Tiruvallur has been in the news for all the wrong reasons, in the past few months. Right from drug busts to ganja-addicted youths brutally assaulting a migrant worker, Tiruvallur is turning into a drugs-driven crime hotspot under the Dravidian Model DMK government.

Reports show Tiruvallur is a critical “gateway” district for ganja and synthetic drugs entering Chennai from Andhra Pradesh and other states; in 2022 alone, Tiruvallur police seized about 1,263 kg of ganja, more than double the 590 kg seized in 2021, as part of Tamil Nadu’s record overall seizures that year. Reports state that as ganja supply chains were hit, traffickers increasingly shifted to pharmaceutical and synthetic drugs like methamphetamine, using Tiruvallur’s highways and migrant corridors as transit routes into Chennai.

In this report, we take a look at all the law-and-order related incidents that occurred in Tiruvallur along with the drug busts in the district.

Law & Order Incidents

#1 Schoolgirls Harassed By Intoxicated Youths At Bus Stop In Tiruvallur – February 2026

A group of 13 Class 12 girls in Tiruvallur were harassed and assaulted by youths allegedly under the influence of ganja on 3 February 2026. The verbal abuse turned physical, with the accused’s parents also reportedly blaming the victims. Traumatized, the students blocked the Chennai-Tirupati Highway in protest, demanding security and justice. They further alleged police bias during the inquiry at Kanakamma Chathiram station, where one accused was arrested and another is absconding. A student described ongoing harassment, stating, “He can’t even stand properly… Stones were thrown. One girl’s leg was badly injured.”

#2 Intoxicated Youths Attack College Students in Tiruttani – January 2026

Two college students travelling home on a motorcycle were allegedly attacked by intoxicated youths armed with a machete. The incident occurred when the students were on their way home, police said. The injured students were taken to hospital for treatment. Preliminary inquiry confirmed that the attackers were intoxicated.

#3 Double Murder Over Road Rage Shocks Tiruvallur – January 2026

Tiruvallur witnessed a shocking double murder after two youths were beaten to death with stones following a road rage altercation in Manavalanagar. The victims were Parthiban (32), a private bank employee from Ondikuppam, and Sukumar (31). After returning from Andhra Pradesh post-Pongal celebrations, Parthiban and his friends questioned two bikers for rash driving near the Poonamallee–Tiruvallur Highway around 7 pm. The argument escalated later that night when the bikers returned with associates and attacked them. Parthiban died on the spot, while Sukumar succumbed to injuries at hospital. Police said intoxication, ganja or alcohol, would be confirmed after medical reports.

#4 Ganja-Fuelled Rampage at Irular Colony in Tiruvallur Leaves Man Critically Injured – January 2026

In a separate incident, a gang of six youths allegedly under the influence of ganja vandalised houses, street taps, and streetlights at an Irular colony in Thazhavedu near Tiruttani. They reportedly abused women residents using obscene language and attacked a 50-year-old man, Ramasamy, with an iron rod when he questioned them. Ramasamy was initially admitted to the Tiruttani Government Hospital and later referred to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in Chennai for advanced treatment.

#5 Migrant Worker Attacked Gruesomely By Ganja-Addicted School Dropouts In Tiruttani – December 2025

Tiruttani Town police on Sunday, 28 December 2025, detained four 17-year-old boys for attacking a 20-year-old youth from Odisha, identified as K Suraj, with sickles near the Old Railway Quarters. Police said the assault stemmed from a drunken argument on a Chennai–Tiruttani EMU local and was filmed by one juvenile to post as an Instagram reel. The minors allegedly carried sickles in their bags to record such videos. After following Suraj off the train at Tiruttani, they took him to an abandoned area, where three attacked him while the fourth recorded the act. Suraj, who suffered serious injuries, is reportedly stable. The juveniles were sent to an Observation Home while one was allowed to go on bail.

Bystanders intervened and alerted police, who rushed him to the Tiruttani Government Hospital, where his condition remained serious. Police registered a case and were probing whether the attackers were under intoxication.

#7 Ganja-Fuelled Murder Suspected in Tiruvallur – March 2025

A 19-year-old youth was brutally hacked to death and his body dumped near bushes at Thiruvalangadu in Tiruvallur district on Friday, with police suspecting ganja abuse as a key factor behind the crime. The victim, identified as Lokesh of Poondi village, was found with deep cut injuries on his head, hands, and legs. Police said Lokesh had earlier clashed with a group of youths over ganja-related issues. He had gone missing on Thursday night after visiting his grandmother in Narthavada. Investigators believe the assailants were under the influence of drugs at the time of the attack.

Drug Busts In Tiruvallur

Tiruvallur police, tasked with preventing drug inflow from Andhra Pradesh, have regularly intercepted ganja consignments on two‑wheelers and trucks, contributing significantly to the state’s 26,000‑kg ganja seizure figure in 2022.

Acting on a tip-off received by Vivekananda Shukla, a police team conducted a vehicle check on Karkuvel Street late Monday night, according to a Daily Thanthi report. During the operation, five individuals standing suspiciously were detained and questioned, following which police seized 2,006 narcotic pills from them. The accused were identified as Premkumar (37), Srinivasan (32), Vignesh (24), Gowtham (24), and Veera (32).

#6 Interstate Drug Cartel Busted in Tiruvallur; 13 Arrested Including Foreign Nationals – November 2025

The Tiruvallur District Police dismantled an interstate synthetic drug cartel, arresting over a dozen suspects, including foreign nationals from Nigeria, DR Congo, and Senegal. The operation began on October 14 with the arrest of two men in Manavalanagar with 55 grams of methamphetamine, leading to multiple NDPS cases. Investigations revealed a Delhi-based kingpin operating via WhatsApp, using bank accounts across eastern and northeastern states and GPS-based drug drops in Chennai and Bengaluru. The alleged kingpin, Bende, was arrested in Noida with multiple phones containing supply-chain data.

#7 Two More Held With Meth in Tiruvallur Drug Probe; Arrest Count Rises to 10 – November 2025

The Tiruvallur District Police arrested two more persons in connection with an interstate drug trafficking case and seized 75 grams of methamphetamine from them near the Chennai–Bengaluru highway. The accused were identified as Prathap (27) of Tirupattur and Mohammad Afrath (23) of Kanyakumari. The arrests follow the November 8 detention of Bende, a 43-year-old Senegal national alleged to be the kingpin, who was tracked for 10 days and arrested in Delhi with multiple mobile phones containing interstate drug route details. The probe began with meth seizures by Manavalanagar police and later led to the arrest of Chennai-based influencer Sibiraj (22).

#8 Seven Arrested After 400 Narcotic Pills Seized from House in Tiruvallur – November 2025

Police in Tiruvallur district have seized 400 narcotic pills that were stashed inside a house in Puzhal and arrested seven persons, including a woman, in connection with the case. The action followed a complaint from a college student who was admitted to Stanley Government Hospital and later shifted to a private hospital after suffering health complications. The student told police that a friend had dissolved narcotic pills and injected the substance into him using a syringe. Based on the complaint, police registered a case and conducted a search, leading to the recovery of the pills from a nearby house.

#8 Tiruvallur Police Step Up Crackdown on Synthetic Drug Networks – December 2025

The Tiruvallur District Police intensified their drive against synthetic drug trafficking. Superintendent of Police Vivekananda Shukla said sustained operations have led to the arrest of nearly two dozen accused so far. Police have seized about 373 grams of methamphetamine, 48 MDMA tablets weighing 30 grams, and 2.8 grams of cocaine. In the latest operation, five men were arrested near Gummidipoondi with 56 grams of meth and eight MDMA tablets. Police said the accused were part of an inter-State cartel sourcing drugs from Bengaluru.

Drug Hotspot Tiruvallur

The pattern that emerges from these incidents is unmistakable: Under the Dravidian Model governance, Tiruvallur is no longer dealing with sporadic crime, but a sustained breakdown driven by narcotics infiltration and weak deterrence. From ganja-fuelled street violence and attacks on migrant workers to repeated large-scale seizures of ganja, meth, and synthetic pills, the district has become both a transit hub and a consumption zone.

Enforcement actions, though frequent and sometimes successful, appear reactive rather than preventative, failing to stem the flow or protect vulnerable communities. What is unfolding in Tiruvallur is not an isolated law-and-order problem but a systemic failure of the ruling DMK government.

Tiruvallur witnessed a shocking double murder after two youths, including a bank employee, were beaten to death with stones by a gang allegedly under the influence of ganja, triggering widespread outrage in the district.

The victims were identified as Parthiban (32), a resident of Ondikuppam in Manavalanagar and an employee of a private bank in Sevvapet, and Sukumar (31). Parthiban had travelled to Andhra Pradesh along with his friends Kesavamoorthy (25) and Sukumar to celebrate the Pongal festival and returned to Tiruvallur on the evening of the incident.

Around 7:00 pm, the three friends were standing near a bakery on the Poonamallee–Tiruvallur Highway in Manavalanagar, when two men on a motorcycle allegedly sped towards them in a reckless manner. When Parthiban and his friends questioned the riders about their dangerous driving, an argument broke out, which briefly escalated into a scuffle. The bikers then left the spot.

Later, after dinner at a nearby hotel, the trio came out around 10:30 pm, when the same two men returned along with two more associates. The four allegedly picked up stones and launched a sudden and brutal attack on Parthiban, Sukumar, and Kesavamoorthy. Parthiban sustained severe head injuries and died on the spot. Sukumar and Kesavamoorthy were left critically injured.

The attackers fled the scene, while bystanders rushed the injured men to the Tiruvallur Government Medical College Hospital. Sukumar succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, while Kesavamoorthy remains in a critical condition and is undergoing treatment.

Parthiban is survived by his wife and a two-year-old child. Sukumar’s wife is reportedly eight months pregnant. The incident has plunged the local community into deep grief and anger.

Manavalanagar police rushed to the spot, recovered Parthiban’s body, and sent it for post-mortem examination. Acting on the directions of Tiruvallur Superintendent of Police Vivekananda Sukla, three special police teams were formed to nab the culprits.

Police investigations led to the identification of four suspects from the same locality: Jawahar (23), Vinothkumar (36), Jyothish (34), and Neelakandan (30). Acting on a tip-off, police surrounded their hideout in Manavalanagar. During an attempt to escape, Neelakandan fractured his right leg while jumping over a compound wall, and Jawahar sustained a fracture to his right arm. All four were arrested and taken to the Tiruvallur Government Hospital for treatment before being taken into custody.

Following the murders, more than 50 residents from Ondikuppam staged a road blockade on the Poonamallee–Tiruvallur Highway, demanding swift justice. The protest was withdrawn after police assured strict action against the accused.

Meanwhile, political links of the accused have also surfaced. Neelakandan is reportedly associated with the Bahujan Samaj Party, while Jawahar is said to be a functionary of TVK. Both reportedly have previous criminal cases registered against them.

When questioned about whether the accused were under ganja or alcohol intoxication, Tiruvallur district police stated that the exact nature of intoxication would be confirmed only after medical examination reports, drawing criticism for allegedly downplaying the role of ganja in the killings.

The incident has intensified concerns over the growing menace of ganja and drug-related crimes in Tiruvallur district. PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss blamed the DMK government, alleging that Tiruvallur has become a major entry point for ganja into Tamil Nadu and that drug circulation has increased since the DMK came to power.

In a separate incident the same night, a gang of six youths allegedly under the influence of ganja vandalised houses, street taps, and streetlights at an Irular colony in Thazhavedu near Tiruttani. Two special teams have been formed to trace the absconding attackers.

Police and revenue department officials are investigating the recovery of more than 50 stone idols from the Cooum River at Pinjivakkam village in Tiruvallur district. The incident occurred within the limits of the Kadambathur police station, where an overbridge and a check dam are located across the river.

According to officials, the discovery was made on Tuesday morning when a local resident, Munusamy, who had gone to the riverbank to attend to nature’s call, noticed what appeared to be an idol visible in the water. Upon approaching closer and confirming it was indeed an idol, he informed his relatives and other villagers.

Following this, local residents and youth gathered at the spot and retrieved more than 50 stone idols from the river. The idols, each approximately one foot in height, include representations of Murugan, Vinayagar, Amman, Nagam, Ayyappan, and other deities. The recovered idols were placed on the riverbank, while villagers continued searching the river to check if more idols were present.

Based on the information received, police and revenue department officials reached the location and began examining the idols. Officials said that since the idols were found beneath the overbridge and near the check dam, it was unlikely that they had been washed down from the dam. They are investigating whether the idols were deliberately thrown into the river from the overbridge or whether idols that had been buried in the riverbed surfaced due to water flow.

Police and revenue officials are also examining the idols to determine their age and the period to which they belong. The recovery of more than 50 idols from the Cooum River has caused surprise and concern among local residents, while investigations into the circumstances surrounding their presence in the river are ongoing.

Two people died and more than ten others were hospitalised in Tiruvallur district after allegedly consuming contaminated drinking water, triggering protests by residents on Saturday.

The incident was reported from Karlambakkam Colony near Pallipattu, where villagers complained of vomiting, stomach pain and diarrhoea over the past few days. According to Times of India report, locals alleged that polluted water supplied through a panchayat-run borewell and overhead tank was responsible for the illnesses.

The first victim, identified as Ezhumalai, died after being admitted to a government hospital with severe gastrointestinal symptoms. The second victim, Sudha, collapsed on Saturday morning with similar complaints and died while being taken for treatment. Several others from the locality were admitted to nearby government hospitals with symptoms of food poisoning or waterborne infection.

Following the deaths, residents blocked the Pallipattu–R K Pet road, placing stones and branches to stop traffic. The protest intensified when Sudha’s body was brought back to the village, with family members initially refusing to accept it, claiming she might still be alive. She was later taken to a primary health centre, where doctors confirmed her death.

Villagers alleged that sewage contamination may have entered the drinking water supply and accused local authorities of negligence. Health officials have collected water samples for laboratory testing to determine the exact cause of the contamination. A temporary medical camp has been set up in the area to screen residents and provide treatment.

Police and revenue officials intervened to pacify the protesters and restore traffic, while authorities said further action would be taken based on the test results.

Nearly two months after the shocking sexual assault of a 10-year-old girl in Arambakkam, Tiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu, the accused has now been detained under the stringent Goondas Act. Authorities confirmed on 27 August that the action was taken following a recommendation from the district police chief and subsequent orders issued by the District Collector.

The crime took place on 12 July, when the minor, who was on her way to her grandmother’s house, was ambushed in a mango grove by a 35-year-old man and sexually assaulted. The incident triggered widespread public outrage and immediate demands for justice.

In response, the Tamil Nadu Police launched a massive manhunt to trace the suspect and announced a reward of Rs 5 lakh for any information leading to his arrest. Within days, investigators tracked down the accused, identified as Raju Bishwakarma, a migrant worker from Assam. Bishwakarma had been employed at a roadside dhaba in Sulurpet, located in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, when he was apprehended.

The police subsequently booked him under three crucial Sections, including those pertaining to sexual assault against a minor, ensuring that the case would be pursued under the most stringent provisions of law. The severity of the offence, coupled with the threat he posed to society, led authorities to invoke the Goondas Act against him — a preventive detention law that allows the state to keep repeat or habitual offenders in custody without bail for up to one year.

Officials stated that such action was necessary to send a strong message against heinous crimes targeting women and children, and to ensure the safety of the community. The use of the Goondas Act in this case underscores the administration’s zero-tolerance stance towards sexual offences. The case continues to draw attention across Tamil Nadu, with child rights activists and women’s groups demanding speedy trial and strictest possible punishment for the accused. The district administration has assured that all legal measures will be taken to ensure justice for the young girl and her family.

A disturbing video showing a police officer violently attacking a pregnant woman at a police station who came to file sexual harassment case has sparked widespread outrage.

The victim, Madhumitha, a resident of Kanakamma Chatram in Tiruvallur district, had approached the local police to lodge a complaint against Shivaji, a nearby bakery owner. Shivaji, despite being married, had reportedly obtained her phone number through a third party and began sending her obscene messages and pressuring her to meet him, amounting to persistent sexual harassment.

Five months into her pregnancy, Madhumitha, accompanied by another woman named Dhanam, Sevanthi, went to the Kanakamma Chatram police station to report the abuse. However, instead of receiving support, the women were allegedly met with hostility by a police officer named Raman, who is said to have sided with the accused.

Eyewitnesses and the viral video reveal that Officer Raman physically assaulted both women and acted in a degrading manner toward Madhumitha, including allegedly pulling at her clothing; an act perceived as an attempt to humiliate her. The two women were then reportedly forced out of the police station without their complaint being registered.

The incident has provoked condemnation from across the political and social spectrum, with many calling for immediate disciplinary action against both the officer involved and the accused harasser, Shivaji. The case has once again raised serious concerns about the treatment of women, especially vulnerable women, within police systems meant to protect them

Speaking to the media, the victim’s family said, “My aunt’s daughter who is five months pregnant came home. She was pushed aside assaulted, hit in the stomach and on the head. When my sister went to inquire about it, my sister was also beaten. When we went to the police station to file a complaint, they had taken money from Sivaji. Three people were sitting there, we don’t know their names, but we know Sivaji well. When we went there, they verbally abused us terribly, assaulted us, pushed us out, and he used very inappropriate language and touched us inappropriately. That police officer, Raman, touched us in inappropriate places. Action needs to be taken against him. The Chief Minister should take appropriate action and punish him.”

Following the incident, Tamil Nadu BJP President Nainar Nagendran strongly criticized the actions of the police officer and called on the Chief Minister to step in and ensure justice is served. In a post on social media platform X, he stated, A video has surfaced, causing great shock, showing a police officer brutally attacking three women, including a five-month pregnant woman, who went to the Kanakammachathiram police station in Tiruvallur district to file a complaint about sexual harassment. From where did the police officer get the audacity to accept bribes from the accused and mercilessly assault the victims? Has humanity eroded so much in the police that they would stoop to attacking a poor pregnant woman? If the police, who are supposed to protect victims from criminals, are the ones attacking the victims, I don’t understand where to seek justice in the Dravidian model of governance. I strongly urge the Honorable Chief Minister, Mr.@mkstalin, to immediately intervene in this incident that questions the dignity of the police force, conduct a thorough investigation and take appropriate action against the police officer who in a display of arrogance and power acted as a source of anarchy by attacking three women.”

In a deeply troubling case of alleged medical negligence under the Dravidian model of medical health care management, the body of a deceased Tamil Nadu man was mistakenly sent to Bihar from the Tiruvallur Government Hospital, sparking outrage among family members and demands for urgent action against those responsible.

The incident began when Rajendran, a 60-year-old agricultural labourer from Pooji Reddy Palli village near Tiruttani in Tiruvallur district, consumed pesticide in a suspected suicide attempt, reportedly due to severe stomach pain. He was initially admitted to Tiruttani Government Hospital and later referred to Tiruvallur Government Hospital for further treatment. Tragically, he died before receiving any medical care.

Following his death, hospital staff instructed Rajendran’s family to store his body in the hospital mortuary and obtain a police clearance for an autopsy. However, when the family returned with the necessary documents, Rajendran’s body had gone missing.

According to Rajendran’s younger brother Vignesh, the family was left confused and devastated when they found another unidentified body in place of Rajendran’s. “We searched everywhere. When we saw that the body wasn’t his, we were in shock. His features didn’t match. Still, hospital staff kept insisting it was him and tried to convince us otherwise,” Vignesh said, recounting the incident.

The twist emerged when it was discovered that Rajendran’s body had been mistakenly handed over to the relatives of another deceased individual — a migrant worker from Bihar named Manoj Mansi, who had also died at the same hospital around the same time. Both bodies, classified as unidentified due to a lack of proper documentation, were kept in the same mortuary. In a critical error, Rajendran’s body was taken in an ambulance to Bihar under the assumption that it was Mansi’s.

The family’s lawyer and local advocates worked overnight to trace the ambulance and contacted the police, who managed to stop the vehicle en route. The hospital and ambulance service, meanwhile, reportedly remained evasive and uncooperative. “From 11 AM to 3 AM, they gave vague responses,” Vignesh said. “It was only after media intervention and our own efforts that we found out Rajendran’s body had been sent to Bihar.”

The police were eventually able to locate the vehicle transporting the body and instructed it to return to Tamil Nadu. The family now awaits the repatriation of Rajendran’s remains.

Relatives, including their legal representative Muthu, have demanded swift intervention from the Tamil Nadu Health Minister and strict action against the hospital staff responsible for the blunder.

“This isn’t a small mistake. A human body was mishandled, and a grieving family was put through unimaginable trauma,” said Muthu. “The Health Minister must intervene directly, identify those at fault, and ensure they are held accountable — publicly. Only then will the public regain trust in the state’s medical system.”

The incident has raised serious concerns about the hospital’s morgue management and record-keeping practices. No official response has yet been issued by the Tamil Nadu Directorate of Medical Education or the Health Department.

Locals have expressed strong resistance to the opening of a new TASMAC outlet in the town, yet the Dravidian model government has deployed substantial police forces to ensure the shop’s inauguration proceeds smoothly.

A new facility was built for the TASMAC outlet in Pattapiramapuram panchayat, situated along the Chennai National Highway near Tiruttani in Tiruvallur district. Residents of the area have voiced significant opposition to the establishment, with women notably leading protests over recent days.

Members of the PMK party have also been vocal in their objection. Despite this opposition, the TASMAC shop was opened under heavy police protection, with around a hundred officers led by Tiruttani DSP Kandan present to maintain order.

Police have additionally managed traffic in the vicinity to prevent disruptions caused by the demonstrations. Meanwhile, patrons have been purchasing liquor under the watchful presence of law enforcement.

An attempt to sabotage a train near Tiruvallur was narrowly prevented after bolts and nuts were found missing from a section of the railway track near Tiruvalangadu station. The incident has raised serious concerns, prompting an in-depth investigation by railway police.

The issue came to light in the Harichandrapuram area, close to Tiruvalangadu, where the railway line heads toward Chennai. A railway lineman spotted the missing fasteners during a routine inspection and quickly disabled the signal system, thereby preventing a potential disaster.

Authorities suspect foul play and are probing the incident to determine who tampered with the track. Railway officials, upon arriving at the scene, began investigating whether this was part of a deliberate attempt to derail a train.

As part of the investigation, a sniffer dog named Nancy was brought in to assist, while police continue to search for clues and question possible suspects.
