Special forces of India and the United States of America carried out a joint military exercise at Bakloh in Himachal Pradesh this month to further enhance interoperability between the two sides, the defence ministry said on Tuesday via a press release.

This was the eleventh such exercise, which has been dubbed ”Vajra Prahar”. The military exercise is aimed at sharing best practices and experiences in areas such as joint mission planning and operational tactics.

“The 11th edition of Indo-US joint special forces exercise Vajra Prahar 2021 was conducted at Special Forces training school located at Bakloh, in Himachal Pradesh in March,” the defence ministry’s press release stated.

It said that the exercise was aimed at improving interoperability between the special forces of the two countries.

The ministry, in its statement, said bilateral military exercises and defence exchanges are an important facet of deepening bilateral defence cooperation between friendly countries.

“During such events, the armies of participating nations jointly train, plan and execute a series of operations for neutralisation of threats of varied nature with a common aim of countering threats of international terrorism through mutual training and jointness,” it said.

India and the US also carried out a two-day naval exercise in the eastern Indian Ocean Region on March 28 ad 29.

The Indian Navy deployed its warship Shivalik and long-range maritime patrol aircraft P8I in the ”PASSEX” exercise while the US Navy was represented by USS Theodore Rosevelt carrier strike group.

India and the United States continue to strengthen bilateral partnership and engagement as the armies of the two nations will be holding important combat exercise in Rajasthan’s Mahajan Field Firing ranges from 8-21 February, reports Times of India.

Called “Yudh Abhyas”, it will be the first such engagement between India and the US since President Joseph Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris took over.

The US Army has sent a contingent that would include a brigade headquarters and a battalion group of around 250 soldiers from its Stryker Brigade Combat Team. Meanwhile, India will also be fielding an infantry brigade headquarters and a battalion group from the Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Light Infantry.

The exercise is aimed to further the interoperability in counter-terrorism operations in semi-urban, semi-desert terrain, along with attack helicopters and infantry combat vehicles.

India will also be holding another important military exercise called “Vajra Prahar” land combat exercise between Indian and US special security forces in March. India for a long time has been working towards establishing a special forces command like the American Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC).
