The Kumbakonam police have filed a case against Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katch (VCK) functionary for harboring four rowdies who were being sought by the police in connection with an assault near the new bus stand.

Two weeks ago, Vishwa was riding his motorcycle near the new bus stand in Fathimapuram, within the jurisdiction of Kumbakonam West Police Station, suffered serious injuries in an assault by a group of four individuals. An investigation was promptly launched based on Vishwa’s complaint at Kumbakonam West Police Station. Authorities were actively pursuing four suspects in connection with the incident, Gail Antony, Arnold Antony, Arunkumar, and Paulsamy.

Meanwhile, confidential information indicated that Alex, the spouse of Kumbakonam Corporation 24th Ward Councilor Rubinsha and a VCK functionary, was harboring dangerous weapons in his residence. Subsequently, police sought a court warrant to conduct a search of Alex’s house.

Following court approval, more than 10 officers led by Police Inspector Jagatheesan from Kumbakonam West Police Station conducted a thorough search at Alex’s residence a few days ago. During the search, various weapons including knives, sickles, and iron rods were discovered under the bed in one of the bedrooms. These items were seized by the police, who continued their search. At that time, Gail Antony, Arnold Antony, Arun Kumar, and Paulsamy, wanted for attempted murder, were found hiding under the bed and were subsequently apprehended.

Popular Tamil YouTube channel A2D’s owner PcDOC Nanda Kumar faced a harrowing incident during daylight hours at Ritchie Street. While live streaming, he and his team were confronted by two intoxicated men who threatened them and attempted to steal their camera. The incident swiftly gained widespread attention on social media, sparking criticism.

The vlogger and his team were cornered near a parked autorickshaw, which was stocked with beer bottles, before the assailants (drunk autorickshaw drivers) made their move. The confrontation was captured live and quickly went viral online. In the video, the vlogger expressed deep distress and fear, vowing never to return to Ritchie Street and emphasizing the need to prevent such incidents.

It offers a diverse range of products, from electronics and robotics to LED lighting. However, this recent incident where vloggers were targeted in broad daylight and attempts were made to steal their cameras, have instilled fear among the public. This has prompted citizens to question the effectiveness of the Greater Chennai Police.

Responding to concerns raised on social media, the Greater Chennai Police confirmed they are actively pursuing a gang responsible for threatening video creators at Ritchie Street. While no formal complaint had been filed by the YouTubers, the police acknowledged the incident based on the circulating video and launched a search for the perpetrators.

On the same day (7 July 2024), the Greater Chennai Police detained a member of the gang involved in the viral threat against the YouTubers. The individual in custody has been identified as Gana Sridhar. A senior police official noted that despite the lack of an official complaint, the Chintadripet police took action based on the circulating video to apprehend Gana Sridhar, Parthiban and Kishore from Perambur.

A DMK officer bearer, who was recently suspended for his involvement in sand mining, has threatened to kill an ex-Panchayat Chairman in Trichy.

A few days back, DMK Manapparai East union secretary Arokiyasamy, who was arrested for sand mining, threatening a women Deputy Superintendent of Police, and abducting the seized vehicles from the police station, was released on bail minutes later.

After being released on bail, the suspended DMK office bearer has allegedly threatened to kill Kalingapatti ex-Panchayat Chairman from DMK, who was trying to take over the former’s post in the party. In this context, the audio of DMK senior executive from Kalingapatty and ex-Panchayat Chairman Ramasamy being intimidated by Arokyasamy has been circulating on social media.

In the leaked audio, the person believed to be Arokiyasamy said,” who are you to post a status about me on social media? My actions will be different. you won’t see the sun tomorrow. You won’t be able to take it if I show my strength. People are ready to slash your throat If I tell. you better be careful. I am ready to resign my post; If possible, stand for election and win.”

Arokiyasamy has been involved in illegal sand mining for the past ten years. His vehicles involved in illegal sand mining have been seized several times in the last few months. Also, there is a case registered on him for assaulting a lawyer. According to sources, the police plan to arrest him under the Goondas Act.

A case has been registered against the DMK district literary wing organizer who attacked a ration shop employee near Kamuthi in Ramanathapuram district.

Kumaraiya Kannaiya (52), who hails from Araikudi near Kamuthi, has been working as a salesman in ration shops in villages including Karungulam, Paakuvetti, and Jeganathapuram.

On Monday, he cleaned the Karungulam ration shop as they planned to distribute the second installment of the COVID relief fund of 2000 and groceries kit the following day.

Ayyanar, the Ramanathapuram DMK literary wing organizer and husband of Kamuthi Panchayat Union deputy chairman Chitra Devi, who was standing at the Karungulam bus stand at the time, called Kannaiya and questioned him why he had distributed ₹2000 rupees to the people at the ration shop.  He began assaulting Kannaiya after telling him that only DMK leaders could distribute COVID relief material.

The injured Kannaiya was admitted to the Kamuthi government hospital for treatment. Following a complaint lodged by Kannaiya at the Peraiyur police station, Police filed a case against DMK executive Ayyanar for preventing a civil servant from working and threatening to kill him.

In one such incident, an ‘Amma Unavagam’ located in J.J Nagar near Maduravoyal, Chennai was attacked by DMK goons. Men belonging to the DMK tore down the board with title ‘Amma Unavagam’ and also broke the pictures of the late AIADMK supremo.

They also went inside the kitchen and damaged utensils kept for cooking food. Vegetables were thrown away and strewn around as the workers in the kitchen watched the scene helplessly.

Since the incident came to light, the hashtag #அம்மாஉணவகம்காப்போம் (Let us save Amma Unavagam) has been trending on Twitter.

Amma Unavagam is popular eatery initiative started by late former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, where food is offered at subsidized rates. It has turned out to be a savior for many poor lower middle class people including working bachelors.

DMK’s MLA elect from Saidapet tweeted that action has been taken against those responsible for the act.
