever Modi comes, we must block him. Wherever Modi’s car goes, we have to stop/block him. Only then he will know about us. Very easily he says, why does your leader need Z+ security? Hey fools, to protect the people and in order for you to celebrate Deepavali peacefully, our leader has to be free, only then you can celebrate Deepavali. Otherwise, none of you will be able to move around,” he said, using threatening language that BJP supporters called intimidation of the public and a direct threat to national and state leaders who visit the city.

Reacting to the clip, BJP members in Madurai lodged complaints with the police. A complaint was reportedly filed by BJP lawyer Niranjan Kumar; another complaint was submitted on behalf of Guru Ramesh, the party’s Madurai metropolitan district president. Party sources say the complaints allege public threats and defamation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former state BJP president K. Annamalai.

Madurai police have acknowledged receipt of complaints and, according to the report, the city Commissioner assured complainants that appropriate action would be taken. Local BJP leaders said they expected swift investigation and possible legal steps against the individual identified in the video.

The episode adds to mounting tensions between the VCK and the BJP in the region. It is noteworthy that Annamalai publicly criticised VCK leader Thirumavalavan over the incident involving an alleged assault in a hit-and-run case, saying the latest video reflects an escalation in aggressive rhetoric.

The post “Is He A Political Leader Or Gang Leader?”: BJP Leader Asuvathaman Slams VCK Chief Thirumavalavan For Justifying Violence Against A Lawyer appeared first on The Commune.

In a fiery statement to reporters, Asuvathaman strongly condemned the recent attack on a lawyer allegedly linked to members of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), calling it a “grievous, terrible assault” and an attempted murder. He criticized VCK leader Thirumavalavan for allegedly inciting violence and guiding members of the Scheduled Communities toward criminal acts, while questioning the role of the Tamil Nadu Police and the Bar Council in ensuring security and justice. Asuvathaman urged the community to elect leaders who prioritize education, employment, and lawful guidance over violence, emphasizing the need for accountability and protective action by legal authorities.

Speaking to reporters, Asuvathaman said, “Where is Tamil Nadu going? Apparently, they didn’t hit him properly. Should they have murdered him? He is still in the hospital; He has been in the hospital for a week and hasn’t recovered or come out yet. It was a grievous, terrible assault, an attempted murder, an attack suitable for filing an attempted murder case. But Thirumavalavan, in turn, says, “They didn’t hit him properly, they just patted him four times”. Is this the speech of a political leader or the speech of a gang leader? Thirumavalavan is perpetrating a cruelty where he is leading a majority community toward crime, preventing them from accessing education and employment, causing them to accumulate many cases, and transforming them into a criminal society. At this time, I make a request to the great people of the Scheduled Communities: You must elect a good leader. You must reject Thirumavalavan. You need a good leader who provides education and guides you to employment, like Ambedkar, a good leader is needed, not a leader who says, “Go get an FIR, if he stares at me, go hit him, throw him down and stomp on him”. The society and the people, the Tamil society people, and the Scheduled Community people must all think about this. The question Tamil Nadu people are asking today is: If a lawyer himself can be attacked by VCK goons in the High Court campus, then which section of the people in Tamil Nadu has security today? What are the Tamil Nadu Police doing? If the DMK comes back to power, which section of the people will have security? So, will the VCK person barge into anyone’s house anywhere? Will they beat anyone they want, and you must remain silent? About two weeks ago, Airport Moorthy was attacked in front of the DGP office. When Airport Moorthy retaliated, the VCK people ran away with their feet hitting their backsides; they fell down and ran, as you might have seen on television. Rajiv Gandhi was alone, if he had 10 people with him, they wouldn’t have attacked him; they would have walked away silently. As soon as they saw he was alone, they hit him because he stared at them. What kind of mindset is this? What bravery is there in 20 people joining together to beat one person? Thirumavalavan is speaking about this in the Chengalpattu meeting as if it were a great act of valor.”

When asked about an FIR not being filed by the police, he said, “A huge question arises: Is the Bar Council an organization for lawyers or an organization for politics? Lawyers are complaining that the Bar Council often acts without properly investigating complaints, even unnecessary ones, filed against lawyers. At this time, when there is an attack on a lawyer, the Bar Council should be a protection for lawyers. Furthermore, regarding your institution, sir, a brawl has taken place there. Should an FIR be filed or not? Your institution should investigate the truth and you, go and complain to the DGP to take action. Officially, your official complaint hasn’t come yet. If the Bar Council hasn’t even filed a single complaint seven days after the incident, then for whom is the Bar Council? Is it for lawyers, or is it acting against lawyers? This question arises, doesn’t it? Therefore, the Bar Council must immediately file a case complaint with the Tamil Nadu Police regarding this and emphasize that action must be taken after filing the complaint. Furthermore, that entire area—the Chennai High Court campus—they wrap it up by calling it the Bar Council campus. Technically, the Bar Council campus is the High Court campus. Administratively, whose control does it come under? The Registrar’s control, right? The Registrar General—they, the High Court, should take serious action in this matter. The High Court should summon the police and question them, asking, “A major brawl has occurred inside my campus, a very grievous assault has taken place. What action have you taken?”. The High Court must ask the DGP of the Police. That is the legal justice, and I emphasize that at this time.”

A group of lawyers staged a protest and road blockade outside the Madras High Court on 13 October 2025, demanding justice for an advocate allegedly assaulted during an encounter involving VCK (Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi) MP Thol Thirumavalavan. The protest was organized after claims that the police have not registered a case or provided CCTV footage related to the incident, raising concerns over police inaction.

During the protest, a lawyer addressing the crowd alleged that the Tamil Nadu government “has the police in its hands,” and that lawyers across the state will continue their struggle until justice is delivered for the affected advocate, Rajiv Gandhi. The speaker also cited a prior incident at the DGP office where the police reportedly mishandled evidence, emphasizing the lack of relief for victims in such cases.

The protesters urged Tamil Nadu lawyers to boycott the upcoming Bar Council elections, questioning the role of the Bar Council as a representative forum for lawyers. They argued that lawyers face repeated attacks across courts in Tamil Nadu and India, with little protection even from institutions meant to safeguard them.

The lawyer described the alleged assault on Rajiv Gandhi, claiming he was beaten while sitting in his car and that the incident was witnessed by Thirumavalavan, who had earlier expressed anger at similar incidents involving judges. The protestors condemned the MP’s speech, alleging it incited violence and was inappropriate for someone in Parliament.

The Lawyers’ Social Justice Council expressed strong regret and condemnation over the MP’s remarks, calling for accountability. Bar Council member K. Balu also demanded that authorities take appropriate action against Thirumavalavan. The protest highlights ongoing tensions between lawyers and political figures in Tamil Nadu.

In a fiery attack laced with sarcasm and political barbs, Tamil Nadu BJP president K. Annamalai launched a blistering critique of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) chief Thol. Thirumavalavan, accusing him of engaging in violent, caste-driven, and hypocritical politics.

Speaking to reporters in Madurai, Annamalai mocked Thirumavalavan’s recent aggressive public statements and challenged him to display his “bravery” at the India-Pakistan border instead of intimidating ordinary citizens in Tamil Nadu. He also questioned the VCK leader’s commitment to free speech, alleging that Thirumavalavan disables comments on his social media posts while claiming to champion freedom of expression.

The BJP leader further urged the Tamil Nadu government to conduct a full inquiry into the alleged attack incident involving VCK members, adding that if the probe clears him of involvement, Thirumavalavan should resign from politics altogether.

Speaking to the press, he said, “Some political party members, some leaders, get onto the stage and say that if someone merely glares, they should be hit four times. Today, Thirumavalavan and those accompanying him should be sent to the India-Pakistan border, because the Pakistani is constantly glaring; he needs to be hit four times. Therefore, if they start hitting everyone who glares, there will be no place for Thirumavalavan in Tamil Nadu. If he goes to the India-Pakistan border and that Pakistani glares, will he hit him twice? They won’t show bravery there. Instead, they target innocent people, someone like you or me on a scooter—the so-called middle class—they will come. A crowd of 100 people will go with Thirumavalavan. If someone is a leader, he should have set an example as a role model.”

He added, “He should have got out of the vehicle and stopped it, and questioned what happened. This happened fully for about two to two and a half minutes. A journalist films this. A private television channel broadcasts it. After it is shown on the private television channel, I post it on my X platform. Thirumavalavan became suspicious. He suspected that Annamalai was behind it and organized it. I don’t know what to call this. This is how Tamil Nadu’s politics is cursed. Such leaders are doing politics here. They use caste, atrocities, oppression, and violence to intimidate people. Go and look at Thirumavalavan’s X profile today; no one can comment. If I, a political leader, post an opinion on the X platform, you and I have the right to comment. If you oppose my opinion, you can gladly comment on it. If you support my opinion, you can comment. But if you look at Thirumavalavan, he will post on X, but the comment section is disabled.

This means you must only read his opinion. You should not post against or in support of that opinion. Such people talk about freedom of expression while criticizing Modiji and the Bharatiya Janata Party. I haven’t seen anything more shameful than this. Two unemployed people go to the Commissioner’s office and file a complaint against me. Immediately, the narrative is that RSS and Sangh Parivar are behind it. Thirumavalavan’s favorite thing is that if the sun is a little too hot and severe in Tamil Nadu, the RSS is involved. If the sun is delayed in rising correctly, the RSS is involved. If there is heavy rain, the RSS is involved. If there is low rain, the RSS is involved. Therefore, thinking that Thirumavalavan’s politics has descended to such a low level is very saddening.”

“I haven’t been able to see the news for three or four days. Since I am seeing it today, I am registering this opinion. Therefore, the Tamil Nadu Government must fully investigate this. They must check if Thirumavalavan was deliberately attacked by anyone. Let them also include my name in the investigation. If it is proven that no such attack was carried out, then Thirumavalavan must step aside from politics. He must stop this uncivilized, threatening, and violent political activity, and stop the practice of blaming the RSS, BJP, and Annamalai to escape after committing a mistake. Once the Tamil Nadu government investigates this and it is confirmed that this was conducted by Thirumavalavan and his party workers, I, the RSS, or the BJP will not be involved. After that confirmation, the question I am asking Thirumavalavan through the press friends in Madurai city is whether he will step out of politics. I felt these two issues were important points to discuss with you today,” Annamalai said.

After calling it a BJP-RSS conspiracy and justifying the thrashing of a motorist by VCK goons, the party chief, Thirumavalavan’s lies have been busted by Polimer News.

New video footage and conflicting statements have cast serious doubts on the version of events presented by Thirumavalavan and his party.

According to reports, the incident occurred when Rajiv Gandhi, travelling on a scooter, allegedly bumped from behind by a car that turned out to be Thirumavalavan’s vehicle causing the motorist to stop the vehicle and question the driving. He was subsequently assaulted by a group of VCK goons. The lawyer’s scooter was also damaged in the scuffle.

Contradictions Begin: From Police Complaint to Public Denial

Initially, a VCK lawyer named Parvendan filed a written complaint at the Esplanade Police Station, claiming that Rajiv Gandhi’s scooter had collided with Thirumavalavan’s car and triggered an argument. However, following this, Thirumavalavan released a video denying that any collision had occurred. In his statement, he said there was no contact between his vehicle and the scooter, calling reports of an accident “blatant false information.”

Contradictions deepened when fresh video footage surfaced showing Rajiv Gandhi stopping his scooter and appearing to speak calmly to the car’s driver – contradicting the VCK’s claim that he acted provocatively. The video also captured a group of VCK supporters chasing and attacking the lawyer moments later.

The Attack: Conflicting Justifications

While the VCK, in its official communications, denied attacking Rajiv Gandhi and claimed they only “pushed him away,” Thirumavalavan’s subsequent public speeches told a different story. Speaking in Thiruporur, the leader shocked observers by justifying the actions of his party members. He stated they “lightly knocked” on the motorist because he “stared” at him, adding that the advocate was “beaten for his misconduct” and for being “arrogant.”

This stands in sharp contrast to video evidence cited by Polimer News, which shows that advocate Gandhi, after stopping his scooter, merely looked back at the car’s driver and said something, without any overtly aggressive physical movement towards the leader’s vehicle.

Polimer News Timeline Debunks “Political Conspiracy” Allegation

In a major revelation, Polimer News presented a detailed timeline that dismantles the VCK’s allegation of a pre-planned political conspiracy. The VCK had filed a complaint pointing out that news of the incident was uploaded on Polimer TV just four minutes after the alleged time of the car-scooter problem (2:34 PM), calling it the “height of lies.”

Polimer’s investigation, however, provides a clear sequence of events.

A lawyer who witnessed the incident captured the footage on his cell phone and posted it on social media. This video was acquired by a Polimer News reporter at 3:14 PM. The reporter verified the authenticity of the incident and sent it to the news office. Polimer TV aired the verified report as breaking news at 3:29 PM.

This timeline demonstrates that the news report was broadcast based on genuine, eyewitness footage acquired and verified through standard journalistic practice, not as part of any orchestrated plot.

Dashboard Camera Evidence and a Conditional Apology

As public scrutiny intensified, a crucial piece of evidence emerged: the dashboard camera footage from a prominent person’s car that was present at the scene. Social media users and various parties have asserted that this video clearly shows Thirumavalavan’s car making contact with Rajiv Gandhi’s scooter.

This visual evidence directly challenges Thirumavalavan’s repeated denials of any collision. Faced with this, during an interview at Trichy Airport, the VCK leader shifted his stance, saying he is “ready to apologize if the car hit him,” while still maintaining that a “false impression” is being spread.

Thirumavalavan’s attempts to downplay the violence have also drawn criticism. He gave a general explanation that his phrase “Don’t hold back” was a political statement and not an incitement to violence.

Critics, including political rivals like Annamalai, have condemned the actions, calling for a full investigation. Furthermore, the Chennai Journalists’ Association and the South Indian Journalists’ Union have condemned Thirumavalavan’s actions following reports that Polimer News journalists were threatened over the phone and a police complaint was filed against them for their reporting.
