Tamil Nadu’s political landscape is entering a volatile and transformative phase as speculations mount over a potential meeting between Rahul Gandhi and Thalapathy Vijay Chandrasekhar, the actor-turned-politician leading the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). The anticipated interaction comes amid visible strains between the Congress and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), signaling possible recalibrations ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

Rahul Gandhi’s Outreach To Vijay

In late September 2025, Rahul Gandhi’s call to Vijay after the Karur stampede sparked speculation about deeper political intentions. Although Congress leaders publicly described the gesture as humanitarian, the context and timing — following Gandhi’s call to CM M.K. Stalin — raised eyebrows across political circles. Vijay, whose party is widely regarded as a growing political force, remained silent after the exchange, fueling theories of back-channel interest between TVK and Congress.

Leaders within the state Congress have voiced growing dissatisfaction with their limited influence under the DMK-led alliance, which dominates the ruling Secular Progressive Front. Some have called for more equal power-sharing, with demands reportedly extending up to 50% of assembly seats and a stake in government formation.

Given Vijay’s considerable fan base in Kerala, Congress insiders believe that bringing him on board could boost the party’s prospects of returning to power in the state.

Cracks In The DMK-Congress Alliance

Recent developments in Tamil Nadu politics have revealed growing friction between the DMK and Congress, two long-standing allies within the Secular Progressive Alliance. Several visible cracks have emerged over the past months, pointing to deeper structural tensions in their partnership ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.

Seat-Sharing Demands And Power-Sharing Rift

One major source of strain has been the Congress’s push for a significantly larger seat share in the upcoming election. In the 2021 polls, the party contested 25 seats and won 18, but its leaders argue this underrepresents their strength. AICC in-charge Girish Chodankar announced preparations to contest in 125 constituencies, forming over 21,000 village committees to expand the Congress base. During a Tirunelveli meeting, Chodankar is reported to have floated a “fifty-fifty” power-sharing demand, calling for 117 Assembly seats and a stake in governance if the coalition wins.

Supporting voices within the party include S. Rajeshkumar, who demanded the formation of a coalition government instead of DMK’s unilateral rule, and former TNCC chief K.S. Alagiri, who echoed the call for “a rightful share in power”. These statements have been publicly leveraged by opposition leaders like Edappadi K. Palaniswami (AIADMK) to portray the alliance as fractured.

Jothimani And Karur Defection Controversy

Congress MP Jothimani openly clashed with DMK minister V. Senthil Balaji after a Congress district office-bearer in Karur defected to the DMK, calling the move “unethical” and accusing DMK leadership of political poaching. This incident followed a July 2025 dispute when Congress MLAs, including Rajeshkumar, criticized DMK MP Tiruchi Siva for remarks perceived as disrespectful toward former CM K. Kamaraj, forcing Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to personally intervene. These repeated flare-ups have heightened mistrust between grassroots cadres of both parties.

Selvaperunthagai’s Chembarambakkam Dam Row

Another flashpoint occurred in October 2025 when TNCC president K. Selvaperunthagai expressed anger over being excluded from the Chembarambakkam reservoir water release event in his constituency, Sriperumbudur. He alleged caste bias within the Water Resources Department (WRD) and accused officials of sidelining elected representatives from Congress. His televised remarks criticizing bureaucrats for lack of communication triggered official backlash; the TNSEA engineers’ association demanded a police complaint against him for “disrespectful conduct”. The controversy, though localized, highlighted growing alienation between Congress leaders and the DMK-led state administration.

Political One-Upmanship and Assertion

In recent weeks, Congress leaders have struck an increasingly assertive tone. Manickam Tagore, a senior MP, warned that only those who “give due respect to Congress” would receive Congress’s backing for chief ministership, implicitly nudging DMK toward greater accommodation. The ongoing media discourse now revolves around whether Congress intends to renegotiate terms with DMK or explore new alliances, possibly with Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), to expand its southern footprint.

In recent weeks, Congress leaders have struck an increasingly assertive tone. Manickam Tagore, a senior MP, warned that only those who “give due respect to Congress” would receive Congress’s backing for chief ministership, implicitly nudging DMK toward greater accommodation.

AIADMK chief Edappadi K. Palaniswami has seized upon these rifts, predicting that the partnership “is going to get deserted” before 2026.

Congress insiders acknowledge these tensions but insist that while their alliance with DMK remains intact, the party cannot “close channels of communication” with new political entrants like Vijay. This dual-track strategy reflects Congress’s ambition to strengthen its base independently while maintaining leverage over its senior ally.

Vijay’s Political Positioning And TVK’s Rise

Vijay’s TVK has evolved rapidly since its inception, gathering momentum with mass mobilization campaigns, a strong youth base, and populist rhetoric against both DMK and AIADMK. In September 2025, TVK officially declared Vijay as its chief ministerial candidate, signaling a clear intent to challenge DMK supremacy. Vijay has condemned both major Dravidian parties, accusing the DMK of “underground dealings” with the BJP and branding both as “ideological enemies”. His message — a fusion of anti-establishment politics and Dravidian cultural pride — resonates with younger and first-time voters disillusioned by traditional power blocs.

The Broader Political Equation

The speculation around a Rahul-Vijay meeting cannot be isolated from the larger realignments in Tamil Nadu politics. With AIADMK battling internal divisions and the BJP attempting indirect influence through regional outreach, a Congress–TVK alignment — even a limited one — could shift the axis of competition away from a pure DMK vs. rest binary. Observers note that such a move, if it materializes, would give Congress both negotiating power with DMK and a contingency link to a rising force with immense popular appeal.

Recent developments indicate that even AIADMK leaders have floated the idea of understanding with Vijay’s TVK as a “need of the hour,” further proving the magnetic pull of Vijay’s expanding political relevance.

What Lies Ahead

As Tamil Nadu approaches the 2026 elections, the state’s political ecosystem is entering a phase of flux unseen since the early Dravidian movement era. The Rahul Gandhi-Vijay engagement, even if informal, signals that national parties recognize TVK’s voter appeal and strategic potential. Whether this evolves into a tactical alliance or remains a gesture of outreach, one thing is certain — Vijay Chandrasekhar has moved from the periphery of Tamil Nadu politics to its centre stage, compelling both allies and opponents to rethink their electoral arithmetic.

In a shocking display of misinformation, Congress MP Jothimani has peddled false information regarding the Supreme Court’s order to transfer the TVK Karur stampede case to CBI. The incident, which occurred on September 27, 2025, during a rally by Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) led by actor-politician Vijay, resulted in the loss of 41 lives and left several others injured.

On October 13, 2025, the Supreme Court issued a landmark order transferring the investigation of the Karur stampede from the Tamil Nadu state authorities to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The court’s decision was a response to concerns over the impartiality of the initial probe, which had been handled by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the Madras High Court and a one-man commission appointed by the DMK government in Tamil Nadu.

A key excerpt from the Supreme Court order states: “In view of transferring the investigation to the CBI, the direction for appointment of SIT or one-man enquiry commission shall remain suspended.

This suspension was a clear indication that the court sought an independent and unbiased investigation, free from state influence.

Furthermore, the court directed the Tamil Nadu government to extend full cooperation to the CBI and provide necessary logistical support. To ensure oversight, the Supreme Court proposed the formation of a three-member Supervisory Committee, headed by retired Justice Ajay Rastogi, with the mandate to monitor the CBI’s investigation and issue appropriate directives. This move was intended to address the concerns of all parties involved and uphold the principles of independence and impartiality.

Jothimani’s Contradictory Claims

Despite the Supreme Court’s explicit order, Congress MP Jothimani appeared to contradict the ruling in statements reported by various news outlets.

Jothimani suggested that the Supreme Court had prioritized the one-man commission appointed by the Tamil Nadu government over a CBI probe, stating, “The Supreme Court judgment still allows the one-member commission from the Tamil Nadu government to do its job.” This claim stands in direct opposition to the court’s suspension of the state-appointed commission, as outlined in the official order.

The discrepancy was quickly highlighted by BJP leader C.R. Kesavan, who took to X to criticize Jothimani’s remarks. In a strongly worded post, Kesavan accused the Congress party of peddling “perilous false propaganda and blatant lies,” pointing out that the MP’s statements contradicted the Supreme Court’s directive. He further questioned whether Jothimani’s remarks constituted contempt of court, given the clear suspension of the state-led commission.

The Supreme Court’s decision to transfer the case to the CBI and establish a supervisory committee reflects growing concerns about the independence of the state-led probe, especially given allegations of mismanagement and political interference. Jothimani’s earlier statements, where she criticized the TVK for holding the rally on an unsuitable day, had already drawn attention, but her latest remarks have amplified the controversy.

It seems like a calculated effort to undermine the court’s authority and protect the interests of the ruling DMK government in Tamil Nadu, which has faced scrutiny over its handling of the stampede incident.

On September 27, 2025, a pall of gloom descended Karur as it turned into a graveyard with 39 lives — including nine children and seventeen women — getting crushed to death due to a stampede at actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam’s (TVK) rally. More than 80 were injured.

Poor planning by the local administration under the DMK government, combined with TVK’s reckless mismanagement, left tens of thousands of people standing for hours under the scorching sun with no proper crowd control. The situation turned catastrophic when the crowd was forced to make way for Vijay’s vehicle, triggering a surge that trapped people in a deadly crush. Panic spread as people fainted, gasped for air, and collapsed — ultimately resulting in a devastating stampede that could have been entirely prevented.

And yet, in the aftermath, both the DMK government and Joseph Vijay’s party are busy trading barbs, as if this was a political blame game rather than a preventable human tragedy.

The truth is uncomfortable but unavoidable: both TVK and DMK have blood on their hands.

TVK’s Reckless Gamble With Lives

As organizers, TVK displayed sheer incompetence — or worse, criminal negligence. According to Tamil Nadu Director General of Police, permission was sought for 10,000 people but around 30,000 people showed up. The site was inadequate, but TVK refused alternative venues. No water, no barricades, no medical facilities, no clear evacuation routes — nothing that even remotely resembled responsible event management.

Adding to the recklessness, Vijay chose to arrive nearly seven hours late. Crowds that had gathered since morning were left stranded in the sweltering heat, surging forward in desperation when word spread of his approach. Was this delay, as some allege, a deliberate stunt to capture dramatic drone shots of “massive crowds”? If so, TVK gambled with lives for optics — and lost.

The result: chaos, suffocation, and a deadly stampede triggered by a wave of human bodies desperate to catch a glimpse of their leader.

Vijay and his party functionaries should have acted responsibly instead of conveniently invoking the ‘cooperation’ of the very state government they endlessly criticize. If the district administration denied every venue they asked for, Vijay could have simply rescheduled his program to another day. And given his personal wealth and resources, he could have easily engaged his own private security forces with the police and district authorities to ensure proper arrangements — if he had truly cared about safety more than optics.

The Madras High Court, while hearing a petition by TVK regarding denied permissions, made a pointed remark: “You, as the leader, should control the crowd,” Justice Sathish Kumar said. Vijay clearly failed in this fundamental responsibility, allowing his frenzied, fanatical mob to surge uncontrollably, turning what should have been a political rally into a deadly stampede.

DMK’s Administrative Failure Or Deliberate Sabotage?

But TVK’s culpability does not absolve the ruling DMK. If TVK was reckless, the DMK govt was incompetent. Currently, the Tamil Nadu police force doesn’t even have a regular Director General of Police due to political reasons. There’s only an acting-DGP.

The police and district administration approved a venue inadequate for the turnout, imposed no safeguards, and deployed insufficient security. No real-time crowd monitoring, no emergency medical teams, no preparedness.

TVK proposed four urban spots (e.g., Bus Stand roundabout), but police rejected them due to population density and traffic risks. Permission was granted for Velusamypuram (an open area previously used for an AIADMK rally), but the site proved inadequate for the turnout. The location where the rally happened cannot even hold a crowd of 5000. On what basis was the location allotted by the local administration? Why were enough security personnel not deployed when we know that there will be uncontrollable crowd coming in not just from Karur but neighbouring districts as well?

While ADGP Davidson Devasirvatham says thats 500 people were deployed, the real ground-level police officers were fewer than 100 in number according to BJP leader Annamalai.

When the surge happened, ambulances were trapped in the same crowd they were supposed to save. Victims died en route to hospitals, some gasping for air while the state machinery remained paralyzed. The power cuts may have been unavoidable, thanks to frenzied TVK fanatics mindlessly scaling electric poles just to glimpse their matinee idol. But what should have been a safety measure only ended up deepening the chaos, plunging the venue into darkness and confusion.

This was not the first warning sign either. Vijay’s Trichy rally earlier in September had exposed glaring lapses, with the Madras High Court itself cautioning the state to tighten guidelines for political gatherings. The DMK government clearly ignored those red flags.

And here lies the darker question: was this just negligence — or something more sinister? Did the DMK deliberately allow such an ill-managed setup to proceed, knowing full well it could backfire on Vijay? A tragedy of this scale not only tarnishes his reputation but also plants seeds of fear among his supporters, potentially shrinking turnout at future rallies. Was this disaster merely incompetence, or was it a calculated attempt to psychologically weaken a rising rival?

And let’s not forget — this is Karur, the political fiefdom of Senthil Balaji. Everyone in Tamil Nadu knows what this man is capable of, given his long track record of intimidation, strong-arm tactics, and murky dealings. In his backyard, nothing happens without his shadow looming large. Which raises an even darker suspicion: was the administrative paralysis in Karur mere incompetence, or was it the deliberate handiwork of a seasoned operator ensuring that Vijay’s show ended in disaster?

Beyond Politics: Negligence Codified In Blood

The law is unambiguous. Bussy N. Anand, CTR Nirmal Kumar, TVK’s Karur District Secretary and others have been charged under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections relating to culpable homicide not amounting to murder, acts of rash/negligent conduct endangering human life and disobedience to an order issued by a public servant. They have also been charged under the Tamil Nadu Public Property (Prevention of Damage and Loss) Act.

But should the buck stop there? On December 4, 2024, a stampede at the Pushpa 2 premiere at Sandhya Theatre, Hyderabad, claimed the life of Revathi and left her son Sri Tej injured, triggered by overcrowding during Allu Arjun’s visit. The actor faced arrest and later secured bail. If in Telangana, a star whose actions contributed to a single death was held legally accountable, why is Joseph Vijay allowed to walk away scot-free after a tragedy that claimed 39 lives?

What about the DMK-run police and administration that rubber-stamped permissions, failed to enforce restrictions, and essentially outsourced public safety to amateurs blinded by stardom?

Tamil People Should Come Out Of Cinema Intoxication

Karur was not just a failure of TVK’s planning or the DMK government’s negligence — it was a catastrophe born of arrogance, mismanagement, and mindless devotion. TVK and Vijay prioritized optics over lives, arriving hours late and ignoring basic safety measures. The DMK administration approved inadequate venues, deployed minimal security, and plunged the city into chaos, raising the darker question: was this incompetence, or deliberate sabotage? And yet, the crowd itself bears responsibility. It is utterly reckless to bring toddlers into a throng of tens of thousands, to climb poles and buildings without authorization, risking life for a fleeting glimpse of a star. What is the point? Don’t fans have basic sense? Is Vijay so important that it’s worth your life? This frenzied, zombie-like devotion must end. Tamil people must break free from this cinema star intoxication.

Karur demands justice, and history will not forgive those who chose politics over life.

A wave of shock and grief swept across Karur after a tragic stampede at Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader Vijay’s rally in Veluchamipuram on Saturday evening left 31 people dead and more than 40 injured.

According to Health Minister Ma. Subramanian, the deceased included six children, nine men, and 16 women, all of whom were brought dead to hospitals. He also confirmed that medical reinforcements were being rushed from across the state, with 24 doctors from Tiruchy, 20 from Salem, and five from Dindigul expected to arrive in Karur within an hour.

The Tamil Nadu government has mobilised extensive resources in response to the disaster. Senior health officials, including the Health Secretary and Director of Medical Education, headed to Karur, while additional doctors from Tiruchy, Dindigul, Namakkal, and Madurai Medical College were deployed to Karur Medical College, where most victims were admitted. Dr. R. Suganthy Rajakumari, Director of Medical Education, stated that around 30 doctors were already on site and more would be sent if required. She further noted that 33 bodies had been brought to the college hospital, which has sufficient facilities to handle the crisis.

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is expected to visit Karur on Sunday to review the situation. School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi and former minister Senthil Balaji also reached the hospital to oversee relief measures.

President of India Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah have expressed grief over the tragic incident.

The incident occurred during Vijay’s campaign in the Kongu region, part of his preparations for the 2026 Assembly elections. Arriving by chartered flight from Chennai earlier in the day, he had been campaigning in Namakkal before heading to Karur, where his rally drew massive crowds. The chaos broke out during his address, forcing the actor-turned-politician to cut short his speech as people began collapsing in the heat and crush.

Vijay, visibly shaken, appealed to his supporters to make way for ambulances and provide assistance to the injured.

However, many have criticised the TVK chief for failing to meet the families of those killed or injured in the stampede before his departure.

Actor Joseph Vijay, now parading as a politician, loves to project himself as a messiah of morality. Like a typical DMK lackey, he has been trying to brand RSS as a “divisive force” in Tamil Nadu.

It is hardly surprising he speaks that way — after all, he, his party, and his inner circle all come from the same mould – be it his father, his advisor Aadhav Arjuna (son-in-law of Lottery Martin), his another advisor is Jhon Arockiasamy, or his association with Atlee.

But if Vijay truly wants to speak of divisive forces in Tamil Nadu, he need not look beyond the missionaries and evangelists of his own religion. For decades, their actions—cloaked in the garb of charity and faith—have fractured communities, grabbed lands, and stoked enmity.

Let’s take a look one by one.

Conversions: Preying On The Vulnerable

Missionary groups in Tamil Nadu have long been involved in aggressive proselytization, uprooting native people from their culture.

From Perambalur and Virudhunagar villages to Theni and Madurai, reports have shown evangelists luring poor children with gifts, coercing families with promises of healing, and exploiting vulnerable communities like the Narikuravars.

1. May 2022 – Devendra Kula Vellalar Family Harassed To Convert

A woman tried to set herself on fire in front of the Ramanathapuram District Collector Office demanding action against few people in her village for forcing her and her family to convert to Christianity.

2. May 2024 – Converting Children Without Knowledge Of Parents

Missionaries reportedly targeted young, innocent children in the districts of Theni and Madurai in Tamil Nadu, attempting to convert them to Christianity without their parents’ knowledge by promoting the teachings of Jesus Christ. The Hindu Munnani effectively halted this activity.

3. August 2024 – Bibles Given To Govt School Students

Christian missionaries were distributing sweets and Bibles to schoolchildren near Perambalur Government Higher Secondary School and the District HQ Hospital. Hindu Munnani activists intervened, accusing the missionaries of attempting to lure children into conversion.

4. January 2025 – Mass Conversion Attempt At Tiruchuli

Christian missionaries reportedly conducted a door-to-door campaign in villages of Tiruchuli Union, including Kulasekaranallur, Konapanendal, Manjampatti, and Madathupatti, aiming for mass conversions. The Hindu Munnani intervened, halting the alleged conversion efforts.

5. February 2025 – 27 Missionaries Apprehended For Denigrating Hinduism

Hindu activists and local villagers in Thanjavur’s Peravurani apprehended over 27 Christian missionaries accused of spreading religious propaganda and denigrating Hinduism among students and the public at the gates of Peravurani Government School. They were subsequently handed over to the police for further action,

6. March 2025 – Christian Nun Enters Govt Hospital To Convert

A Christian nun allegedly visited the Tirunelveli Government Medical College Hospital, and attempted to convert patients by claiming that “Jesus will cure your illness.” The Hindu Munnani raised concerns and called for legal action against such activities.

7. July 2025 – Missionary Converts Narikuravars In Trichy

Christian missionary Vincent was reportedly proselytizing the Narikuravar, a semi-nomadic tribal community, in Madurapuri panchayat. Upon intervention by Hindu Munnani activists, the local police issued a warning to Vincent and advised him to leave the area.

8. July 2025 – Group Arrested For Funding Of Conversion Activities

Three individuals, including a man from Tamil Nadu, were arrested for allegedly funding a religious conversion ring associated with a Christian missionary group. The police suspect that they received financial assistance from abroad.

These are not isolated missteps but a systematic attempt to weaken cultural roots and engineer demographic change.

These conversions don’t just divide communities but break bonds within the family as well. Those who get converted don’t stop at following their new religion but also go on to force their ideology onto other members of the family and the community. And once a large community gets converted, the real native identity of an entire community gets erased.

Church Planting And Land Grab

Church planting has increasingly become a front for systematic land encroachment, cultural erasure, and demographic aggression. What begins with a makeshift cross or a small prayer hall on common or sacred land soon balloons into a sprawling church complex, complete with claims over surrounding areas. From forest hills and poromboke lands to temple pathways and water bodies, nothing has been spared. These encroachments are not accidental—they are part of a calculated expansionist strategy by certain evangelical groups, leaving behind a trail of communal friction and legal battles.

1. Vajragiri Hill Encroached

Large swathes of Vajragiri Hill near Chengalpattu, home to a 1,500-year-old Shiva temple, have been encroached upon by Christian missionaries, who have built a church, erected crosses, and painted “Long Live Mary” across the sacred site. Devotees have been obstructed from accessing the temple as ancient paths were blocked with barricades and rubbish. Despite repeated complaints, the Forest and Revenue Departments have failed to act, forcing locals to protest. With nearly 60 acres of forest and poromboke land under illegal occupation, Hindu Munnani has now petitioned the Supreme Court seeking eviction of the encroachers and restoration of the temple’s sanctity.

2. Pathirakaliamman Temple Vs CSI Church

A four-decade-long land dispute between the Pathirakaliamman Temple and a CSI church in Subramaniapuram, Vembar, escalated when members of both sides demolished a wall marking the boundary. The police booked 27 individuals under various sections, with the dispute recently settled in favor of the temple.

3. Cuddalore Devanathaswamy Temple Encroached

St. Joseph Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Cuddalore was found to have occupied land legally owned by the historic Devanathaswamy Temple for over five years, despite clear directives from the Madras High Court to vacate.

These are instance that highlight how they eat into Tamil Nadu’s hills, villages, and heritage—slowly redrawing boundaries not just on the map, but in the cultural soul of the state.

Hate Speech By Pastors

If grabbing land is how missionaries seize territory, then hate speech is how their pastors poison minds. Figures like Ezra Sargunam, Mohan C Lazarus, George Ponnaiah, and Bishop Sam Esudoss have made it their life’s mission to spit venom at Hindu gods, mock centuries-old traditions, and brand native culture as evil—all under the garb of preaching. This is not spirituality, it is a calculated campaign to humiliate and divide.

Mohan C Lazarus

Mohan C. Lazarus, the controversial Christian preacher behind Jesus Redeems, has repeatedly targeted Hinduism with hate speech. In 2018, he referred to Tamil Nadu temples as “in the clasp of Satan” and “habitats of devils,” and mocked Hindu deities, prompting FIRs under IPC Sections 153A and 295A from BJP and VHP functionaries. In 2021, the Madras High Court quashed criminal proceedings against him but warned that his extreme rhetoric could incite hatred, violence, and bloodshed, emphasizing that religious expression must not harm the rights or sentiments of others. In 2022, Lazarus publicly called other faiths “evil” and urged people to turn away from them, with journalists covering these statements receiving threats from his assistants.

Ezra Sargunam

Ezra Sargunam, the late founder of the Evangelical Church of India (ECI), was known for his provocative and often inflammatory remarks against Hinduism. His speeches and actions have sparked significant controversy and backlash over the years.

In a viral video, Sargunam called Hinduism “an artificial religion” created under British rule and urged followers to physically attack anyone defending it, saying they should be “punched until they bleed.” His statements drew widespread condemnation for inciting violence and threatening communal harmony.

Sargunam allegedly made derogatory remarks about the Vanniyar community during an event in Chennai. The Perambalur court summoned him in connection with these comments, which were deemed offensive and degrading

George Ponnaiah

Father George Ponnaiah, a Catholic priest in Tamil Nadu, was arrested for allegedly spreading hate and enmity between religious groups through his speeches

He said that the Tamil Nadu government provides us with free footwear so that we do not get rash or scabies from stepping on Bharat Mata, and that Bhuma Devi is a dangerous woman.

He warned Hindus saying, “We (minorities) were 42% once and now we are 62% of the total population in Kanya Kumari. Soon, our population will cross 70%. We will continue to increase our population and no one can stop it. We tell this as a warning to Hindus. We do not fear BJP or RSS. You cannot stop us.”

He further stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s and Home Minister Amit Shah’s final years will be miserable. “If the God we believe in is still alive, we shall watch Amit Shah and Modi being devoured by dogs and worms”, he had said.

Last Word

Will Joseph Vijay have the guts to call out the very forces that his own religion shelters? The real agents of division in Tamil Nadu are the missionaries and evangelists of his own faith—spreading hate, enforcing conversions, breaking families, and splitting communities. From Mohan Lazarus urging Hindus to be humiliated, to Ezra Sargunam inciting violence, and church-backed land grabs that swallow sacred hills, it is Vijay’s cult that undermines social harmony.

The recently concluded conference of actor-turned politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam in Madurai attempted to position him as the “next MGR“. If one thought this was a new direction he was taking at brand and image building, think again.

If we pause to take a look at the filmography of Vijay over the past decade or so, there is a recurring pattern – where he portrays himself as a saviour of the masses as well as political rhetoric where he is positioned as the only heir of MGR – for both his cinematic and political legacy.

Vijay tried to reiterate this at the conference in Madurai on 21 August 2025. The massive banner on the stage had 3 photos – Vijay flanked by Annadurai and MGR on both side.

Annadurai is not just a reference to him being rooted in the Dravidian ideology but also the year 1967, the year in which DMK came to power. MGR’s reference harks back to 1977, when the AIADMK-led alliance stormed to victory in the state elections. These two years have been references in Vijay’s political speeches and press releases saying that 2026 will be a repeat of what happened in 1967 and 1977.

However, a closer analysis of history, political acumen, and ground reality reveals a stark truth – Vijay is, and can only ever be, a pale imitation, a ‘wannabe’ who fundamentally
misunderstands the very legend he seeks to emulate.

Vijay Trying To Launch Himself As Political Hero: A Look At His Filmography From 2010

Sura (2010) – While this was a forgettable film for all kinds of reasons, Vijay plays a fisherman who fights against a corrupt politician trying to take over his village’s land. It has a saviour theme because he defends the livelihood of poor fishermen against exploitation. He makes indirect political statements, focusing on corruption and social justice.

Velayudham (2011) – He plays a common man who turns into a vigilante superhero to fight crime and corruption. In this, he is strongly portrayed as a protector of the people and the film is peppered with themes of justice and empowerment of the common man.

Thuppakki (2012) – Vijay plays an army officer battling terrorists to protect the city, a social protector guarding people and city from terrorism threats. The film highlights patriotism and national security.

Thalaivaa (2013) – Vijay plays a young man who enters politics to fight social injustice and corruption. The saviour/political hero theme is very strong; he becomes a political leader fighting for the oppressed. He makes explicit political statements with added elements of leadership, social reform, and grassroots empowerment. This is when he got belt treatment from Jayalalithaa for having the title Thalaivaa – Time To Lead. Vijay had to prostrate and submit himself in servitude at Kodanadu for this film to get released. This man submitted his self-respect just so that his film could get released and he has the audacity to talk about self-respect and being a slave today.

Kaththi (2014) – In this film, he plays dual roles with one being a social activist fighting for farmers’ rights. Given the theme, it shows him standing against corporate exploitation. He makes direct political statements on corporate greed, farmer issues, and social justice.

Theri (2016) – Vijay is a former cop protecting his daughter and fighting criminals. He portrays a savior of his family with broader social justice undertones. Some social themes around corruption, women and child safety and law enforcement. Again turns to vigilantism to uphold justice.

Mersal (2017) – Vijay plays triple roles, including a doctor fighting medical corruption. The saviour image is very strong in this one as he fights for the common man’s right to healthcare. His introduction scene has an MGR song playin. The father character is shown as a “Tamil” and he stirs that sentiment too. He made explicit political statements with critiques of government policies especially GST and healthcare corruption. In a notable and controversial scene, Vijay’s character Vetri addresses the media, questioning why Singapore, which levies only 7% GST, is able to provide free healthcare to its citizens, whereas India, which levies 28% GST, cannot. He also criticizes the high GST on medicines and points out inconsistencies such as the lack of GST on liquor.

Sarkar (2018) – Vijay plays a business tycoon who returns to vote and fights political corruption. The political critiques of this film resulted in a lot of controversy. The ruling AIADMK government accused it of attacking their welfare schemes, viewing the theme against freebie culture as a direct insult. Protests led to demanded cuts in scenes and dialogues. Additionally, a character portrayed as a corrupt politician was seen as a negative depiction of V.K. Sasikala, further intensifying political backlash and legal challenges.

Bigil (2019) – This film potrayed him as as an inspiration and champion of women’s empowerment. In this film also there are mnay MGR references through songs and mannerisms.

Master (2021) – Vijay plays a professor confronting a criminal exploiting children; he is shown as the protector of the vulnerable, advocating education and justice.

Leo (2023) – Vijay plays a fiery character with strong justice-driven motives. However, the film glorified violence – something MGR would have abhorred.

The Greatest of All Time (2024) – Vijay plays a Special ATS character but sadly the film seemed to promote drinking and smoking – MGR would be rolling in his grave!

MGR’s Political Legacy

MGR’s rise in Tamil Nadu was a product of decades of political struggle, not just cinematic popularity. He built his political career through grassroots engagement, navigating complex alliances, and demonstrating deep political acumen.

Multiple Election Battles And Real Political Work

The 1967 DMK victory was a grand alliance of forces, Swatantra Party (Rajaji), Communists, Forward Bloc, Muslim League, united under the powerful oratory and intellectual heft of C.N. Annadurai and a cadre of fierce leaders like Karunanidhi. MGR’s own 1977 victory came after 15 years of rigorous political apprenticeship within the DMK. He contested three key elections before becoming Chief Minister in 1977, demonstrating his resilience and political acumen.

Unlike a star persona relying purely on fame, MGR built his political career through grassroots engagement, understanding policy, and navigating complex political alliances. His split from the DMK was not just personal but ideological, which led to the formation of the AIADMK party that dramatically shifted Tamil Nadu politics.

MGR’s victory was facilitated by his ability to unite disparate political entities, including the Congress party and various social groups, under his leadership. His political success was a combination of calculated alliances, his charisma, and a genuine connection to the aspirations of the Tamil people. This strategic coalition-building showcased MGR’s statesman-like qualities and long-term vision.

MGR was deeply respected for his sincere dedication to the welfare of the people. His background reflected a true political passion, starting from being an actor, he used his popularity responsibly to build political capital, but his commitment to politics was unwavering. His leadership inspired loyalty and mass support, which were rooted in more than just his star power.

The Depth Of Political Experience

MGR’s politics was forged in the fiery debates of the Dravidian movement. He understood policy, administration, and the grit of political organizing. In stark contrast, Vijay’s party lacks any depth. It has no seasoned spokespersons, no clear policy framework beyond vague populism, and a core support base of fans who, when asked about policy, can only chant “Thalaivar” – quiz them on basic issues with the present government or what can be rectified – you’ll hear crickets. This encapsulates the intellectual vacuum at TVK’s core.

The Substance Of The Symbol

MGR’s popularity was undeniably built on his film image, but it was cemented by a perceived authenticity and a narrative of betrayal that resonated emotionally with the masses. When he broke from the DMK, he carried an aura of a wronged hero. Vijay, however, enters a fray where he is just one among many celebrities. His attempts to spark a similar emotional wave fall flat, as he is competing not just with established parties but with the legacies of Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, and other stars whose fans he has alienated.

Vijay’s Political Venture: A Contrasting Reality

While MGR was a hero to everyone in the state because he carried his charisma from the silver screen to the political arena, working for the people and gaining their trust over the decades, Vijay lacking in political experience aims for the CM chair with just one election and no groundwork done by him, on his own. As mentioned above, the voter base is primarily his teenager fans who are enamoured by his onscreen persona – they are still in that bubble that believes he will carry it to the ground.

Limited Political Experience and Organizational Strength

Unlike MGR, Vijay’s political journey is in its infancy. His influence largely comes from his cinematic fame rather than a robust political network or ideology. His party and movement lack veteran politicians, credible spokespersons, or policy experts to effectively translate popularity into political power. This nascent stage of political organization makes it difficult for Vijay to sustain serious political momentum.

Celebrity Versus Political Leader

Vijay’s attempt to portray himself as a savior or messiah can largely be seen in his movies mentioned above where he plays characters who fight injustice, corruption, and inequity. These saviour roles strongly echo MGR’s cinematic legacy of championing the underdog, but they remain within the realm of fiction rather than grounded political achievements.

Mismatch In Political Substance

While Vijay’s roles and speeches promote ideals of social justice and change, there remains a lack of clear political framework and policies behind his real-world political initiatives. His public messaging is fragmented, a copy-paste job, repeats like a broken tape in the recorder and occasionally sways between populist echoes and entertainment-driven rhetoric, which contrasts starkly with MGR’s cohesive political ideology and sustained governance record.

His political statements and moves often attract skepticism regarding his ability to navigate the realpolitik of Tamil Nadu’s fiercely competitive political stage. MGR stood for a strong Tamil Nadu, despite being of Malayali origin, he stood for Tamilians and equally patriotic. However, Vijay seems to be sowing seeds of hate and secessionism right at the infancy stage of his party.

The Insurmountable Hurdles: Why TVK Is Doomed to Fail

Let’s take a look at why TVK is bound to fail. A new party thrives on alliances. MGR had them. The BJP or other smaller parties would only ally with TVK if it could transfer votes. TVK has no leverage to demand seats because its actual vote share is a big unknown. It is a party with no bargaining power.

While there is a lot of hype at the moment, we are not sure how it will be once Vijay starts canvassing full time. Will the hype translate to votes? Only time will tell. Will the traditional DMK, ADMK, BJP voters shift base – unlikely. It is only likely that the fresh batch of first-time voters who will vote for TVK.

TVK’s votebank is scattered – it is that vote of the indecisive voter, a vote that is insufficient to win seats in a first-past-the-post system. His core vote is limited to a fraction of his film’s audience, which translates to maybe one lakh votes, that is basically, electorally insignificant.

The Imitation Game is Over

Vijay’s political project is based on a fundamental misreading of history. He sees MGR’s stardom but is blind to his three decades of political grinding, his strategic mind, and the unique historical moment he captured. Vijay possesses the celebrity but none of the substance. He has the ambition but none of the alliance-building skill. He has the fans but none of the broad-based coalition needed to win.

MGR was a political phenomenon who used his stardom as a tool. Vijay is a star pretending to be a politician, using politics as an extension of his brand. The Madurai conference, with its empty boasts and lack of concrete agenda, proved this. He can mimic the words and the poses, but he can never replicate the context, the struggle, or the genuine political capital that made MGR a legend. The throne of MGR remains occupied by his legacy, and Vijay’s attempt to claim it only reveals him as a pretender, forever in the shadow of the original.

On April 17, 2025, the president of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) took to X to celebrate a supposed “victory” in the Supreme Court regarding the Waqf (Amendment) Act. The only problem? The entire post is a colossal mess of falsehoods, inaccuracies, and delusions of grandeur that expose Vijay as a political novice who can’t even get his facts straight. Let’s break this down and see just how deep this rabbit hole of embarrassment goes.

Error #1: The Waqf (Amendment) Act You’re Opposing Is Of 2025, Not 2005

First off, Vijay proudly declares his gratitude to the Supreme Court for its ruling on the Waqf Amendment Act, which he claims is from 2005. Wrong. The Waqf (Amendment) Act in question was passed in 2025, as confirmed by multiple sources, including the Indian Lok Sabha records and Wikipedia. This isn’t just a “typo” as some of his die-hard fans might claim—it’s a fundamental error that shows Vijay doesn’t even know the basic timeline of the legislation he’s supposedly fighting against. For someone who’s trying to position himself as a serious political leader, this is beyond laughable. It’s as if he googled “Waqf Act,” saw the first date that popped up, and ran with it without a second thought. Is this the kind of leadership Tamil Nadu deserves? A man who can’t tell 2005 from 2025?

Error #2: Vijay’s Case Wasn’t Even Heard

Here’s where things get even more pathetic. Vijay’s post claims that the Supreme Court issued an order on TVK’s petition, halting key provisions of the Waqf (Amendment) Act. Newsflash, Vijay: your petition hasn’t even been heard yet! According to the Supreme Court’s own records, TVK’s petition (Diary Number 19435/2025) was filed on April 13, 2025, and is scheduled for a hearing on April 24, 2025—if it even makes the cut. The court has explicitly stated that only five petitions will be taken up, and there’s no guarantee yours will be one of them. The interim order Vijay is gloating about actually pertains to a different petition filed by Asaduddin Owaisi on April 4, 2025 (Diary Number 17837/2025). So, while Owaisi and others were actually in the ring fighting, Vijay was busy taking credit for a match he didn’t even show up for. How utterly shameless.

Error #3: Abhishek Singhvi Isn’t Your Advocate

Vijay goes on to thank Senior Counsel Dr. Abhishek Manu Singhvi for “arguing on behalf of our party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam for two days successfully.” This might sound impressive—except for the tiny detail that Singhvi isn’t even representing TVK. According to the Supreme Court’s records, TVK’s advocate is Sudarshan Lamba, not Singhvi. Singhvi might be involved in other petitions challenging the Waqf Act, but he’s certainly not Vijay’s knight in shining armor. This isn’t just a minor mix-up; it’s a blatant attempt to piggyback on someone else’s credibility to make TVK look more legitimate. Vijay, if you’re going to name-drop, at least make sure the person is actually on your team. Otherwise, you just look like a desperate wannabe trying to impress the grown-ups at the table.

‘Tharkuri Vijay Kazhagam’: Vijay’s Political Incompetence On Full Display

Let’s step back for a moment and consider what this fiasco reveals about Vijay as a political figure. Vijay can’t even get the year of a major piece of legislation right, can’t tell the difference between his own pending case and someone else’s victory, and can’t even correctly identify his own legal team. How do you justify a leader who can’t even fact-check a single tweet before hitting “post”?

Not The First Time His Tharkuriness Has Got Exposed

The two elephants in Vijay’s flag do not essentially look like Asian elephants but African elephants. Additionally,  the BSP’s Tamil Nadu branch has issued a warning demanding the immediate removal of the elephant imagery from Vijay’s flag. They have threatened to file a complaint with the Election Commission and pursue legal action if their demands are unmet.

The logo also features a pink flower, which is said to be the Vaagai flower (Siris tree/Albizia lebbeck).

However, the team seems to have mistaken the Monkeypod tree (Raintree/Samanea saman) flower for the original Vaagai flower. Soldiers wore garlands of Vaagai flowers after a victory during ancient times. Colloquially, the monkeypod tree is called ‘Thoongumoonji Maram’ which in Tamil translates to “Drowsy Face Tree”, as the tree’s leaves droop when the sunshine is less. Its bright pink flower resembles the white Vaagai flower.

His party anthem video were full of spelling mistakes in Tamil, with the party ironically being named “Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam”.

When he announced his party through a press release, many pointed out the grammatical error in the Tamil name of the party. It should’ve been Tamilaga Vettrik Kazhagam instead of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. He later rectified the mistake with the party’s general secretary approaching the ECI for name correction.

A Message To Vijay: Do Better Or Step Aside

Vijay, if you’re reading this—and let’s hope you are, because someone needs to knock some sense into you—here’s some advice: politics isn’t a movie set. You can’t just show up, deliver a heroic dialogue, and expect the audience to clap. If you’re serious about Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam and the people of Tamil Nadu, then stop embarrassing yourself with these childish blunders. Get your facts straight, surround yourself with advisors who actually know what they’re doing, and maybe—just maybe—think twice before you tweet. Because right now, the only thing you’re winning is the award for the most clueless political debutant of the year.

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), led by part-time politician Vijay, held its first general council meeting on March 28, 2025, in Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai.

During his brief 15-minute speech, Vijay attempted to conclude on a poetic note, quoting: “Before concluding my speech, a few words from William Blake… ‘Men may come, men may go, but I go on forever.'”

The problem? He misattributed the quote to William Blake, an English poet and painter.

However, the quote isn’t from William Blake at all—it’s a well-known refrain from Alfred Lord Tennyson’s poem The Brook.

What makes this blunder even more laughable is that Vijay is backed by not one but three political strategists: Jhon Arockiasamy, Prashant Kishor, and Aadhav Arjuna—the latter having once worked as a strategist for DMK and VCK before jumping ship to TVK.

A speech of this significance would have undoubtedly gone through multiple revisions by Vijay’s communications team, making such a basic factual error all the more ridiculous. Even a simple ‘Google’ or ‘ChatGPT’ would’ve given the quote attributed to the correct person.

Clearly, just like Dravidian Model ‘Appa’ MK Stalin, Vijay too just parrots dutifully whatever is handed to him.

In light of this, netizens have been roasting Vijay for his ignorance asking if TVK stands for “Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam” or “Tharkuri Vijay Kazhagam”.

Actor, part-time politician and founder of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, Vijay, is likely to contest from a constituency in the Ramanathapuram district during the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

Though the elections are still a year away, preparations are already underway. TVK has begun groundwork, including conducting multiple surveys across several constituencies to assess its prospects.

Sources within the party indicate that Vijay is considering Ramanathapuram due to its significant coastal and fishing community population.

The actor-politician has been vocal about issues affecting Tamil Nadu fishermen and has previously addressed public meetings highlighting their plight.

Notably, Vijay spoke out at a major rally in Nagapattinam against the frequent arrests of Tamil fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy for allegedly crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL).

During that address, he openly criticised both the ruling DMK government in the state and the NDA government at the Centre for their inaction.

A senior TVK leader, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said: “Vijay wants to be among the downtrodden and take up their cause as a politician. Ramanathapuram, being a coastal district constantly in the news due to the recurring arrests of fishermen, is a natural choice for him.”

The decision is also reportedly being shaped by election strategist Prashant Kishor, who is currently serving as an advisor to Vijay. Kishor was also present at the first anniversary celebrations of TVK held recently in Kancheepuram district.

TVK’s political symbolism was further established on August 22, 2024, when Vijay unveiled the party’s official flag and song at its headquarters in Panaiyur, Chennai. This was followed by the party’s first major political conference on October 27, 2024, in Vikravandi, Villupuram district. The event drew an estimated crowd of three lakh people. At the Vikravandi rally, Vijay delivered a fiery speech, launching scathing attacks on both the DMK and the BJP.

He labelled the DMK as his political adversary, and the BJP his ideological opponent. He accused the DMK of being a family-run party that exploits the Dravidian identity for personal gain, while also denouncing the BJP’s divisive agenda.

The DMK dismissed these allegations, claiming that Vijay was indirectly aiding the BJP. Senior DMK leaders even referred to TVK as the “C team” of the BJP in an attempt to downplay its political impact. It is noteworthy to mention that Prashant Kishor had previously worked for the DMK during the 2021 Assembly elections. Along with him, ‘Lottery’ Martin’s son-in-law Aadhav Arjuna who had also previously worked as a strategist for the DMK is now in Vijay’s TVK. With the entry of TVK, it is but natural for the anti-DMK votes to split which leads to the conclusion that TVK is the B-Team of DMK unless Vijay strikes an alliance with the AIADMK.

With momentum building, all eyes are now on TVK’s upcoming General Council meeting on March 28. Vijay is expected to unveil the party’s electoral roadmap and future plans for the 2026 Assembly.

Actor and part-time politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has once again landed in an embarrassing goof-up. But this time, it’s not just a minor typo—it’s a mistake that completely alters the meaning and intent of their message.

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, instead of saying “We Stand Against Women Harassment” or “We Stand For Women Safety” TVK members have put up a banner with the hashtag “#WeStandForWomenHarassement”—which, ironically, implies they support harassing women! To make matters worse, they’ve even misspelled harassment. This error-ridden banner was put up by the Vellore East unit of TVK.

This blunder comes from a party that aligns itself with Dravidianists, who proudly advocate for the two-language policy (Tamil and English) while claiming educational superiority over other states. Yet, such errors only expose the substandard education levels in Tamil Nadu, pointing to a deeper learning crisis.

Previous Instances Of Goof Ups

Vijay’s party seems to have a pattern of linguistic blunders. Even in the Flag Anthem video, multiple spelling errors were spotted.

For instance, in the Tamil word Sirusum, the video mistakenly used the ரு instead of று altering the correct spelling.

When Vijay initially announced his party through a press release, many pointed out a grammatical error in the party’s Tamil name—it should have been “Tamilaga Vettrik Kazhagam” instead of “Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam.” The mistake was later rectified when the party’s general secretary approached the Election Commission of India (ECI) for a formal name correction.
