Amid election fervour in J&K, BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh accused prominent leaders, including former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, Farooq Abdullah, and Mehbooba Mufti, of betraying the people of the Union Territory (UT).

Speaking to journalists after addressing BJP workers in Samba on Tuesday, Chugh emphasised the party’s zero-tolerance policy towards separatist ideologies in Jammu and Kashmir. He stated, “The people here detest the thinking of leaders like Abdullah, Mufti, Nehru, and (Engineer) Rashid. These leaders have deceived the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The people here trust Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Leaders like Farooq Abdullah, Mufti, Gandhi, Nehru, and Rashid speak of separatism, and the people of Jammu and Kashmir reject their ideologies.”

Chugh asserted that Jammu and Kashmir is moving towards tourism rather than separatism or terrorism. He claimed that three families had turned Jammu and Kashmir into the capital of terrorism, but PM Modi has worked to transform it into a tourism hub.

“Today, development projects are underway in Jammu and Kashmir. Roads and bridges are being built, and the railway line has reached Srinagar. Jammu and Kashmir is on the development path, and a new dawn has arrived. The people will reject those who attempt to obstruct this development. PM Modi will receive the blessings of the people. The people of Jammu and Kashmir trust Prime Minister Modi,” he pointed out.

Chugh further commented, “The people of Jammu and Kashmir do not favour separatist thinkers, whether they are Abdullah, Mufti, Gandhi-Nehru, Rashid, or anyone else. Our policy is zero tolerance towards terrorism, and we will fully implement it.”

BJP candidates Chander Prakash Ganga, contesting from Vijaypur, and Surjeet Singh Salathia, from Samba constituency, were also present during the address. Notably, there are 90 assembly seats in Jammu and Kashmir, with 47 in the Valley and 43 in the Jammu division. Of these, nine seats are reserved for Scheduled Tribes (ST) and seven for Scheduled Castes (SC). Voting will be conducted in three phases, with results to be declared on October 8.

Commenting on the Mann Ki Baat delivered by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday (June 27), former Rajya Sabha MP Tarun Vijay  said that he is overwhelmed with joy to see PM Modi declaring Tamil as world’s oldest language. He said that each and every Indian must learn Tamil.

Tarun Vijay said that he knows Prime Minister Modi for the last thirty five years and can vouch that he is a genuine devotee of Tamil culture and heritage. He said that PM Modi is inspired by the timeless Thirukkural.

“In most of his speeches Tamil scriptures, relevant couplets from the Thirukkural is quoted. That is the impact the literary work has had on him”, Tarun Vijay said.

He also said that when he met him in Gujarat in 2013 on his birthday he presented  him a portrait of Tamil poet and freedom fighter Subramania Bharathiyar which he received with great delight.

Tarun Vijay said that PM Modi is the real ambassador of Tamil language, culture and heritage. He added that it was the Modi’s passion towards Tamil that inspired him to work for taking Thirukkural to nook and corner of the world.

Former MP and President of Students and Youth for Thiruvalluvar Tarun Vijay hailed SP Balasubrahmanyam as a living Sangeetha Thirtham (a pilgrim centre of music) as the playback singer passed away on September 25.

Paying homage to the legendary singer, Tarun Vijay said that generations would be ever indebted to him for his music.

Tarun Vijay who is also known as ‘Tamil’ Tarun Vijay for his immense passion towards Tamil and Thiruvalluvar said that SPB lived following the ideals of Saint Thiruvalluvar in his life by being humble and simple.

“Music will never be the same again. My salutations to him and deep felt homage.” Mr. Tarun Vijay said.

SP Balasubrahmanyam fondly called as SPB who had given numerous numbers for people to hum across generations breathed his last on September 25, 2020 at 01:04 PM.

He was admitted to the MGM Health Care hospital upon testing positive for the Wuhan virus.

However, his health had deteriorated and was shifted to the intensive care unit. On September 7, he had tested negative for the Wuhan virus but remained on ventilator support. He was kept on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) support for the past few days.

SPB had sung more than 40,000 songs in 16 languages. He holds the Guinness World Record for recording the highest number of songs by a singer. He made his debut as a playback singer in 1966 with the Telugu film Sri Sri Sri Maryada Ramanna. 

He has won several awards including the Padma Shri (2001) and Padma Bhushan (2011) from the Government of India.

He had donated his ancestral house in Nellore to the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham in the presence of Sri Sankara Vijayendra Saraswathi Swami on February 11, 2020 for running a Veda Patasala.

Tarun Vijay said that he had on many occasions met Pranab Mukherjee when he was President and spoke on Tamil issues and also presented him a Thiruvalluvar statute.

He said that Pranab Mukhrejee was the first President who had the Thirukural sung inside the Rashtrapathi Bhavan by 133 students from Tamil Nadu. He had taken a group picture with students from Tamil Nadu who sang the Thirukkural in Rashtrapati Bhavan.

During the Krishna Janmashtami of 2014, the then President Shri Pranab Mukherjee broke protocol to meet Tarun Vijay who was a Rajya Sabha MP at that time, to hear his plea to introduce Tamil in Madras High Court.

The Office of the President is one of the busiest offices especially on festive occasions. Meeting the Head of the State on such days is almost impossible as protocols do not allow for other meetings.

However, the former President broke protocols and met Mr. Tarun Vijay out of his love and respect for both ‘Tamil’ and ‘Tamil Tarun Vijay’ as he is known for his deep passion towards the Thiruvalluvar, Thirukkural and the Tamil language as a whole.

Mr. Pranab Mukherjee had carefully gone through the memorandum of Tarun Vijay to introduce Tamil in Madras High Court.

He had appreciated Mr. Tarun Vijay’s efforts of national integration and assured of early on the matter.

Tamil Nadu has been making requests consistently to introduce Tamil as one of the court languages at the Madras High Court. The Tamil Nadu Assembly had passed a resolution in 2006 urging the Centre to get the President’s assent in using Tamil language for court proceedings. However, this proposal made which was referred to the Chief Justice of India for advice was rejected in 2012 after deliberations with the Supreme Court.

The proposal to make Tamil the official language was rejected earlier by the Supreme Court in 1997 and 1999.

Former MP and President of Students and Youth for Thiruvalluvar Tarun Vijay presented approximately 26000 Rakhis to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to be sent to Indian soldiers in Ladakh and other border areas.

Students from Bharani Vidyalaya of Karur, Tamil Nadu made around 13,000 Rakhis, all handcrafted. It was done by Students and Youth For Thiruvalluvar organisation with the help of the principal of the school Ram Subramanyam.

Some of these Rakhis have Thirukural written on them with pictures of Indian Army Jawans’ victory.

Another lot was prepared by children of the Aryan School in Dehradun.

Sewa Bharati, an RSS inspired service organisation prepared several thousand Rakhis through girls living in underprivileged areas and sewa bastis. Youth For Bharat leader Ms. Vrinda led the Rakhi group.

The Students and Youth for Thiruvalluvar (SYT) has been doing this for the past four years.

Appreciating the effort Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that these are not just the Rakhi threads but blessings of their sisters for the soldiers who are brave against all odds to protect our nation.

Former MP and President of Students and Youth for Thiruvalluvar Tarun Vijay has filed a complaint with the National Human Rights Commission and has demanded a probe by central agencies over the Sathankulam police brutality incident that resulted in the death of Jeyaraj (59) and Bennix (31).

Jeyaraj and his son Bennix had been detained by the police at Sathankulam Police Station of Thoothukudi district, following a dispute over having kept their shop open despite the lockdown.

Mr. Tarun Vijay in his complaint said “It is a national blot on us, it hurts me here in Uttarakhand, sitting in Dehradun as much as it hurts Tamils. Hence I am filing this complaint from Himalayas”.

He expressed his anguish in a strong manner saying that people who were supposed to provide protection and uphold the dignity and spirit of the Constitution became monsters.

He said that the culprits must be given the harshest punishment and must be treated like terrorists.

“Justice has been broken into smithereens. India has been ashamed. Citizenship has been abused. Faith of the citizen in law and order machinery has been broken.  They have shamed  savages like Pol Pot, Idi Amin and ISIS terrorists.” Mr. Tarun Vijay said in his complaint.

The former MP who is known for his affinity towards Tamil and passionate about Tamil causes quoted extensively from the Iraimaatchi (The Greatness of a King) chapter of Thirukkural to drive home the point of upholding justice.

The complaint was filed through Human Rights Defense International (HRDI), an organisation committed to the cause of Indian Diaspora, minorities, refugees, stateless people, women, workers and other marginalised sections of society, of which Mr. Tarun Vijay is a member.

Speaking to The Commune, Secretary General of HRDI, advocate and human rights activist Rajesh Gogna said that the colonial mindset of police force still exists. He said that the history of police brutality shows that it is the marginalized sections and common citizenry who fall victims. “Police have much more power during emergency situations like this, they should act with a sense of responsibility” he said.

“They are middle class people who had opened their mobile shops to cater to the needs of public. They had just kept their shops open for 30-40 mins extra. What was the crime in that?” Mr. Rajesh Gogna said. He termed the incident a “custodial murder” and said that the culprit officers must be tried as ordinary criminals and not as police officers with privileges. He pressed for the registration of an FIR and arrest of those involved. He called for a judicial enquiry by a sitting Supreme Court or a High Court Judge.

Mr. Rajesh Gogna added that the family should be given a compensation of ₹1 crore. “If police officers who die of COVID19 can be given ₹1 crore, why only ₹10 lakh for those who died at the hands of police officers who were supposed to protect their lives?” he said.

The statue of Bharat Mata was installed by a daily wage earner named Muthu Kumar at his ancestral temple who was then subsequently asked by the local police to remove the statue citing complaints from local Christians.

BJP leaders Tarun Vijay and K.J Alphons had written to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami to take action regarding the same.

Supreme Court lawyer Rajesh Gogna had sent notice to CM and Director General of Police, Tamilnadu to probe the entire incident and take back the police notice. He also asked for punishing the guilty and providing security to Muthu Kumar.

Mr. Tarun Vijay in his press release condemned the actions of the local police for vitiating the communal atmosphere amid COVID 19. He asked “at whose behest and under which law the sub-inspector of police of South Thamaraikulam police station sent a written notice to Thiru. Muthu Kumar? Why did the collector give verbal orders to take out the cover from Bharat Mata statue and why the police order was not withdrawn?”

He called for the notice to be taken back and added that the police must apologize to Muthu Kumar.

Mr. Tarun Vijay said “it is shameful that in the land of great revolutionaries like Subramania Bharathi and sage philosopher Thiruvalluvar  we had to fight  for the honour of Bharat Mata.”

He thanked Rajya Sabha MP K.J. Alphons for his support and called for renaming Puviyoor village as Bharat Mata village. He said that Puviyoor has become a new Bharat Mata Teertha (pilgrim centre) for the patriotic people and added that he will ensure more and more people come to visit the temple from rest of country.

Reacting sharply to the incident in Kanyakumari where a Bharat Mata statue was covered by the police citing complaints from local Christians, BJP leaders Tarun Vijay and K.J Alphons have written to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami to take action regarding the same.

The statue of Bharat Mata was installed by a daily wage earner named Muthu Kumar at his ancestral temple who was then subsequently asked by the local police to remove the statue citing complaints from Christians. The police then covered the statue with a white cloth and took Muthu Kumar into custody.

The letter addressed to CM Palaniswami states that “Bharat Mata is an icon of faith and a symbol of devotion to India, that has inspired millions of revolutionaries during freedom struggle and still is an icon of inspiration for soldiers and common people alike. In Corona times we must stand united and defeat the deadly virus with solidarity.”

Mr. Tarun Vijay added “We, Hindus and Christians are one people, all children of Bharat Mata and those who try to divide us must be defeated.”

Tarun Vijay, an RSS ideological  thought leader and a former BJP MP and KJ Alphons currently a Rajya Sabha MP who was also the former Union Minister of State for Culture and Tourism have signed the letter.

They have demanded that the daily wage earner Mr. Muthu Kumar be helped, uphold the dignity of Bharat Mata and the respective police officers be punished.

Earlier today, members from a few Hindu organizations restored the statue. However, the statue was immediately covered again and those who tried to restore the statue have been arrested by the police.
