While Joseph Vijay, like any other secular Dravidian Stockist has often targeted RSS as ‘communal’ and ‘divisive force’, its Swayamsevaks plunged to offer help to those affected in the stampede caused by TVK rally.

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in yet another instance has joined relief efforts in the aftermath of the tragic stampede in Karur, Tamil Nadu. They are assisting both the general public and the relatives of victims at the Karur Government Hospital, where emergency provisions like drinking water and food are being distributed to those affected.

On 27 September 2025, a devastating stampede occurred during a political rally organized by the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party, led by actor-turned-part-time-politician Vijay. The incident, which took place in Velusamypuram on the Karur–Erode highway, resulted in at least 40 fatalities and around 100 injuries, with the death toll possibly rising further.

The tragic event unfolded at approximately 7:40 PM when Vijay’s convoy, delayed by nearly six hours, arrived at the venue. The crowd, initially estimated at around 4,000, had swelled dramatically, reaching nearly 27,000 people, including supporters and fans. Many attendees, including children and women, had waited for hours in the intense heat, some without food or water, hoping to catch a glimpse of the actor.

Supporters of TVK formed convoys around Vijay’s campaign vehicle, effectively blocking road access and contributing to traffic congestion. As the vehicle approached the venue, the crowd began pushing forward toward the stage barricades, leading to a deadly crush.

The stampede was triggered near a shed that housed a generator and a television broadcast van, where people became trapped and trampled. The absence of buffer zones and poor crowd management worsened the situation. Security personnel and volunteers struggled to control the crowd, and ambulances faced delays due to blocked roads. Volunteers eventually created human chains to help evacuate the injured. Several people fainted due to heat and pressure, and children were reported missing in the chaos.

During the turmoil, Vijay paused his address to provide water and appealed for help in locating missing children. Eyewitnesses and survivors blamed the disaster on inadequate planning, poor security presence, and a failure in crowd control measures.

Initial reports suggested about 10 deaths, but the number soon rose to 40, including 10 children, 17 women, and 13 men. Over 80 individuals were hospitalized with injuries ranging from fractures to suffocation. Hospitals in Karur and nearby districts received the injured.

In response, emergency services were swiftly mobilized. Around 44 doctors from Salem and Tiruchirappalli were dispatched to Karur, and helpline numbers were set up by the district administration to help families locate missing persons. Political leaders at both state and national levels expressed their condolences, and compensation packages were announced for the victims’ families.

The Tamil Nadu government appointed retired High Court judge Justice Aruna Jagadeesan to head a one-person commission of inquiry into the incident, aiming to uncover the causes and assign accountability.

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat on 28 August 2025 dismissed the perception that the Sangh dictates the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) decisions, stressing that the party is independent in running the government and conducting its own affairs.

Speaking on Day 3 of the ‘RSS Centenary Lecture Series – 100 Years of Sangh’s Journey: New Horizons’ at Vigyan Bhavan in Delhi, Bhagwat underlined that the RSS “only offers suggestions” but never interferes in the BJP’s decision-making process. “This is completely wrong. This cannot happen,” Bhagwat said, responding to a question on whether “everything in BJP is managed and arranged by the Sangh.” Drawing a comparison, he remarked, “I have been running the Shakha for 50 years. If someone gives me a suggestion, I will listen. But the party is running the country. They are experts in that. We (RSS) are not.”

He added that while the RSS can advise, the final call always rests with the BJP leadership. In a pointed remark on delays in the BJP’s internal elections, including the selection of its next party president, Bhagwat quipped: “If we were deciding everything, would it have taken so much time? They should take their own time.” On the Sangh’s broader relationship with government, Bhagwat said the organisation coordinates well with both central and state administrations, irrespective of political party. However, he flagged structural challenges, noting that India’s governance system, largely inherited from the British, has “internal contradictions.” “Even if the man in the chair is 100 per cent for us, he has to work through hurdles. He may succeed or he may not. We give him independence. There is no quarrel anywhere,” he explained.

Addressing examples of friction, Bhagwat cited differences between trade unions, small-scale industry bodies, and the government, stressing that such contradictions are natural. “Our swayamsevaks work honestly. We allow experiments, and if results are good, everyone accepts,” he said. Bhagwat reiterated that the Sangh and the BJP “trust each other” but differences on issues are natural. “We are not at loggerheads. We are trying to extract the truth, which includes struggle, but it does not mean quarrel.”

On 20 April 2025, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat, during his ongoing visit to Aligarh, emphasized the need for greater social unity within the Hindu community by advocating the principle of “one temple, one well, and one cremation ground” for all, aiming to reduce caste-based divisions.

As part of his five-day tour, Bhagwat addressed swayamsevaks at two shakhas held at HB Inter College and Panchan Nagri Park. He underscored that genuine social cohesion is vital for India to fulfill its role as a beacon of peace on the global stage.

Citing RSS sources, Bhagwat stressed the importance of sanskar—cultural and moral values—as the cornerstone of Hindu society. He encouraged swayamsevaks to embrace these values and foster a sense of inclusivity by engaging with all sections of society and inviting them into their homes to promote grassroots unity.

He also reiterated the role of the family as the foundational unit of society, stating that strong family bonds stem from shared values. Additionally, he urged the collective celebration of festivals as a way to nurture both national pride and societal harmony.

Bhagwat’s visit, which began on 17 April, includes daily interactions with RSS pracharaks from the Braj region. The trip is part of the Sangh’s larger preparations for its 100th anniversary celebrations, which will commence on Vijayadashami later this year.

Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan has firmly denied the false claims circulated by Sun News, the official mouthpiece of the DMK. The news outlet falsely reported that he stated during a recent book launch event, “Tamil Nadu was created by the British. No Tamil has created Tamil Nadu.” This incident highlights how legacy media in Tamil Nadu selectively crafts narratives against the opposition, using misleading wordplay to manipulate public perception and portray the BJP in a negative light.

On 22 March 2025, the Sun News posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) page, claiming that Maharashtra Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan had stated, “Tamil Nadu was created by the British” during a speech. The post was accompanied by a news card that quoted him as saying, “Tamil Nadu was created by the British. No Tamil created Tamil Nadu. When Jainism emerged, two-thirds of Tamils followed it. Today, only 40,000 Tamil Jains remain,” Maharashtra Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan said at the launch of a book on Hedgewar in Mumbai.”

This post, generated by the ruling DMK’s media outlet, was quickly picked up and amplified by Dravidianist media, spreading across the state without any verification of its authenticity. In response, Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan officially dismissed the claim as fake news through his official X account.

What Did Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan Say?

Contrary to the misinformation circulated about Maharashtra Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan’s remarks at a book launch on 22 March 2025, he addressed concerns about separatist forces in Tamil Nadu and Punjab, emphasizing the ongoing relevance of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) founder Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar’s vision of unity and national integration.

Speaking at the launch of Hedgewar – A Definitive Biography by British-Indian author Sachin Nandha at Raj Bhavan in Mumbai, Governor Radhakrishnan underscored the importance of preserving India’s unity against divisive narratives. He recalled his long-standing association with the RSS, particularly its contributions in Tamil Nadu, and dismissed claims that India was a creation of British rule, asserting that the country had been historically united long before colonial intervention.

“In Punjab, separatist efforts take one form, but in Tamil Nadu, words are used as weapons to mislead young minds,” he noted. He argued against the notion that India was shaped solely by the British, referencing historical unity under leaders like Emperor Ashoka. “While British rule may have politically defined India, we were functionally and culturally united long before that,” he stated.

Reflecting on Tamil Nadu’s past, he pointed out that the region had been divided among Chera, Chola, Pandya, and Kongunadu kingdoms. He also mentioned the historical spread of Jainism and Buddhism in the region, explaining that Tamil Nadu was politically consolidated under British rule rather than by any single Tamil leader. “If we keep dividing ourselves, we might reach a point where traveling between towns requires passports,” he remarked, warning of the dangers of excessive regionalism.

He further highlighted the risks of fragmentation in India, drawing parallels with Maharashtra, where regions like Vidarbha, Konkan, and Marathwada have distinct identities. “If we continue down this path, who will have the bargaining power on the global stage? Our strength lies in our unity,” he asserted.

The Governor also reflected on his early years in the RSS, recalling how Dr. Hedgewar began the organization with a small group of schoolboys, defying skepticism. “People doubted whether these young boys could build a Hindu Rashtra, but today, the RSS stands as one of the largest nationalist organizations, shaping individuals dedicated to society and the nation,” he said.

He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership style to the RSS’s influence, quoting the Prime Minister’s acknowledgment of how the organization instilled a spirit of service. “Dr. Hedgewar always emphasized pride in our culture and our motherland. Loving one’s mother is natural, but love for the motherland should be just as strong,” he added.

Governor Radhakrishnan praised the timing of the book’s release, stating that Dr. Hedgewar’s legacy continues to inspire millions as India progresses on the global stage. He noted that the centenary of the RSS makes Hedgewar’s philosophy even more significant in contemporary India.

Author Sachin Nandha described the book as a deep exploration of India’s civilizational ethos, examining Hedgewar’s role in shaping modern nationalism. He discussed the founder’s interactions with prominent leaders like Gandhi, Nehru, and Savarkar, as well as his efforts to reform Hindu society from within. “This book is more than just a biography—it’s a study of how a transformative idea moved from the margins to the center of Indian politics,” Nandha explained.

In one chapter, titled The Godfather, Nandha portrays the RSS as an organization of resilience and influence, capable of mobilizing people and shaping societal change. “Hedgewar inadvertently became the godfather of a movement that continues to define India’s socio-political landscape,” he wrote.

The author clarified that the book does not present Hedgewar as either a saint or a villain but as a visionary whose ideas evolved over time. “It’s a story of struggle, growth, and the power of ideas. Most importantly, it’s an account of how a worthy vision transforms from the periphery to the mainstream,” he concluded.

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has called upon the United Nations and global organisations to pressure the Bangladesh government to halt “violence” against Hindus in the South-Asian country. At the Akhil Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha (ABPS), the RSS passed a resolution over the plight of Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh.

The resolution called upon different countries and global organisations to raise their voice in solidarity with Hindu and other minorities in Bangladesh. The ABPS is of the view that it is incumbent on international organisations like the UN and the global community to take serious note of “inhumane treatment” meted out to Hindus and other minority communities in Bangladesh and pressure it to put a halt to these violent activities.

“The ABPS expresses its serious concern on the unabated and planned violence, injustice and opposition faced by the Hindu and other minority communities at the hands of radical Islamist elements in Bangladesh. This is a serious violation of human rights,” the RSS said. The ABPS also called upon the Hindu community and leaders from different countries and international organisations to raise their voice in solidarity with the Hindu and other minority communities in Bangladesh, the RSS said.

“During the recent regime change in Bangladesh, several incidents of attacks on mutts, temples, Durgapuja mandals and educational institutions, desecration of deities, barbaric killings, looting of properties, abduction and molestation of women and forcible conversions are being continuously reported. To deny the religious angle of these incidents by claiming them to be only political is negation of truth as scores of victims of such incidents belong to Hindu and other minority communities only,” the resolution emphasised. It further stated, “The persecution of Hindus and other minority communities, especially scheduled castes and scheduled tribes in Bangladesh at the hands of Islamist elements is nothing new. The continuous decline of the Hindu population in Bangladesh from 22 per cent in 1951 to 7.95 per cent today, indicates the existential crisis for them.”

“However, the governmental and institutional support for the violence and hatred witnessed during last year is a serious cause of concern. Along with this, the persistent anti-Bharat rhetoric in Bangladesh can severely damage the relationship between the two countries,” the RSS underlined.

Despite numerous debunking and even the Supreme Court rebuke forcing an apology from political figures like Congress scion Rahul Gandhi for spreading the false claim that “An RSS member killed Gandhi,” some leftist Dravidianists continue to perpetuate this misinformation. Jumping on this bandwagon is leftist film director Karu Palaniappan, known for promoting Dravidianist ideologies through fabricated narratives, repeating this discredited claim of RSS involvement in the assassination of Gandhi at a book festival in Tiruppur.

Palaniappan, who attended the event as a special guest, asserted that EV Ramasamy Naicker wanted India to be effectively renamed “Gandhi Nadu” after an RSS member assassinated Gandhi. His comments sparked strong protests, particularly from Tiruppur RSS leader Mohana Sundaram, which led to a scuffle at the event. The altercation intensified as Hindu organizations, including RSS, Hindu Munnani, and the BJP, gathered to demand action after the alleged attack on Sundaram. The incident disrupted the book festival, which is part of a larger initiative to promote reading across districts, and attracted a large crowd at the Velan Hotel complex in Tiruppur, where the event is taking place until 2 February 2025.

The tension escalated further as the opposing groups clashed, leading to a dharna organized by the protesting Hindu groups. Prominent figures such as Kadeswara Subramaniam from Hindu Munnani and Senthil Vel, district BJP president, joined the protests, calling for the arrest of those responsible for the attack on Sundaram. Despite police efforts to calm the situation, the dispute remained unresolved, and a formal complaint has been filed, with investigations currently underway.

This is not the first time Dravidianists and Leftists like Palaniappan have falsely claimed that an RSS member assassinated Gandhi. In the past, leaders such as VCK chief Thirumavalavan and deputy general secretary Vanni Arasu have spread the same baseless narrative, particularly during times when Hindu groups were gaining prominence or when the image of Dravidian icon E.V. Ramasamy Naicker was under scrutiny. These statements are often used strategically by Dravidianists and Periyarists to provoke Hindu activists by spreading controversial and false narratives, with the intent of stoking tensions and later portraying them as instigators of violence.

Gandhi’s Assassination Conspiracy

There is clear evidence of a systematic campaign to malign the RSS regarding Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination, despite no legal evidence connecting the organization to the crime. The RSS opposed the anarchist tactics of Nathuram Godse and Narayan Apte, the assassins of Gandhi, as well as their followers. Despite the court’s acquittal of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar in the case, the narrative pushed by certain groups continues to link him to the assassination conspiracy falsely. Congress, Leftists, and Dravidianists have persisted in wrongly accusing the RSS of involvement in a crime its members had no part in.

Before the Partition, Nathuram Godse, a member of the Hindu Mahasabha, was highly critical of Savarkar and other senior leaders like Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee, B.S. Munje, and L.N. Bhopatkar. He opposed their passive stance on Gandhi and the Congress, focusing more on internal conflicts within the Hindu Mahasabha than any conspiracy.

While Nathuram Godse was responsible for assassinating Gandhi on 30 January 1948, there is no credible evidence linking the RSS to the crime. Godse shot Gandhi three times at close range. Despite repeated, misleading claims that would be worthy of Joseph Goebbels’ propaganda tactics, no evidence has been presented to connect the RSS as an organization to the assassination.

Goebbels famously said, “Propaganda works best when those being manipulated are confident they are acting on their own free will.” This is exactly the type of manipulation used against the RSS in the aftermath of Gandhi’s assassination to distort public perception.

A similar narrative was propagated by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who later apologized in the Supreme Court, clarifying that he had never accused the RSS as an institution for Gandhi’s assassination. In 2014, Rahul Gandhi reiterated his position in the Bombay High Court, stating he had only referred to individuals associated with the RSS, not the organization.

In his affidavit, Rahul Gandhi explained his remarks, saying that while the philosophy of those associated with the RSS was destructive, he had never blamed the organization itself for the assassination. He also clarified his comments about Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, stating that Patel had been critical of the RSS.

In his statement to the Supreme Court, Rahul Gandhi explained that the RSS’s actions had consistently pursued a majoritarian agenda. Still, he did not accuse the institution of being directly responsible for the assassination. His statement led to the court asking RSS activist Rajesh Kunte if he was satisfied with Gandhi’s clarification. Kunte, the complainant, indicated that he was satisfied, and the matter was set to conclude.

Captain SP Kutty, born D Raman, was a man whose life embodied courage, resilience, and unwavering dedication to his faith and nation. From his early days as an Indian Army officer to his later years as a guiding force in Tamil Nadu’s Hindu renaissance, he lived with a singular mission: to serve India and uphold the values of Dharma. Personal sacrifices, relentless advocacy for Hindu cultural preservation, and a profound belief in the power of knowledge to uplift communities shaped his journey. He passed away on 26 November 2024.

Kutty, a humble yet fierce leader, inspired thousands through his oratory, writings, and grassroots activism. Whether it was through organizing shakhas for the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), delivering fiery speeches at local temples, or translating the Bhagavad Gita into Tamil, he worked tirelessly to strengthen the spiritual and cultural foundation of his community. His life was a testament to the idea that true leadership is rooted not in titles, but in selfless service and unwavering commitment to truth.

Early Life And Military Service

In 1964, fresh out of engineering school, Kutty rejected familial pressure to convert to Christianity, choosing instead to serve India by joining the Indian Army. During the 1965 war, he was stationed in Punjab, where he contributed as an engineer in defense of the nation. While he was away, however, his family back in Tamil Nadu faced relentless proselytizing efforts, with many converting to Christianity. This personal experience ignited a lifelong commitment to preserving Hindu culture and traditions.

Awakening To The Bhagavad Gita

Kutty’s spiritual journey began when a relative dismissed the Bhagavad Gita as a divisive text. This spurred him to explore the Gita, initially encountering obstacles due to caste discrimination. Undeterred, he studied the text under Swami Mathurananda Maharaj and other mentors, ultimately mastering its teachings. His dedication transformed him into a leading proponent of Hindu intellectualism, determined to make the Gita accessible to all, regardless of caste.

Social And Cultural Leadership

Kutty’s contributions extended beyond personal enlightenment. Along with his wife Rohinibai, he established numerous shakhas (branches) of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in Tamil Nadu and organized religious classes for women and children. Together, they created a vibrant grassroots movement, culminating in the Hindu Dharma Vidhya Peetham, which provided a platform for Hindus to reconnect with their spiritual heritage.

Literary Contributions And Activism

An accomplished author, Kutty wrote extensively, including the influential serialized novel When Shall We See Our Sindhu Again?, inspired by the trauma of partition and the resilience of the Hindu community. His works, including commentaries on the Bhagavad Gita and analyses of the Kashmir conflict, cemented his reputation as a Dharmic warrior. He tirelessly countered missionary propaganda, distributing literature that empowered Hindus to defend their faith.

Trials And Triumphs

Kutty’s activism often put him in the crosshairs of opposition. He survived multiple assassination attempts, particularly during the 1982 Mandaikadu riots, where his unwavering courage inspired the Hindu community to stand firm. Despite constant threats, he remained dedicated to his cause, advocating for both spiritual strength and intellectual rigor within the Hindu community.

Legacy Of Service

Captain S.P. Kutty lived by the principles of the Bhagavad Gita, embodying the essence of a Karma Yogi. He was a relentless advocate for equality, challenging caste-based discrimination even within the organizations he supported. His home, aptly named “Charaiveti” (Keep Moving), symbolized his lifelong journey of service. His death marked the end of an era, but his legacy continues to inspire generations committed to the preservation of India’s cultural and spiritual heritage.

In the words of his admirers, Captain Kutty was not just a soldier of the battlefield but a soldier of Dharma—a beacon of light in the struggle for cultural and national identity.

What made Kutty remarkable was not just his commitment to his beliefs, but the warmth and humility with which he lived them. He was a soldier not only in the army but also in the larger battle for cultural revival, a man who faced both personal trials and societal challenges with the same steady determination. Whether standing firm against conversion efforts that divided his own family, or teaching the Bhagavad Gita to those denied its wisdom due to caste, Kutty’s life was a testament to the power of one individual’s resolve to make a difference.

DMK MP Kanimozhi launched a fierce criticism of the BJP and RSS, pledging to establish a “BJP and RSS-free Bharat” during an event organized by the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) on 14 October 2024. She condemned the BJP and its ideological counterpart, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), for promoting “hate politics.”

Kanimozhi, the sister of DMK Chief and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, did not hold back in her remarks, accusing these organizations of fostering division and animosity across the nation. “We will create a BJP and RSS-free Bharat,” she declared to an enthusiastic crowd. She further stated, “I want to tell the BJP in Tamil Nadu that they have no place here, as demonstrated in the last elections,” referencing the substantial losses the BJP faced in both the 2021 state assembly elections and the 2024 general elections.

The gathering, attended by senior Congress leaders and allies, aimed to denounce the divisive strategies allegedly promoted by the BJP and RSS. Kanimozhi highlighted the opposition’s resolve to combat these forces, characterizing the BJP and RSS as entities fixated on power and willing to exploit religion for political ends. “They are planting the seeds of hatred every day, and we must work tirelessly to uproot them,” she stressed, emphasizing the importance of ongoing efforts to challenge their ideology.

She heaped praise on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, calling him the only “fearless person” who is standing up to the BJP and RSS. According to Kanimozhi, Gandhi’s “Bharat Jodo Yatra” exemplifies love-based politics as a counter to what she described as the “hate politics” of the BJP-RSS. “If there is a fearless person today, it is Rahul Gandhi. He is spreading love to counter the hate politics of both BJP and RSS in the country,” she stated.

During her address, Kanimozhi criticized the BJP’s approach to religious politics, claiming they are insincere in their representation of Hinduism. “Those on this stage advocate for harmony-based politics. The BJP and RSS lack genuine faith; it’s all about securing votes,” she asserted. She highlighted that the DMK, influenced by E.V. Ramasamy, honors all religions and stands for social justice. “We uphold Periyar’s principles of social justice and are prepared to defend them,” she said, portraying the DMK as a secular and egalitarian force.

Kanimozhi also targeted the BJP’s opposition to practices like beef consumption, calling it another instance of their “hollow” and “fake” politics. She criticized the party for leveraging religion for political advantage, stating, “They oppose beef eating, but their motivations are purely political.”

In a pointed challenge to the RSS and BJP, she questioned their contributions to Hinduism: “What have they done for Hindus over the years? Can they provide any evidence to support their claims?” This highlighted the disparity between the BJP’s religious rhetoric and their actions.

Kanimozhi recounted an incident involving Rahul Gandhi and former Union Minister Anurag Singh Thakur, who allegedly insulted Gandhi by calling him a “casteless person” after he called for a caste census. Initially perplexed by the remark, she later recognized it as an insult but praised Gandhi’s response, remarking, “When I heard Rahul say, ‘Yes, I am casteless,’ I was unsure whether I was hearing a Congressman or a follower of Periyar.”

The Thoothukudi MP also commented on last year’s controversy surrounding the G20 summit dinner invitations, which referred to the “President of Bharat” instead of the “President of India.” At that time, Kanimozhi questioned whether the RSS was behind the initiative to rename the country, criticizing it as politically motivated. “Is the RSS dictating the agenda for the entire nation? Why has the name ‘Bharat’ suddenly come into play? What is the underlying motive?” she inquired.

Her remarks come amid speculation that she may feel sidelined within the DMK’s internal power structure. There are rumors suggesting her discontent with her nephew, Udhayanidhi Stalin, being appointed as Deputy Chief Minister a role she might have desired. As she appears to be shifting her focus to national politics, some view her outspoken opposition to the BJP as a strategic move to garner support within the opposition alliance and enhance her political profile. However, critics argue that she lacks the clout to sway DMK legislators or challenge Udhayanidhi’s rising prominence in the party.

On 12 October 2024, the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) marked its 100th Foundation Day during the Vijayadasami Utsav. Dr. Mohan Bhagwat, RSS Sarsanghchalak, delivered a keynote address to Swayamsewaks at Reshim Bagh in Nagpur, with Padma Bhushan awardee and former ISRO chairman Dr. K. Radhakrishnan serving as the chief guest.

In his Vijayadasami address, the RSS Sarsanghchalak highlighted that certain global powers, whose interests may be threatened by India’s growth, seek to limit the country’s progress. He pointed out that nations claiming to be liberal and democratic often prioritize their own security and self-interest, disregarding their commitments to peace regarding their own agendas. “The deliberate attempts to tarnish India’s image through lies and half-truths are increasingly evident,” he stated.

Dr Bhagwat expressed particular concern over recent violence against Hindus in Bangladesh, noting that while local factors contributed to the situation, the broader context involves ongoing brutalities against the Hindu community. He emphasized the need for solidarity and support from the global Hindu community. He warned of the implications of illegal immigration from Bangladesh, which poses threats to national security and societal harmony.

He urged the Hindu minority in Bangladesh to seek assistance from those advocating for compassion and harmony, stressing that disorganization and weakness can invite further atrocities. Dr Bhagwat also mentioned troubling discussions in Bangladesh about aligning with Pakistan as a counter to India, highlighting external influences attempting to manipulate narratives against India.

Addressing contemporary challenges, he described terms like “Deep State,” “Wokeism,” and “Cultural Marxism” as threats to cultural traditions. He warned that these ideologies aim to undermine societal values and create divisions by fostering victimhood and distrust, ultimately leading to societal chaos. He said, “Words like ‘Deep State’, ‘Wokeism’, ‘Cultural Marxist’ are in discussion these days. In fact, they are the declared enemies of all cultural traditions. Complete destruction of values, traditions and whatever is considered virtuous and auspicious is a part of the modus operandi of this group. The first step of this modus operandi is to bring the mind-shaping systems and institutions of the society under one’s influence – for example, the education system and educational institutions, media, intellectual discourse, etc., and to destroy the thoughts, values and belief of the society through them. In a society living together, an identity-based group is motivated to separate on the basis of its actual or artificially created specialty, demand, need or a problem. A feeling of victimhood is created in them. By fanning discontent, that element is pulled apart from the rest of the society, and made aggressive against the system. Direct conflicts are created by finding fault lines in the society. An atmosphere of anarchy and fear is created by intensifying distrust and hatred towards the system, laws, governance, administration etc. This makes it easy to establish one’s dominance over that country.”

Dr. Bhagwat cautioned against political competition driven by self-interest rather than national unity, asserting that such dynamics could facilitate destructive agendas. He noted the potential dangers of prioritizing petty interests over the collective harmony and integrity of the nation, drawing parallels with destabilizing events in other countries.

He concluded by emphasizing the importance of cultural unity and the need for a proactive, awakened society to counteract these threats. A strong discourse rooted in India’s cultural heritage and constitutional principles is essential to safeguard against the rising tide of intellectual and cultural pollution.

In an unusual decision, the AIADMK has chosen to relieve MLA and senior member Thalavai N Sundaram from all party positions, citing a violation of party bylaws. General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami made this announcement on 8 October 2024. This move underscores the AIADMK’s submission to pressure from its rival, the ruling DMK, and is seen as another hasty reaction to sustain its identity as a Dravidian party.

Thalavai N Sundaram has been suspended from his roles as the AIADMK’s organizing secretary and Kanniyakumari East district secretary. This decision follows his participation in a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) rally in Kanniyakumari just two days prior.

Since the AIADMK severed ties with the BJP in September 2023, General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami has repeatedly emphasized that the party will not collaborate with the BJP in the future, including during the 2026 Assembly elections. Sundaram’s involvement in the RSS rally may have been perceived as damaging to the party’s image.

While Palaniswami’s suspension announcement did not specify the reasons, he indicated that Sundaram’s actions were contrary to party principles. As an inquiry is needed, Sundaram has been temporarily relieved of all party positions.

In response to the suspension, Sundaram stated that he attended the rally solely as an MLA and did not breach any principles.

This development occurs amidst concerns about the AIADMK’s weakening position, particularly in Tamil Nadu’s southern districts. BJP State Convenor H. Raja welcomed Sundaram, suggesting he might consider joining the BJP.

Sundaram has a long history with the AIADMK, having been elected as an MLA from Kanniyakumari in 2001. He also served as a Rajya Sabha member from April 1996 to May 2002. He held various ministerial roles in J. Jayalalithaa’s cabinet from 2001 to 2006, covering key areas such as revenue and public works. Although he was dropped from the cabinet in December 2002 and relieved of his organizing secretary duties in December 2011, he was later appointed Kanniyakumari East secretary in July 2014. He returned to the Assembly by winning his seat again in the 2021 elections.
