Dravidian sympathiser and archaeologist K. Amarnath Ramakrishna has once again drawn severe criticism from Tamil scholars and historians after attempting to rewrite well-established history of ‘Kanchipuram’. In his latest controversial claim, Ramakrishna asserted that Kanchipuram, a city revered in Sangam literature and celebrated in ancient Tamil poetry was not a Sangam-era city. Instead, he labeled it a later Vedic and Buddhist settlement, pushing yet another narrative to please the Dravidian ideological ecosystem.

His comments were made during a lecture titled “Excavated and Unexcavated” at the centenary symposium on the Indus Valley Civilization, organized by the Tamil Nadu Progressive Writers and Artists Association a group notorious for pushing Dravidianist interpretations of history and the same outfit that hosted a conference with Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin under the provocative banner, “Eradicate Sanatana Dharma.”

Ramakrishna cited the University of Madras’ excavations at Kanchipuram (1975–1982), claiming that their full report was never published. Referring to Professor Gurumoorthy’s study, he pointed out the absence of Black and Red Ware pottery at the site, a common archaeological marker of Sangam-era settlements. According to Ramakrishna, this absence proves Kanchipuram was not a Sangam city, but a later development celebrated by “Vedic people” as Ghatikasthanam, or a center for Vedic learning. He further claimed that excavations near the Kamakshi Amman Temple uncovered a Buddhist stupa conveniently framing the city as primarily Buddhist, thus aligning with the Dravidianist disdain for Hindu heritage.

Speaking at the conference Amarnath Ramakrishna said, “If you look at the place called Kanchipuram, the University of Madras continuously excavated the site for almost seven years, from 1975 to 1982. But does anyone know what information about Kanchipuram was revealed? Does anyone know what they excavated? Only a handful of information, maybe a para, has emerged, but the full report has not yet been released. The complete excavation report for Kanchipuram has not been published by the University of Madras. No one has ever asked for it. Professor Gurumoorthy, who was part of that excavation team, wrote a book called Ceramic Traditions of South India. In that book, he specifically notes that while Black and Red Ware pottery sherds are found in many parts of India, from the Indus Valley Civilization onwards, and are prevalent in Tamil Nadu, they were not found in Kanchipuram. This is a crucial piece of information.

This significant finding suggests that Kanchipuram is not a city from the Sangam period but a later development. This is why Vedic people celebrate it, because Kanchipuram is referred to as Ghatikasthanam. Ghatikasthanam means a place where a school for Vedic traditions was established. The excavations also suggest that the city of Kanchipuram was built at a later time. If you consider the old Chengalpattu district around Kanchipuram, wherever excavations have been carried out, evidence of Black and Red Ware pottery sherds and megalithic burials are found. However, the Kanchipuram excavations revealed that not a single piece of Black and Red Ware pottery was found. This is a note made by Professor Gurumoorthy. Our history is incomplete because such important information remains unreleased. Similarly, Kanchipuram is also a Buddhist city. The trench for the excavation was dug near the Kamakshi Amman Temple. At that site, a Buddhist stupa was unearthed, indicating that a Buddhist stupa existed in Tamil Nadu and the temple was built on top of it. The excavation report has not properly released information about the site of the Buddhist stupa. Because the report has not been published, this information has not been widely disseminated.”

This narrative, however, has been roundly rejected by credible Tamil historians and scholars who accuse Ramakrishna of bending facts to fit ideological agendas. Critics argue that his theory not only ignores substantial literary evidence but also misrepresents the very nature of the Sangam period which was deeply intertwined with Vedic culture.

Take, for instance, the Sangam classic Perumpāṇāṟṟuppaṭai, which explicitly mentions Kanchipuram and its ruler Thondaiman Ilanthiraiyan, “Onnath Tholvar Ulayvidathu Aarthu Kachiyona Kaivan Thondral,” (ஒன்னாத் தெவ்வர் உலைவிடத்து ஆர்த்துக் கச்சியோனே கைவண் தோன்றல்) which translates to, “He who ruled from Kanchipuram roared in triumph when enemies dared defy him.”

The poem goes on to explain how the city got its name from the abundance of Kanchi trees and refers to it as a “moodhoor”  an ancient, prosperous city known for its festivals and cultural richness. These references make it indisputably clear that Kanchipuram was already a flourishing urban center during the Sangam era long before any Buddhist influence.

Even more telling is the poem that describes Karikala Chola, one of the most iconic kings of the Sangam age, halting at Kanchipuram’s Kamakshi temple to offer worship on his expedition to the Himalayas, “Kachi Valaikachi kaamakotangaval mechiyinithirikum meichathan kaichendu kamba kalitraan karikaalperuvalathaan sempon girithiritha sendu” (கச்சி வளைக்கைச்சி காமகோட்டங்காவல் மெச்சியினிதிருக்கும் மெய்ச்சாத்தன் கைச்செண்டு கம்ப களிற்றான் கரிகாற்பெருவளத்தான் செம்பொன் கிரிதிரித்த செண்டு) which translates to, “In Kanchi, at Kamakottam where Kamakshi adorned with bangles dwells, Karikala Chola worshipped her. With the sacred staff of Sastha in hand, he struck the golden peaks of the Himalayas.”

This verse alone shatters Ramakrishna’s attempt to write Kamakshi and Kanchipuram out of the Sangam-era spiritual landscape. It confirms both the temple’s existence and the continuity of goddess worship in the region, directly contradicting the idea that the site was primarily Buddhist.

Additionally, Perumpanatrupadai also praises the Thiruvehka Vishnu Temple, calling it the resting place of Mahavishnu on Adisesha further evidence that Kanchipuram was a vibrant hub of Vedic and Sanatana culture long before the period Ramakrishna suggests, “Kaandhal am silambil kaliru padinthaangu paambanai pali amarnthen aangan,” (காந்தள் அம் சிலம்பில் களிறு படிந்தாங்கு, பாம்பணைப் பள்ளி அமர்ந்தோன் ஆங்கண்) which translates to, “Just as an elephant rests peacefully in the mountain, the one who reclines on the serpent bed (Vishnu) rests there.”

Ramakrishna’s selective quoting, suppression of literary sources, and reliance on unpublished or partial excavation data has led many to accuse him of being less of a scholar and more of a mouthpiece for political propaganda. His eagerness to label everything “non-Vedic” or “Buddhist” while dismissing Tamil Hindu heritage reflects a broader agenda one that seeks to erase or reframe history to fit a Dravidianist narrative.

In trying to paint Kanchipuram as a non-Sangam, non-Hindu city, Ramakrishna isn’t just wrong he’s actively undermining centuries of Tamil history, literature, and identity. And all for what? To gain applause from a political ecosystem that thrives on historical distortion and selective memory.

On 19 September 2025, a large rally was held in the city, organized by a coalition of groups, including, Dravidianist film personalities, and Islamist outfits to demand an end to Israel’s ongoing war against the Palestinian.

The protest, which took place on Langs Garden Road in Pudupet, saw the participation of over 5,000 individuals, including leaders such as Thol. Thirumavalavan, the head of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, M.H. Jawahirullah, president of the Manithaneya Makkal Katchi, Dehlan Baqavi of the Socialist Democratic Party of India, rabid Separatist Thirumurugan Gandhi, the coordinator of the May 17 Movement, and  Dravidianist personalities like Sathyaraj and Prakash Raj, as well as director Ameer and Vetrimaran.

While addressing the rally, Dravidianist actor Prakash Raj stirred controversy by holding Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi partly accountable for the violence in Palestine. He stated that the crisis was not solely Israel’s doing, but also the result of support from the United States and the silence of leaders like Modi.

Prakash Raj said, “Why are you artists coming here? If speaking against an injustice is politics, then we will speak politics. There is a poem, this war will end, all the leaders will hand shake and leave, but the truth is that there is a mother waiting for his son, a woman waiting for her husband, children waiting for their father. We do not know who sold this nation and land. But we know who paid the price for it. This is what will happen if we remain silent. There is an answer for them who ask why do artist like you talk like this. A poet who says that if I do not want politics in my poetry, I want to hear the sound of birds. If I want to hear the sound of birds, the sound of warplanes must stop. The rain is coming. Finally, I will say a word and speak. What I, all of us, have to say to this world is that even if it is a wound to our individual body, our silence will heal it. But if I remain silent and do nothing for a wounded nation, it will be more of an injury to a country and humanity. Therefore, before we die… we should not die. Let us fight. This voice will be heard. This is not only Israel’s fault but also America’s which supports it, and also Modi, who remains silent, is also responsible. This is not only Israel’s fault, but also the responsibility of the United States, which supports it, and Modi, who remains silent. Everyone who chooses to stay silent is also responsible. “

Speaking at the protest, DMK stooge Sathyaraj said, “The massacre happening in Gaza is unbearable to watch. How can they go and drop bombs with such a lack of humanity? When you see those children dying, how can the person who attacks Gaza sleep peacefully? Does he have no humanity? They say man evolved from apes, but these people haven’t become full human beings; they stopped halfway. That’s why they have this kind of mindset. The world nations must stop this; the UN must make a decision. Every time a community fights for its freedom, this is how genocide happens. This is how our Tamil brothers, who strived for the Tamil community to flourish in Sri Lanka, were brutally killed. Not just the fighters, but innocent people too were killed. Here too, in the name of war, Israel is planning to wipe out an entire community. The USA is aiding and abetting it.

Similarly speaking at the protest, Dravidianist director Vetrimaran said, “I believe it is the responsibility of every one of us, as an artist and as a human being, to stand in support of people wherever they are being oppressed and wherever they are being killed by oppression. On that basis, what is happening in Palestine is a planned, century-long, systematic genocide. Knowing that civilians and children are taking refuge in schools and hospitals there, they are throwing bombs. For hundreds of years, they have been destroying hundreds of acres of olive trees that are a source of livelihood for them.

However, the duplicity of the Islamo-Dravidianists were evident. Those who now vocally condemn Israel’s actions were silent when Hamas and other Palestinian militant groups launched a large-scale attack on Israel on 7 October 2023 an assault that marked the beginning of the latest round of violence often referred to as the “Gaza War” or “Israel-Hamas conflict.”

The same individuals failed to speak up during major domestic tragedies, such as the Kallakurichi hooch incident, where 69 people lost their lives, and the illicit liquor deaths in Ekkiarkuppam, Marakkanam, which claimed 14 lives. Additionally, there was minimal reaction to the custodial death of Ajith Kumar and the honor killing of Dalit techie Kavin. The only notable exception was Thirumavalavan, who condemned the honor killing but avoided criticizing his political ally, the DMK.

The vacation bench of the Madras High Court on 21 May 2025, comprising Justice G.R. Swaminathan and Justice V. Lakshminarayan issued an interim stay on the Tamil Nadu government’s amendments that removed the Governor’s authority to appoint Vice-Chancellors to state-run universities. The ruling came as a setback to the DMK-led government and triggered a wave of backlash from the Dravidianist ecosystem.

A deeply troubling pattern, a coordinated outburst on social media platforms, largely from self-identified Dravidianists and Periyarist sympathizers (followers of anti-Hindu demagogue EV Ramasamy Naicker), including party cadres and activists. Instead of engaging with the legal reasoning behind the judgment, the outrage targeted the personal identities of the judges—especially their caste backgrounds.

The vitriol was particularly directed at Justices Swaminathan and Lakshminarayan, with Dravidianist media highlighting them as Brahmins with their traditional appearance, such as wearing vibuthi or kungumam. This trend of highlighting a judge’s caste—especially when rulings go against the DMK—has been repeatedly observed in certain sections of Tamil Nadu media and social commentary.

One prominent example is Puthiya Thalaimurai, a media outlet known for its DMK leanings. While it typically avoids mentioning judges’ names in routine cases, it prominently displayed the names and photos of the judges in this particular instance when ideological or political interests are at stake.

This episode has raised serious concerns about how social media and sections of the mainstream media are being used to target sitting judges, undermining the judiciary’s independence and fueling identity-based hostility.

Below are some notable examples of social media posts from Dravidianist and Periyarist accounts targeting the judges in question.

M. Mathivathani, Deputy General Secretary of Dravidar Kazhagam, invoked the words of E.V. Ramasamy Naicker, to mock the judgment, implying that when Brahmins preside over the courts, rulings tend to reflect such biases. She stated “A country where the Paapan (derogatory slur denoting Brahmins) becomes the judge and the ruler is like a jungle inhabited by a ferocious tiger. That is why we are engaged in a tiger hunt. When the tiger leaps, one or two people are bound to get hit! – Thanthai Periyar”

Another Periyarist named Varavanaisenthil remarked that the timing of the verdict—delivered by Brahmin judges—was the “right moment” to instill anti-Brahmin sentiment among the younger generation. He said, “There is no need to worry too much about the stay of the verdict. The Supreme Court will definitely slipper them. But for the younger generation, this will be an event that shows to what extent Brahminism will go to protect its power even in this era. Since the aftermath of the Indian government’s retaliation, certain Periyarists and Dravidians in Tamil Nadu have shamelessly been spreading either fake news or promoting the idea of peace, despite Pakistan being the sponsor and harbor of terrorism on its soil—especially in light of the horrific Pahalgam massacre of 2025. These Pakistani terror sympathizers refuse to acknowledge India’s military capabilities and are quick to back anti-India propaganda. They have now latched onto the tweets of former U.S. President Donald Trump, who claimed to have mediated peace talks between India and Pakistan, a statement that contradicts Pakistan’s DGMO, who had called for a ceasefire against India. These anti-national Periyarist and Dravidianist factions are more interested in undermining India than accepting the truth or facts.

In this context, the Periyarist figure “Sundaravalli” posted an AI-generated image on her social media account, depicting Pakistan’s Prime Minister kneeling before Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Modi kneeling before U.S. President Trump. This was clearly an anti-India rhetoric on her official X account under the title “The Truth and Shadow,” which has since faced severe criticism.

This was not the first instance of such behavior. Shortly after the Indian armed forces’ retaliation, Dravidian stockist Sundaravalli, in a now-deleted post, sparked widespread outrage by floating a wild conspiracy theory. The Dravidar Kazhagam activist and self-proclaimed Periyarist suggested that the recent terror attack in Pahalgam was not carried out by Islamist terrorists, as widely believed, but was allegedly orchestrated by the Indian Army in collusion with the BJP.

In her inflammatory statement, Sundaravalli claimed, “Those who came as tourists and took off their clothes to see if they were Muslims were in military uniforms. This further confirms suspicions about the BJP. Since a non-BJP opposition party is in power there, we also need to see if the BJP is conspiring with the army.”

But she didn’t stop there. In another outrageous remark, she alleged, “Those who shot and killed tourists in Kashmir after checking if they were Muslims were dressed in military uniforms, carried guns, and have placed the blame on Muslims. The BJP has done this before, using the army.”

She attached pictures of an Indian Army soldier and the newly married tourist whose husband had been shot dead by the terrorists.

Social media is outraged by videos displaying abusive and objectifying comments from Dravidian sex doctor Kantharaj. Although he portrays himself as a political analyst, his commentaries have been peddling hate against Brahmins and Hinds while attacking opposition parties like the BJP and AIADMK. His recent statements have crossed the Lakshmana Rekha, as he defends the sexual harassment faced by women in the film industry, claiming they willingly participated in the ‘casting couch’ and are now exaggerating claims.

Controversial journalist turned YouTuber Mukthar Ahmed, previously known for his role at Sathiyam News, introduced Dravidian ideologue Sex Doctor Kantharaj on his program as the brother of former Tamil Nadu Speaker Rajaram Mohan. Without any delay, the interview quickly turned towards inappropriate and double-entendre remarks.

Mukthar Ahmed started by asking, “Have you heard of ‘Adjustment’?” Dr. Kantharaj responded that he was indeed familiar with the term. Mukthar then asked if he had been approached for an adjustment, to which Kantharaj replied that it wasn’t necessary as the matter was settled by mutual consent; thus, no adjustment was needed. Mukthar countered, questioning whether this was not wrong, and Kantharaj suggested that Mukthar’s criticism stemmed from his lack of opportunity.

Dr. Kantharaj said, “It’s all part of life; is this an issue? It’s like the saying, ‘The stork that waits patiently at the sluice head leaves the small sprats alone and waits for the larger fish.’ We weren’t like that stork; we pursued the small sprats until the larger fish arrived.” When the anchor responded, noting that Dr. Kantharaj’s public statements would likely attract criticism from virtual commentators, Dr. Kantharaj drew parallels to the recent allegations made by actresses in the Tamil film industry about sexual harassment. He questioned whether he should withhold sharing his own experiences of physical enjoyment.

Dr Kantharaj ridiculed the allegations made by Tamil actresses with a lack of respect, stating, “They are claiming after 30 years that they have been ruined (sexually abused).” Mukthar added fuel to the discussion, saying, “Yes, look at that.” Dr. Kantharaj responded, “So, shall I not claim that 30 years ago, I also ruined some?” Mukthar interjected, “All are filled out.” Dr. Kantharaj replied, “Yes, all are expired.” Mukthar continued, “Now they are speaking up.” To which Dr Kantharaj retorted, “All these rusty goods are now sitting and claiming they have been abused. Is this even a topic? I find it laughable.”

Kantharaj then challenged the media, questioning why they had branded all the male actors as lustful animals and passed judgment on them for posting their pictures but had not shown the actresses who claimed in a similar light. Shamelessly, he remarked that the medical profession also has its own “adjustments,” comparable to those in the film industry, suggesting that the nature of adjustments in both fields is similar.

Dr. Kantharaj also mocked the film actresses who had voiced their experiences of sexual harassment. He claimed that their allegations of being asked to “adjust” were not instances of sexual harassment but rather reinterpreted the abuse in a more favourable light.

Shamelessly, Dr. Kantharaj made two statements that demeaned the victims who came forward. He said, “You share bed and get paid for it, only to don a chastity mask later. What’s fair in that?” He further suggested that actresses who now complain of sexual harassment are merely trying to regain their market value.

Targeting women in the film industry, he added, “She will act in films, become famous, and once her market value diminishes, she sits at home and claims she was sexually harassed.” Dr. Kantharaj continued to belittle the actresses, suggesting that if their names were not on the list of those who had been abused, they would feel less validated and claim that they, too, had been abused.

Throughout these comments, Mukthar Ahmed, the anchor, also equally provoked Kantharaj with his inflammatory remarks, expressing personal satisfaction as he shared his unfiltered views. One of his statements reduced women to mere objects of desire, “If you like a woman, only if you ask for it, you will get it, right,” He continued by suggesting that women should not question a man if he objectifies them or views them negatively, asking, “If it is wrong to ask means?” and He later added, “In such a vast cinema industry, only four have approached, while the others were virtuous.”

They both fabricated conspiracy theories, like erotic tales, suggesting that foreign shoots were also for “adjustments” and that hotel rooms used by them had hidden doors. Dr. Kantharaj claimed that actresses entering the film industry must comply with various “adjustments” related to the “casting couch.” It’s important to highlight that the term “casting couch” refers to the practice of soliciting sexual favours from job applicants in exchange for employment, particularly in the entertainment industry, specifically for acting roles.

They both implied to the audience that after actresses had performed glamorous roles and exposed their bodies, it was unjust for them to claim sexual harassment now. They questioned the fairness of this situation. Dr Kantharaj asked, “Why are you shooting a rain-drenching scene in a white dress? Only to show the body, right? In a bathing scene in the river, when she comes out of the river the body will be transparent.”

They also targeted actress Shakeela, pointing out that she had acted in adult films in the past and was now complaining about sexual harassment in the industry, which they deemed unfair. Additionally, they criticized MGR and Shivaji, with Dr. Kantharaj specifically targeting MGR. He claimed that MGR had included the most explicit content in his films, yet all the women voted for him and actresses performed glamorous roles in his movies, surpassing Shivaji’s fame in acting.

Dr Kantharaj claimed that men go to the cinema to satisfy themselves by watching the actresses on screen, whom they view as more attractive than their spouses. He argued that the difference between a sex worker and an actress is that while sex workers are considered inferior, actresses are seen as superior and are treated as leaders. Using the term “leader,” Mukthar targeted former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa, demeaning her by referencing her glamorous roles.

At the end of the video, it became apparent that their previous statements had crossed the line. They then subtly recounted various Hindu myths and interpretations, attempting to simp backup from Periyarists and Dravidianists for their earlier derogatory remarks, which objectified women and indulged in satisfying themselves.

Then, Dr. Kantharaj presents Vishwamitra’s story, highlighting how, despite his rigorous penance, he fell in love with Menaka and fathered a child with her. This union is depicted in the world-famous painting by Raja Ravi Varma. Additionally, the story of Sabarimala Ayyappan is mentioned, with the claim that he was born from a homosexual union. The Tamil New Year, celebrated in April, is framed as a celebration of homosexuality, allegedly initiated by Vishnu and Naratha, who are said to have given birth to 60 babies.

Regarding Diwali, the tale of Satyabhama killing Narakasura is cited as its origin. Narakasura, according to this account, was the son of Satyabhama and Lord Krishna. However, since Satyabhama and Krishna had no children, the question arises, Who was Narakasura’s true father? Then peddled the narrative Dravidianist perspective, that the symbolism associated with Vinayakar (Ganesha) has roots in Buddhism.

One notable aspect common to both the host, Mukthar Ahmed, and the guest, Dr. Kantharaj, was their subtle criticism of actresses with opposing viewpoints. For instance, they specifically targets former chief ministers MGR and J. Jayalalitha from the AIADMK in this video, as well as actresses Kasthuri and Radhika Sarath Kumar, who support the BJP. In the video, actress Kasthuri wasn’t actually mentioned, but her glamorous image was later deliberately added to the YouTube banner to target and demean her.

Radhika Sarath Kumar was targeted in a different video on another YouTube channel, following her and her husband’s recent merger of their party with the BJP.

He also spread gossip about DMK loyalists, including actor Suriya’s wife, Jyothika. It seems that Dr. Kantharaj is more busy on spreading abusive gossip about women rather than political analysis.

On 13 September 2024, Actress Rohini Molleti has filed a criminal complaint with the City Police Commissioner’s office  against Dr. Kantharaj, accusing him of making inappropriate and insulting remarks about actresses, suggesting that they had to “adjust” to obtain roles in the Tamil film industry during a recent YouTube interview.

Dr. Kantharaj’s comments, which appeared on the YouTube channel MyIndia 24×7, have sparked significant outrage on social media. In the interview hosted by controversial anchor Mukthar Ahmed, Kantharaj allegedly made vulgar statements suggesting that actresses in the Tamil film industry had to “adjust” to secure roles, which Rohini Molleti condemns as demoralizing to women in the industry.

In her complaint, Rohini has requested legal action against Dr. Kantharaj and the removal of the video from YouTube. She argues that his remarks, made in an interview about the casting couch issue in Kollywood, are offensive and unfounded. Rohini pointed out that Kantharaj disparaged living and deceased actresses, including Manju and Shakila, without providing any evidence. She accuses Kantharaj of using sensationalist tactics to gain social media attention while disparaging the entire film industry.

Meanwhile, social media users pointed out that if YouTuber Savukku Shankar was arrested for his provocative speech and YouTuber Felix Gerald was held accountable for facilitating his remarks, both involving demeaning comments about women police personnel, then similar action should be taken against the abusive Dr. Kantharaj and the false journalist Mukthar Ahmed for their obscene comments about women.

It is noteworthy that Mukthar Ahmed is a Dravidian ‘journalist’ with ties to the DMK’s top leadership.

In a 2022 interview, the same Kantharaj made genocidal comments on Tamil Brahmins. He had said, “You better go to your own country. Go there. Only you (Tamil Brahmins) were thrashed there by Chengiz Khan and Taimur. You came here whimpering.”

In another interview, Kantharaj discusses India’s 1983 World Cup win and, desperate to insert the Brahmin connection, erroneously states that Tendulkar is an Iyengar.

The recent Teacher’s Day celebration at the Government Girls’ School in Ashok Nagar, Chennai, sparked controversy when the motivational speaker invited for the occasion quoted Thirukkural and discussed Hindu philosophies such as karma, rebirth, and past lives. This provoked strong reactions from Periyarist and Dravidianist groups, leading to severe criticism of Tamil Nadu DMK Minister Anbil Mahesh on social media.

In response to the backlash, Minister Anbil Mahesh swiftly initiated an inquiry. He ordered the transfer of the school’s headmistress, which was notably quicker than the government’s response to caste conflicts in other parts of the state. Chief Minister MK Stalin, currently on a tour in the US, addressed the issue via his X handle. He announced plans to develop and implement new guidelines for regulating school programs in Tamil Nadu. These guidelines aim to ensure that all students receive progressive and scientific education. Stalin emphasized the importance of fostering individual growth, ethical living, and sound ideas for social development in students. He reiterated his commitment to promoting scientific thinking: “Science is the path to progress.”

This has sparked significant backlash, as critics argue that the DMK is only targeting issues related to Hinduism while permitting other activities to continue unchecked in schools. Netizens have reacted by sharing old videos of an MLA making fear-mongering statements about suicide and a Christian pastor claiming to have incorporated advocacy for Christianity into the social sciences curriculum. Additionally, there are videos promoting atheism in schools that have also gone viral.

In one of the videos, Virugambakkam DMK MLA Prabhakara Raja is seen delivering a fear-mongering speech to school students about NEET-related suicides while promoting the DMK’s anti-NEET agenda and instilling fear among the students.  He said, “You know how many died of suicide because of NEET? You know who died by suicide first? it was Anitha, do you know how many marks she obtained? she got centum in Biology, Maths but she couldn’t become a doctor and her cutoff was 196 marks. Rights of such students must not be grabbed right? how many of you want NEET? hence on behalf of DMK  we are getting signatures from schools and colleges you have to speak to your friends circles too, only if we gather more signatures central governmnet will feel there is no need for NEET. We are doing it perfectly online without using papers.”  They questioned whether conducting spiritual discussions in schools is considered wrong, while preaching about suicidal thoughts is deemed acceptable.

In another video, a man is seen spreading blantant lies about the Supreme Court’s verdict on the Ayodhya Ram temple land dispute case. He claimed that the court’s decision was based on religious belief rather than evidence, and was making these assertions in front of government school students. He stated, “Have you ever heard of someone being born from the head? Think about it, is it possible? Can someone be born from the legs? It’s all imagination that we believe in and we are made to believe in it. But that belief eventually becomes like a reality, and this is happening in our society. An important judgment has been released, yes it’s the Ayodhya case judgement. What’s the judgment? There was already a Babur mosque, with all claiming that the place where Ram was born, was standing the mosque. Hence, to build a temple, on 6 December 1992, the Babur mosque was demolished. Then there was a case regarding who the land belonged to, and today the judgment was delivered that the land belonged to Ram. How does the land belong to Ram means, the court stated that there has been a belief for a long time that Ram was born there, and in the belief of one, another cannot be interrupted. That’s it, it’s that simple in our country. The court haven’t asked that if there is any evidence.. no, it had asked, but they could not provide any, because where there hospitals, anyone oversaw deliveries, or anything, what was there?”

The incident happened in 2019 when the AIADMK was in power.

In another viral video, controversial Christian catholic priest Joe Arun is seen openly admitting at a Loyola College conclave that he had incorporated Jesuit ideas into the Tamil Nadu state syllabus while serving on the curriculum setting council. He claimed these ideas were included in social science subjects from classes 1 through 12.

Joe Arun said, “The state government of Tamil Nadu asked me to revise the syllabus from first standard to twelfth standard social sciences syllabuses. I was one of the mentors who decided. If you go and see today’s first standard students’ social science notebook, plenty of Jesuit ideologies are injected into it. Nobody knows. More and more Majlis and all are inserted there. You will see only pictures in the first standard students (book), it’s my idea. I told these people that if a Theni teacher teaches geography, she first has to take the sand of Theni and ask what this sand is before studying wetlands.”

It is to be noted that Joe Arun was part of the textbook committee when the AIADMK was in power. However, this Rev. Fr. C. Joe Arun, SJ, has recently been appointed as the Chairman of the Tamil Nadu State Minorities Commission.

During the examination held on 13 July 2024, TNPSC included a question that states, “Who is certified as, “Socrates of South Asia” by UNESCO a unit organisation of United Nation?” perpetuating the propaganda endorsed by DMK and other Dravidianist organizations, aiming to portray E.V. Ramasamy Naicker (EVR) as an international leader. Despite repeatedly debunking this falsehood, with UNESCO itself making a statement that no such award was given to EVR, TNPSC persists in promoting it.

For over 40 years, this falsehood has been propagated through numerous articles and research papers about E.V. Ramasamy Naicker (Periyar). Despite their claims of upholding facts, neither the media nor the so-called intellectual circles have ever addressed this blatant misinformation.

In February 2021, a petition was submitted to the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court calling for the removal of a misleading statement from Tamil Nadu school textbooks. The claim falsely stated that UNESCO gave Periyar the title of ‘Socrates of Southeast Asia’, which is factually inaccurate.

The Court directed the relevant textbook committees to review and take necessary action within 12 weeks. The petitioner, advocate Muhammad Razvi, highlighted that several Class 9 and college textbooks published by the Tamil Nadu government wrongfully credited this title to Periyar. He also stressed that India is not part of UNESCO’s recognized Southeast Asian countries, further disproving the claim.

It seems that anyone can influence students with various ideologies and misinformation, but if someone teaches ethical values from Thirukkural, the DMK government will respond by transferring them and creating issues out of it.

Professor Sundaravalli, a Periyarist who identifies as a student of Ambedkar, EVR, and Marxism, has ignited controversy by attacking the reputation of GR Swaminathan, a sitting judge of the Madras High Court. She has been accused of depicting his judgments as biased and aligning with the RSS, even labelling him a “Sanghi” on her YouTube channel.

Recently, after the NTK criticized a song that mocked former DMK chief Karunanidhi, a series of complaints were filed with the Avadi and Pattabiram police. These complaints have led to charges being brought against Seeman under the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act lodged on 30 and 31 August 2024, including sections 353 of the BNS and sections 3(1)(r) and 3(1)(s) of the SC/ST Act alleging that Seeman used a casteist slur during one of his rallies in the lead-up to the Vikravandi by-poll in July.

In a recent video on her YouTube channel, Sundaravalli criticized NTK chief Seeman but did not stop there. She crossed the line by attacking Justice GR Swaminathan, a Madras High Court sitting judge. Sundaravalli alleged that Justice Swaminathan is affiliated with the RSS and accused him of delivering biased judgments in favour of the BJP, even labelling him a “Sanghi.” She also claimed that the judge’s handling of the Tanjore student suicide case disparaged Christians and ridiculed their community. She says many of his judgments align with RSS and BJP interests. Sundaravalli further suggested that Justice Swaminathan’s praise of Sattai Duraimurugan was part of a scheme orchestrated by Seeman to influence the judge through RSS connections.

Sundaravalli commented, “When Sattai Duraimurugan was arrested and remanded over the song ‘Kala thanam konda Karunanidhi,’ Swaminathan, the honest judge said he shouldn’t be arrested in this manner.” She then laughed and continued her disparaging remarks, questioning, “Do you know who is this so-called honest Judge Swaminathan really is? An RSS man, raised in RSS, a Sanghi who pass judgments (favoring) BJP. He was also one of the mob that insulted Christians in the Thanjavur students death case. His judgement was to insult the Christians. If you looking at more of his judgments, it will be the judgment favouring the RSS, BJP mob. Now, how do I look at this judgment by him declaring Sattai Duraimurugan as being “very good”? It means it seems like a possible scheme orchestrated by Sattai Duraimurugan’s group, especially Seeman, to negotiate and bargain from the Sanghis and influencing Judge Swaminathan.”

Her claims, lacking substantial evidence, appear to be driven by political motives. This has led to increasing calls on social media for appropriate action to address the damage she has done to the judiciary’s reputation.

In 2019, the Supreme Court stated that assigning political motives to a judgment is tantamount to “an act of contempt of the gravest form.” In the case of Rustom Cowasjee Cooper v. Union of India (1970), a six-judge Constitutional Bench addressed contempt proceedings initiated due to newspaper reports of speeches criticizing a Supreme Court decision. The Court ruled that while fair and moderate criticism, even if strong, is permissible, attributing improper motives to judges or actions that bring courts into disrepute or obstruct their functioning constitutes serious contempt, which the Court will address.

Dravidianists and so-called feminists who subscribe to the ideologies of EV Ramasamy Naicker (hailed as ‘Periyar’ by his followers) are known for advocating illicit extramarital affairs and have limitless sexual lives for women to break from the bondage of family and patriarchy.

Afterall, EVR himself had married Maniyammai, a woman way younger than him, whom he considered as his own daughter. EVR had also said that married women go to temples during festivals to get groped by other women. Dravidainists like Suba Veerapandian get dismayed at the term “adultery” and advocate for the usage of “relations outside of marriage”.

So, sexual perversion is not new to Dravidianists who follow the path of EVR.

However, in a new low, a Periyarist woman named Kotravai has seemingly called for normalizing incestual relationships and sexual relationships between mother-son, father-daughter, etc., if there is “mutual consent”.

In an interview to Avalglitz (a sub-channel of Indiaglitz), the Periyarist woman says “Today, people are talking about incest relationships. People are questioning why it is being opposed. Their question is reasonable. Is it right or wrong? With respect to sexual relationships, I will never come to a position of whether it is right or wrong. But, how do we handle this? As a society, what is the answer that we have to this question? Because, brother and sister having sex is not something new. If you look at Greek history, in the ancient times, relationships were based on a clan or a racial community. After a point of time, we’re changing the arrangements. The society is refining itself.”

She further goes on to say “The concept of chastity comes in relationships. It’s not a matter of whether it is right or wrong. Every sexual relationship, if it happens through mutual consent, nobody can call it wrong. Only when it is forced, it become a problem. So am I supporting sexual relations between father-daughter or mother-son? We can never go into that. It is their personal matter. Forcing oneself, raping, these are the problems for us. Beyond that whatever they discuss as “chastity” – whether he should be with her or she should be with him – it is not your problem. As long as they’re into it and they’ve given consent to each other, it is not our problem. If the society comes to this mindset, people can satisfy their needs with whomever they want. But if you keep suppressing it, it is getting exploded the other way.”

After the clip went viral, she took to her social media to clarify that all she meant was not to “moral police” people for their sexual choices or orientation and that her intention was not to normalize incestual or taboo relationship.

In the above video she says “Who are we to comment based on morality? I am strong in that position of mine. For that, I am not saying that those relationships or right and it is neither my job to promote such relations. I am person who approaches scientifically and respects human rights. Society has many approaches and we shouldn’t judge people. We’ve to approach to psychologically, scientifically, biologically and physiologically. That’s my argument. ‘Lulu’ Deva Jamla, who is a part of ‘Periyarist’ gang residing in Australia has reportedly been apprehended after allegations of running clandestine social media groups that allegedly brainwashed women into a purported “sexual trap”.

Lulu Deva Jamla, shortened to ‘Lulu’, is said to be from Kanyakumari and is currently believed to be residing in Australia. The Faceboook group of Lulu was reportedly started in 2017 and had around 180 members initially. Her husband Moses was earlier associated with Vaiko’s Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK).

Earlier The Commune had reported on the massive sex racket named ‘Lulu Group’ aka ‘Women Stress Buster (WSB)’, a Facebook group that allegedly targets young married women to have illicit sexual relations with men.

It was reported that ‘Lulu’ has been inducting and inciting ‘sexually unsatisfied’ women (mostly married) to have illicit relationships with other men. They were also forced to send their private pictures in the form of “challenges”.

The arrest of Lulu happened a few days back, following a complaint filed by a woman at the Adyar Women Police Station in Chennai back in 2020.

The complainant detailed a disturbing narrative, accusing the 45-year-old woman named Lulu Deva Jamla from Kanyakumari of orchestrating a secret WhatsApp group that lured woman into illicit relationships. Under the guise of promoting forward ‘progressive’ thinking, Jamla was allegedly manipulating women, enticing them with promises of limitless sexual freedom. The complaint further asserted that these women were coerced into staying in luxury accommodations, where they were purportedly sexually exploited.

The victim urgently implored the police to take immediate action against Jamla, who was reportedly residing in Australia at the time. 

Facing charges under IPC Sections 354(A), 354(C), 506, and IT Act Sections 66-E, 67-A in Crime No.2 of 2022, Jamla sought anticipatory bail, citing the need to attend her mother’s funeral in Kaniyakumari after arriving from Australia. Anticipatory bail was granted by the court on 11 December 2023 without examining merits.

Airports were put on alert, with a lookout notice issued by Police. When Jamla landed at Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram airport, she was reportedly apprehended by officers, and was later handed over to the Neelankarai Police. Following her arrest, Jameela was taken to the Saidapet Court and was later granted bail on 15 December 2023 according to sources aware of the matter.

Hindu activists and organizations have been protesting against the DMK government’s move to ban processions and installation of Vinayagar idols at public places for Vinayaga Chathurthi while letting state-owned liquor outlets to be open.

Hindu Munnani has been carrying out protests outside temples and has declared that they would defy the DMK government’s order and celebrate Vinayagar Chathurthi with procession.

In light of this, members of the Hindu Munnani had protested outside the Sangupaani Vinayagar Temple in Kanchipuram. Just outside the temple, a flower shop selling flowers, coconuts and other items required for pooja had hung a picture of Hindu God Athivaradhar Perumal in a slipper on the door of his shop.

When confronted, the shop owner Boopathi said that he was a member of the DK (an organization founded by E.V. Ramasamy Naicker known as ‘Periyar’ by his followers).

“I’m a member of DK. This is the DMK rule. We will do like this only. Nobody can question us.”, Boopathi had reportedly said.

Following his impudent remark, he was thrashed by the public and members of the Hindu Munnani. They also protested outside his shop demanding the police to arrest the man. As commotion ensued, police arrived at the spot and took Boopathi into custody.
