Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat today participated in the centenary celebrations of the Perur Aatheenam and the RSS organization held at the historic Perur Aatheenam Math in Coimbatore. Former AIADMK minister S.P. Velumani, along with his brother Anbarasan and Hindu Makkal Katchi leader Arjun Sampath, were also present at the event.

Apart from these leaders, Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party leaders such as TN BJP chief Nainar Nagendran, Mahila Morcha President and Coimbatore MLA Vanathi Srinivasan, and K Annamalai were also present.

Sarsanghachalak Mohan Bhagwat visited the Perur Aatheenam where he took part in a special puja ahead of the centenary functions.

The traditional Shiva Velvi Puja was conducted between 6:00 and 7:15 AM, following which abhishekam  was performed to the main Shivalinga at the temple.

Shanthalinga Marudachala Adikalar of the Perur Aatheenam, along with Kumaragurupara Swamigal of Siravai Aatheenam, briefed reporters on the significance of the event a few days ago. They noted that the celebrations commemorated the 100th birth anniversary of Shanthalinga Ramasamy Aatheenam, the 24th Guru Mahasannidhanam, who played a pivotal role in reviving Tamil Saiva traditions and empowering marginalized communities through religious outreach.

The saints emphasized the cultural and social importance of the event, citing Ramasamy Adigalar’s work in education, public health, and religious inclusion. They stated that the participation of RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat underscored a shared commitment to cultural preservation and national values.

The event concluded with a public meeting open to devotees and residents, where Bhagwat remained present till 11:00 AM.

In a post on his X handle, former TN BJP chief Annamalai wrote, “This morning, a traditional Shivavelvi Pooja was held at the Coimbatore Perur Adheenam. Following this, I had the privilege of participating in the centenary celebration of the Perur Adheenam’s 24th Guru Mahasannidhanam, Thavathiru Shanthalinga Ramasamy Adigalar, and the @RSSorg organization, and I am delighted by this opportunity. Thayvathiru Shanthalinga Ramasamy Adigalar is someone who cherished Saivism and Tamil as two eyes. He excellently carried out works in education, society, medicine, tradition, and culture. Setting a new low for themselves, Periyarist groups included the names of Hindu Saivite seers belonging to Perur Adheenam and Siravai Adheenam in the guest speakers list for an online event by deceiving them.

An invitation for an online event titled ‘Tamil Nadu Festival – Online Arise Event’ was getting circulated on social media in which the names of Perur Adheenam Thava Thiru Maruthachala Adigalar and Siravai Adheenam Thava Thiru Kumaraguru Adigalar were included as part of the guest speakers list.

Many devotees were taken aback on seeing the invitation carrying the names of Perur and Siravai Adheenams.

The Adheenams in Tamil Nadu are Saivite Mutts where Lord Shiva is worshipped and the philosophy of Saiva Siddhanta is professed.

This online event being organized by the Periyar Unarvalargal Kootamaipu (Periyar Sympathizers Federation) comes as a follow up to the release of a new ‘Tamil Nadu flag’ by the group.

A few days back fringe elements like May 17 movement leader Thirumurugan Gandhi, Deputy President of Dravida Kazhagam (DK) Kali Poongundran (original name Kaliamurthy Naidu) and other members belonging to Tamil Nationalist and Periyarist groups released a new flag for Tamil Nadu.

The flag has a white background with the map of present day Tamil Nadu in red colour.

Speaking to reporters at the launch event, Thirumurugan Gandhi said that they would be hoisting the flags in different places across Tamil Nadu on November 1. He said that everybody irrespective caste, religion and parties should come forward and accept the flag. He mentioned that if cricket teams and caste outfits can have flag why not a flag for Tamil Nadu.

He also said that they would be presenting the flag to the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and along with an appeal to declare November 1 a state holiday.

Kali Poongundran said that the flag needs to be taken amongst the youngsters and that there is a need to ‘assert’ the Tamil identity.

In light of this, an online event titled “Tamil Nadu Festival – Online Arise Event” is being organized by the Periyar Unarvalargal Kootamaipu (Periyar Sympathizers Federation) on October 29, 30 and 31 through Zoom video conferencing.

Fringe elements like Thirumurugan Gandhi, Kolathur Mani (founder of Dravidar Viduthalai Kazhagam), film director Karu Pazhaniappan, Dravida Kazhagam President K. Veeramani and other members who attack Hindu religion are the guest speakers.

In this invitation the names of Perur Adheenam Maruthachala Adigalar and Siravai Adheenam Kumaraguru Adigalar were also found to be printed coming as a shock to many Hindus and the Adheenam devotees.

Clarifying the matter, Thava Thiru Maruthachala Adigalar of the Perur Adheenam said that he was not told about the details of other speakers and that a person known to Perur Adheenam and Siravai Adheenam had approached him for speaking at an event titled ‘Tamil Nadu Festival’.

He also said that both the Adheenams had decided to not participate after coming to know of the true nature of the event and the details of other speakers.

Srinivasan Subramaniam, State President of Vishwa Hindu Parishad North Tamil Nadu, said that this lowly act of trying to bring disrepute to the Adheenams by the anti-national gangs in the name of ‘Tamil’ is highly condemnable.
