Filmmaker Mohan G Kshatriyan, known for his films like Draupathi, Bakasuran, Rudra Thandavam, has expressed concern over the themes portrayed in the recent Tamil film Dude. Speaking to Tamil Janam, Mohan said that while open discussion on ideas and philosophies is essential, certain justifications shown in cinema could send misleading messages to younger audiences.

He said, “You can talk about any philosophy – about Periyar, or about Scholar Annadurai. You can discuss their principles; you can internalize those and have conversations about them. Everyone has the right to deliberate on ideas, that right cannot be denied. So, there’s nothing wrong in having these discussions. But what’s interesting about this particular film is, when such characters are created in the movie, usually the film keeps it negative or doesn’t provide justification. But the director here is quite a young guy – perhaps at his age, he doesn’t fully grasp the gravity. He’s actually justified the story he’s presented.”

Explaining the theme of the film, he said, “Essentially, two people fall in love from a very young age. It’s a blood relation, like cousins. At one point, when their love isn’t accepted, immediately the girl finds another lover within six months. When the wedding is about to happen with the new lover, she tells this to the hero. To unite with her old lover, she arranges a fake wedding with the new lover, and the interval of the film comes after that. Up to that point, the movie was very good. The screenplay remained engaging throughout. But in the second half, there’s a subject that seems extremely unpleasant; it’s hard to see how this is possible in real life. Pradeep Ranganathan is a really good actor; he created sympathy for the character and kept us invested in the film. It makes you want that character do whatever is necessary to achieve this goal. But if you look closely, after the child from the new relationship is born and the marriage is over, the hero puts his initials and gives permission for the girl and the new husband to live together in his house. This is repulsive. It’s hard for families watching this film in theaters, not to frown.”

Expressing his thoughts, he said, “The point of this interview is to say: If your children watched this film on their own, it’s important that you have a healthy debate with them. What did they take away from the movie? What mindset are they going to carry for the next 10 or 20 years? Again, I want to stress – they justify this strange notion of sacrificing your own life for your lover to let them live with someone else. That’s what’s justified in the film, which is a very wrong idea to pass on to the next generation. So, if parents see their kids watched the movie alone, have a discussion. Or better, watch the movie together, see these problematic themes, and open up a discussion; take it as a good opportunity for dialogue. That’s how this movie should be watched. The director’s justification is incorrect. There are many Tamil movies that have sparked such debates, like “Andha Ezhu Naatkal” and in most of K. Balachander’s films. In those films, the hero’s character would be portrayed as a villain, and the heroine’s character as a flawed or problematic one. They highlight that such things should not happen in society. But here, the hero and the director just go ahead with whatever they please. In today’s times, after losing phone contact for six months, just meeting at a wedding and discussing these things is not realistic, but that’s the director’s viewpoint.”

He further added, “There’s also a storyline where, after an abortion, it’s declared that the child will not be born again; this is just something the director put in for the narrative. There’s another plot thread about going abroad which was very forced. It’s pushing things as progressive, but it’s not something you can readily accept. Ultimately, it’s up to the audience to decide; I’m sharing my own views. To parents: if your kids watch this film, have a good discussion with them, it’ll be beneficial for you. And about the creators of the film—if something similar happened in their own families, think about what decisions they would make. Can you accept this if it happened to your family? So “Dude” has been well received, and has sparked major discussion among people. Through Sarathkumar’s character, the film addresses honor killings, which is very welcome. If, say, there was no love between the hero and heroine, and he sacrificed for them to be together, maybe it could be accepted. But if there was actual romantic feeling, it is disgraceful. So, the film has created a discussion. I urge parents and children to use this as a chance for healthy debate and understanding.”

Justice K. Chandru has again taken the public pulpit—this time at Valluvar Kottam, Chennai—to accuse Justice G.R. Swaminathan (GRSJ) of “betraying” his judicial oath by speaking “against the Constitution” at an RSS event. The report places the speech on October 22, 2025, names the organisers (VCK Advocates’ Wing and Samathuva Vazkarinyar Sangam), and records the core charge: that GRSJ called India’s Constitution a “copied” product of the 1935 Act.

Before the moral thunder, the facts. There is a verified instance of GRSJ making a continuity claim: at a Think India symposium on January 5, 2025, he said “70% of the Constitution was based on the Government of India Act, 1935.” That phrasing is overbroad, but it is not invented and it came in a talk where he also stressed judicial fidelity to the constitutional text.

Now the paradox that refuses to go away. Chandru venerates Periyar – the Dravidian patriarch whose movement literature openly celebrates a Constitution-burning agitation. That is the movement’s own description: “Constitution Burning Movement was one of the landmark movements led by Thanthai Periyar in Tamil Nadu,” a unique protest where the text itself was torched to dramatise grievance. Later accounts even quote Periyar’s declared willingness “to burn the Constitution” if caste-entrenching practices continued.

So what exactly is the standard? If a judge’s hard (even crude) historical claim about colonial lineage amounts to “betrayal,” where does public, performative constitution-burning sit on that moral scale – heroism or heresy? It cannot be both at once. Dravidian political ecosystem continues to place Periyar on a pedestal.

On substance, the “copy of 1935” line is inaccurate if taken literally. India did carry forward administrative scaffolding from the Government of India Act, 1935 – legislative lists, gubernatorial machinery, PSC/CAG lineage yet it broke decisively on first principles: sovereignty grounded in “We, the People,” justiciable fundamental rights, universal adult franchise, and judicial review. That is why B.R. Ambedkar answered the “you copied 1935” taunt without apology: “I make no apologies… There is nothing to be ashamed of in borrowing… What I am sorry about is that the provisions taken… relate mostly to the details of administration.” (Constituent Assembly, November 4, 1948.) The fair rendering, then, is simple: continuity of machinery; transformation of the state’s soul. By that yardstick, GRSJ’s “70%” is an overstatement, not apostasy.

There is also the elementary question of forum and tone. Judges speak through judgments; retirees, if they must speak, ought to lower the temperature. The spectacle of post-retirement political evangelism has drawn public censure far beyond this episode; Law Commission member Hitesh Jain’s warning “more and more retired judges are openly behaving like political activists” captures the concern. Chandru’s latest broadside exemplifies the problem: a retired judge, garlanded by an ecosystem that canonises Periyar’s bonfires, branding a sitting judge a traitor for a contestable reading of constitutional history.

Set aside the biopic (Jai Bhim movie)-fuelled celebrity and state patronage: none of that licenses partisan thunder. When a retired judge brands a sitting judge a “betrayer,” the burden is to argue on facts and principle—not to sermonise from a Periyar-praising pulpit. The obligation is even-handedness; the record here is selective indignation.

The director of Dude, Keerthiswaran, has unabashedly proclaimed his ideological loyalty to E.V. Ramasamy Naicker (hailed as “Periyar” by his followers) while defending a film that tramples upon the sanctity of marriage, romanticises extra-marital affairs, and parades moral decay as “progressive values.”

The film’s plot revolves around Agan, a man who willingly gives up his wife to another man and later pretends to be the father of her child. The story — which would anywhere else be called a moral collapse — is being celebrated by a section of gen-z Dravidianists and leftists.

Speaking to the media over its alleged commercial success, “This film is creating debates. What I feel is this is Tamil Nadu. In this state, many ‘elders’ (periyavunga) have lived. One ‘periyavar’ (referring to anti-Hindu bigot EV Ramasamy Naicker) has also lived. They’ve said so many things. We’re just followers of them and talking about it. In Tamil Nadu, these statements are not new. Many have told this before. We as next-gen are carrying it forward and will continue to talk about it. But it will be conveyed entertainingly within cinema that is accepted by audience in large scale, that’s my wish.”

Keerthiswaran went on to say that he will “continue to make such films”.

The director of Dude, Keerthiswaran, has proudly outed himself as a textbook Dravidian propagandist, hailing E.V. Ramasamy Naicker, the self-styled “champion of women’s rights” who advocated for women to discard their uteruses to avoid the “slavery” of motherhood and promoted “pleasure without responsibility” as a virtue.

A social media post by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah celebrating two world records for the state has sparked controversy, with critics questioning the authenticity of the recognition. The Chief Minister had announced that Karnataka had entered the global stage with two historic achievements certified by the London Book of World Records — one for the Shakti Scheme marking 564.10 crore free bus rides availed by women, and another for the KSRTC as the most award-winning road transport corporation with 464 honours since 1997.

In his post, Siddaramaiah said these recognitions symbolised social justice, women’s empowerment, and inclusive governance. However, critics have claimed the awards are not internationally recognised and that the London Book of World Records is not a legitimate global institution. He wrote, “Karnataka enters the global stage with two historic world records – certified by the London Book of World Records. Shakti Scheme: Largest number of free bus rides availed by women – 564.10 crore journeys, empowering everyday mobility. KSRTC: Most award-winning road transport corporation in the world – 464 national & international honours since 1997. Our governance vision is rooted in social justice, women’s empowerment, and world-class public service. These recognitions are a reflection of what inclusive and compassionate policymaking can achieve.”

Was It A Real Award?

What is interesting in the organisation’s website is that it lists several purchasable “award packages,” ranging from ₹4,000 to ₹10,000, with certificates, medals, trophies, and optional news video releases. The listings also specify that payments are accepted only through online banking, further raising questions about the legitimacy of the awards.

Critics also noted that the certificate wording reads “in Karnataka” rather than “in the world,” suggesting that the award’s claim to world-record status is misleading.

Fact-checkers and political opponents alleged that the company behind the awards was dissolved in the United Kingdom and now operates from India.

Reminds One Of The ‘UNESCO Award’ Claim for EVR

Observers have compared the Karnataka government’s “London Book of World Records” episode with an earlier controversy from Tamil Nadu surrounding the so-called “UNESCO Award” given to social reformer E.V. Ramasamy (Periyar). For decades, it was widely propagated in Tamil Nadu that Periyar was conferred the title “Socrates of South-East Asia” by UNESCO, a claim repeated in school textbooks and public service exam materials.

However, an official email clarification from UNESCO’s Delhi office confirmed that no such award or title was ever given to E.V. Ramasamy. The award was, in fact, presented by late DMK leader M. Karunanidhi in the presence of Dravidar Kazhagam president K. Veeramani, and not by UNESCO.

Critics pointed out that even the fabricated award title contained geographical inaccuracies, as India falls under South Asia and not the South-East Asia region referenced in the award.

Both allies – the DMK and the Congress have been building narratives around unverifiable or misleading accolades to bolster ideological or governance claims – the London Book of World Records recognition claimed by the Karnataka government and the UNESCO award myth associated with Periyar are perfect examples.

The post The Real Picture Behind “Periyar Portrait” Unveiling At Oxford University: Yet Another Dravidian Model Scam Like UNESCO Mandram Award appeared first on The Commune.

]]>

On 5 September 2025, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced with great fanfare that he had unveiled a portrait of E.V. Ramasamy Naicker (hailed as “Periyar” by his followers) at Oxford University, describing it as the “greatest honour” of his life.

The DMK ecosystem and sympathetic media outlets amplified this claim, portraying it as if Oxford University itself had formally recognised Periyar alongside figures like Gandhi or Mandela.

But a closer look at the facts exposes the exaggeration and propaganda behind this narrative.

What Really Happened At Oxford

The event was not an official Oxford University ceremony. It was a small academic conference titled the London Self-Respect Movement Conference, organised within a department of St. Antony’s College, Oxford – one among 39 autonomous colleges that make up the university. Two professors facilitated the programme.

To put it in perspective: it’s like a department of some college on OMR Road under Anna University unveiling a portrait of EVR. You wouldn’t call that “Anna University unveils Periyar’s photo.”

This was not a university-wide event endorsed by Oxford’s central administration. It was a departmental seminar, of the kind that happens almost daily in Oxford’s sprawling academic ecosystem.

The much-hyped “portrait unveiling” was not a permanent installation sanctioned by the university. Unlike the statues of Gandhi or Mandela, which were donated by alumni and officially approved by Oxford bodies, this was simply a framed picture displayed at a conference. There is no official record of EVR’s portrait being accepted into Oxford’s collections or archives.

No Mention On Oxford Platforms

Oxford maintains a central event-listing portal called Oxford Talks, where seminars and conferences are recorded. Searches of the site show no listing under EVR or so-called Periyar’s name or the supposed unveiling. Neither the official Oxford University website nor St. Antony’s College made any announcement about EVR.

In other words, the “Oxford honours Periyar” line is a creation of DMK’s spin machinery – a departmental event presented as a university-wide recognition.

Recycling A Familiar Playbook

This is not the first time such claims have been manufactured. In the past, similar narratives were floated about – Periyar UNESCO Award & Karunanidhi Austria Stamp. Let’s take a look at these.

EVR UNESCO Mandram Award

The so-called UNESCO award that was given to Dravidian ideologue EVR known as Periyar among followers has been one of the greatest lies peddled by the Dravidianists. For long, it has been said, written, and ingrained in the minds of people that EVR was conferred with the title of “Socrates of South-East Asia” by UNESCO. This had found its place even in school textbooks of Tamil Nadu and was even asked as a question in annual examinations and Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission exams. However, this award has turned out to be a sham. An email response from the UNESCO office in Delhi has confirmed that no such award/title was given to E.V. Ramasamy Naicker.

Even in the award, there exists a conspicuous error. The title of the award says “Socrates of South-East Asia”. India does not fall under the South-East Asia grouping. The Southeast nations include Brunei, Myanmar, Cambodia, Timor-Leste, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. India comes under South Asia and not South-East Asia.

For more than 40 years, this lie has been peddled with several articles and research papers on EVR written based on this lie. None in the media or those belonging to the ‘intellectual’ circle who speak of facts has ever opened their mouths about this blatant lie peddled.

Then who gave the award to EVR? It was none other than late former DMK leader M. Karunanidhi in the presence of Dravida Kazhagam President K. Veeramani.

Austria Stamp For Karunanidhi

In 2013, the Austrian postal service released a limited-edition postage stamp to mark DMK chief M. Karunanidhi’s 90th birthday on 3 June that year. The stamp, priced at 90 euros, features Karunanidhi’s portrait alongside the DMK’s red-and-black party flag and the numeral 90. According to Don Ashok, a businessman with ties to Austria, the initiative was taken by a few individuals who requested the postal service to honour Karunanidhi for his contributions to politics, cinema and literature. He described it as a gesture of affection from party supporters worldwide.

Tribals Praising MK Stalin

In June 2025, a viral video was shared on social media and pushed by Dravidianist mouthpiece Kalaignar Seithigal claiming Tanzanian tribals were “spontaneously” praising Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin – this was later exposed as a paid PR stunt.

However, upon closer inspection, it emerged that these “greetings” were anything but spontaneous or sincere. A fact-check revealed that for a small fee, roughly ₹4,000 or $40, anyone can pay for a group of individuals in Tanzania or elsewhere in Africa to perform a short video message with a photo or poster of their choosing. A fact check handle exposed the DMK’s propaganda drama.

Websites like africanjoyflix.comwishesmadevisual.comafricanbirthdaywishes.com, and wishfromafrica.net openly provide these services, allowing clients to select a group and script their messages, all for a flat fee.

Furthermore, there was no credible or independent information suggesting that the people in the video were aware of, much less appreciative of, the initiatives implemented by the DMK government in Tamil Nadu. Dr. Sukumar’s supposed role in this production also stands unsubstantiated.

The Oxford portrait story fits neatly into this pattern: creating an illusion of global recognition to bolster Dravidian icons domestically.

Political and Ideological Packaging

The speech Stalin delivered at Oxford was heavy with symbolism, describing himself as Periyar’s “grandson in ideals,” claiming Periyar had “fed self-respect to a whole race,” and presenting the portrait unveiling as proof of Periyar’s global relevance.

But the reality is far less grand: a portrait unveiled at a conference room, without any institutional sanction from Oxford.

The propaganda value, however, lies in the contrast between perception and fact. To a Tamil Nadu audience, “Oxford honours Periyar” sounds like historic validation. To the global academic community, it was just another departmental seminar.

Dravidian Model Lies

Why exaggerate such events? Because the Dravidian establishment thrives on projecting its ideology as globally validated. By inflating departmental seminars into university honours, it seeks to manufacture prestige and legitimacy.

So, in a nutshell:

Oxford University did not honour EVR.
No official portrait was installed.
No record exists in Oxford’s archives or announcements.

What happened was simple: two professors organised a departmental seminar where a framed picture was unveiled. What followed was propaganda – a small academic event blown up into an “Oxford recognition” story to serve political optics back home.

Once again, the Dravidian establishment has shown how it thrives on projection, not reality.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, on 11 March 2025, launched a sharp attack on the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), accusing the party of double standards on the Tamil language. Speaking in the Lok Sabha, she stated that the party idolizes a person who once described Tamil as a “barbaric” language that “cannot even help beggars get alms.”

While Sitharaman did not explicitly name the person, her remarks appeared to be directed at E.V. Ramasamy, also hailed as Periyar by his followers.

She said, “I do not want to name him, but the moment I read the passages, anyone with even a faint familiarity with Tamil will know who I am referring to,” she said, quoting statements from various Tamil magazines.

She further said, “Sir, for just saying your protests are uncivil, they made the education minister to withdraw his statement. When a man repeatedly says, Tamil is a barbaric language, (katumirandi bashai), look at their hypocrisy, they keep his photo in every room. I am sure even in the Parliament office of that party, his photo is there. They garland him and they worship him and they say he is the icon of the Dravidian movement. But he said, Tamil is katumirandi bashai. So sir, I am saying, unbelievable that this person is worshipped but our poor Dharmendra Pradhan just said don’t do uncivil protest, he is being accused. And if their love for Tamil is so much how can they worship somebody who said Tamil is a katumirandi bashai?”

Pradhan had earlier alleged that the DMK was being dishonest and ruining the future of Tamil Nadu students by opposing the NEP for political reasons. He accused the party of misleading the people and doing a U-turn on the education policy.

The DMK, however, rejected the criticism, stating that Tamil Nadu had conveyed its opposition to the NEP’s three-language formula. The party argued that budget allocations for education should not be withheld over policy disagreements.

Virtue-signalling actor Suriya’s father actor Sivakumar who is famous for pushing away and slamming cell phones preventing fans from taking selfies with him, is back with another controversy.

Speaking at a private college in Tiruvannamalai where his portrait of EV Ramasamy Naicker was released, he made a claim about EV Ramasamy Naicker (hailed as Periyar by Dravidianists) stating that he was the reason why IAS and IPS officers emerged from oppressed backgrounds. He said, “Today, there is a caste system – upper and lower castes and divided into Brahmana, Kshatriya, Vaishya and Shudra (like cobblers etc). When the lower castes were humiliated the maximum, the oppressed people today are able to become IAS IPS because of the struggle of one man – Periyar. All the oppressed castes were able to become IAS IPS because of the protests and struggle of this man. I painted this painting in 2007 and I did not paint after that. MDMK leader Vaiko told me that if my paintings have to be complete, I must draw Periyar’s image. So I drew this in 2007. “

This statement, like many other misattributed historical claims, conveniently ignores the real pioneer. The credit for opening the doors of civil services to oppressed communities, particularly Dalits and Shudras, goes to Rettamalai Srinivasan and the Paraiyar Mahajana Sabha, whose efforts predate Periyar’s activism by decades. Let’s set the record straight.

The Historical Context: British India And Civil Services

To understand why Sivakumar’s claim is misleading, we must revisit the late 19th century, a time when the Indian Civil Services (ICS) were dominated by British officers. The ICS was the backbone of British administration in India, and entry into this elite service was through competitive examinations held exclusively in London. This system posed significant barriers for Indians, especially those from oppressed communities, due to the high costs of travel and the caste restrictions on crossing the seas.

Between 1862 and 1875, only 40 Indians managed to appear for these exams, and most of them were from privileged upper-caste backgrounds. The Indian National Congress, which was dominated by upper-caste elites, began advocating for the exams to be held simultaneously in India and London. On the surface, this seemed like a progressive move, but Dalit leaders like Rettamalai Srinivasan saw it as a ploy to further entrench upper-caste dominance in the bureaucracy.

Rettamalai Srinivasan And Paraiyar Mahajana Sabha

Rettamalai Srinivasan, a prominent Dalit activist from the Madras Presidency, founded the Paraiyar Mahajana Sabha in 1892 and the newspaper Paraiyan in 1893. He was a visionary leader who understood that allowing civil service exams to be held in India would enable Brahmins and other upper castes to monopolize administrative positions, leaving Dalits and Shudras further marginalized.

In 1893, Srinivasan and the Sabha organized a massive meeting at the Wesley Mission Hall in Madras, where they drafted a petition signed by 3,412 people. This petition vehemently opposed the demand for simultaneous exams in India, arguing that it would only benefit the upper castes. The petition highlighted the systemic oppression faced by Dalits, including their exclusion from educational institutions and public spaces dominated by Brahmins.

The Sabha’s petition was forwarded to the British government, and it played a pivotal role in influencing their decision. On 19 April 1894, Secretary of State for India John Wodehouse announced in the House of Commons that the British government would not conduct civil service exams in India, citing “insuperable objections.” This decision was a direct result of the Sabha’s efforts, as documented in the India Office records of the British Library.

Where was Periyar in 1893? He was barely a 15-year-old school dropout at the time. His political activism didn’t even begin until much later. To claim that he was responsible for opening up the bureaucracy to oppressed communities is historically inaccurate and an insult to the real pioneers of social justice.

Post-Independence – Dr BR Ambedkar

If Sivakumar was talking about post-Independence India, the oppressed classes were able to make it to the civil services because of Ambedkar.

Dr. Ambedkar firmly believed that the inclusion of Scheduled Castes in the civil services and government administration was crucial for their empowerment and for ensuring that their rights were protected. He argued that having individuals from marginalized communities in positions of power would help address the discrimination and injustices they faced. By joining the administration, Scheduled Castes could influence policies and decisions that directly impacted their communities, thereby creating a more equitable society.

As the Chairman of the Drafting Committee of the Constituent Assembly, Dr. Ambedkar played a pivotal role in shaping the Indian Constitution. He ensured that the Constitution included provisions for the protection and upliftment of Scheduled Castes, such as:

 1. Reservations: Articles 15(4) and 16(4) provided for reservations in educational institutions and public employment for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
 2. Abolition of Untouchability: Article 17 abolished the practice of untouchability and made it a punishable offense.
 3. Fundamental Rights: Articles 14 to 18 guaranteed equality before the law and prohibited discrimination on the grounds of caste, religion, race, or sex.

Dr. Ambedkar encouraged Scheduled Castes to join the civil services and government not only to secure their own futures but also to act as representatives of their communities. He believed that their presence in the administration would:

 1. Ensure Fair Implementation: SC officers could help ensure that laws and policies benefiting marginalized communities were implemented fairly and effectively.
 2. Challenge Discrimination: Their presence would challenge the entrenched caste biases within the bureaucracy.
 3. Inspire Future Generations: Seeing individuals from their communities in positions of power would inspire younger generations to aspire to similar achievements.

So, either way, EVR did not play any great role in ensuring oppressed communities were able to enter the civil services in the country.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tamil Nadu unit has begun organizing public meetings across all districts of Tamil Nadu from 12 February to 15 February 2025 to explain the key aspects of the central government’s 2025-2026 budget.

BJP State Vice President Karu Nagarajan announced that these meetings will be led by BJP district leaders and held in major cities across the state. The first session took place on Wednesday, 12 February 2025 in Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai. BJP State President K. Annamalai and former State President Tamilisai Soundararajan addressed the gathering. In her speech at this event, BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan spoke about DMK MP Kanimozhi’s actions before the parliamentary elections, particularly regarding her stance on Periyar and the political landscape in Tamil Nadu.

According to the Tamilisai, Kanimozhi, who was contesting in Thoothukudi, allegedly replaced an image of Periyar on her Twitter profile with a palm tree the day before the election. Tamilisai questioned whether this move signified a shift in priorities and accused her of undermining Periyar’s legacy for electoral gains. Kanimozhi thought that the palm tree would get more votes than Periyar, and now they are talking about respect for his legacy, she said. The controversy follows earlier criticisms where Kanimozhi reportedly claimed, If you speak wrongly about Periyar, you will not get votes.”

Tamilisai also contrasted Tamil Nadu’s political discourse and the broader national narrative. All the state parliamentarians are talking about development. Only those from this state are talking about Sanskrit and Hindu identity, she remarked. She also highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Tamil-language Thaipusam greetings as an example of national inclusivity, juxtaposing it with the DMK’s alleged neglect of Tamil cultural representation.

Further, the speech took a strong stance against the DMK, accusing its members of using the party flag as a shield for criminal activities. Today, we are looking at the criminals who waved the DMK flag for all the robberies happening in this country. If the DMK flag is used, it becomes a license, Tamilisai charged. The budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, a Tamil woman, was praised as abudget for the common people. Respected Nirmala Sitharaman, a Tamil woman, presented the budget in Parliament for the eighth time in a row. People from Tamil Nadu should garland the Prime Minister for this, she stated. The argument was made that Tamil Nadu should recognize and appreciate the representation of Tamil women in national politics, asserting that the BJP was providing opportunities for them.

The speech concluded with a call for political change, suggesting that the DMK’s dominance in Tamil Nadu was waning. This sister and brother (referring to Annamalai) are sending Stalin home together. The saffron flag should fly in Tamil Nadu, she declared. Tamilisai also invoked historical political shifts, drawing parallels between past electoral outcomes and the present scenario. See if you like it or not, I am telling you, brother Annamalai, this Bharatiya Janata Party is equal to our life, she asserted. She added, “Anna is not the one who propagated Tamil, it was Andal. It was not Periyar who propagated Tamil, it was Periyalwar and one must understand it was not Periyar who did it.” She also reaffirmed her undying support for the BJP, advocating for the party’s expansion in Tamil Nadu and calling for greater recognition of Tamil cultural figures.

The leftist ecosystem over the years has ensured that lie after lie is repeated and brains of young students is literally “washed” with them. The Nehruvian system of education ensured Indians remain colonial slaves and continue to be Brown sepoys of the colonisers and the invaders even after regimes have changed and democracy has flourished.

Down south, the Dravidian ecosystem has ensured that a rabid anti-Hindu, anti-Tamil “ideologue” of theirs, the one and only EV Ramasamy Naicker (referred to as Periyar by his loyal followers), continues to be venerated by the incoming generations.

The NDA government promised that textbooks will be changed to include the truth and children be taught the glory of our illustrious past. There has been change but not enough change has been made. While textbook lessons with respect to Mughal invaders and other lies that were propagated have been done away with, the NCERT/CBSE board introduces (not sure how long this has been the case), this Dravidianist rabid anti-Hindu as a “reformer” in its Class 8, History (Social Science textbook – Our Pasts III) in its 7th Chapter titled – Women, Caste and Reform.

The chapter continues to showcase the same names that were included in textbooks more than 2 decades ago – people such as Ishwarchandra Vidyasagar, Swami Dayanand Saraswati, Rajaram Mohun Roy and Shri Narayana Guru. Then comes the surprise – EV Ramasamy Naicker is also featured in the chapter under the “Non Brahman movement”.

This section is completely riddled with lies. Let’s look at each one of them.

Busting The Myths Of EVR Peddled In NCERT Textbook

Claim In NCERT: “They challenged Brahminical claims to power”

Reality: Back in the day, most of the Tamil Brahmins either worked as priests in temples or as teachers in schools that are funded by landed communities like Mudaliars, Chettiars, Pillais, etc. Some of the Brahmins lived on land donated to them by kings. With the coming of the British, the Brahmins who were once at the hold of these communities, proved to be agile with their skills and were employed by the British in various roles. It was not only the Brahmins who were employed by the British but a few other communities as well which included people from other communities including those from the Justice Party which EVR and his cronies went on to found.

Claim In NCERT: “E.V. Ramaswamy Naicker, or Periyar, as he was called, came from a middle-class family.”

Reality: He was born into a rich merchant family in Erode. He was not Tamil to begin with, he belonged to the Kannada Kamma community. In the book, Collected Works of EVR by DK’s K Veeramani, he describes EVR’s father Venkata Naicker as “A popular rich merchant; Ardent devotee of Hindu religion. (A Vaishnavite)” . So surely, EVR was not from a middle-class family.

Claim In NCERT: “Interestingly, he had been an ascetic in his early life”

Reality: Thanks to his father’s Hindu leanings, EVR had the chance to “hear Tamil Vaishnav religious Gurus talks on mythologies at his house, enjoying their hospitability. As a boy, he started questioning the contradictions and illusions in the fables of Hindu deities spread by the Aryan Race ie., Brahmins for subjugating Dravidian Race” – as mentioned in the book by K Veeramani.

By 13, he was married to his first wife Nagammal. He did “reform his orthodox wife and sowed rationalistic views”. Let us tell you how he did it.

His wife, Nagammaiyar, was a devout woman who occasionally visited temples during festivals. However, EVR was determined to put an end to this practice, and he employed a rather unconventional—and controversial—method to achieve this. An account of this in a book under the chapter “Thoughts On Society”, it reads, “(2) Abolition of temple visitation: Nagammaiyar visits the temple every now and then during festivals. EV Rao’s plan is to stop this case. The prank he did for this was very funny. One day Nagammaiyar went to the temple with some women on the occasion of some festival. E.V.Ra. He went to the temple with some of his companions. He stood in a secluded place so that the minor Kolumbundu Ammaiyar could not see him well. Showing Nagammaiyar to his associates, ‘She is someone new. She has come to our town. We must conquer her; Make the effort you need to know her intentions.’ They also went to where Avvammaiyar was standing and started mocking him. Nagammaiyar saw the proceedings of this meeting. He had no idea what to do. Feet were hot. The body trembled. The heart was pounding with unbearable fear. She was drenched in sweat. However, she somehow managed to escape from the men and returned home. After knowing the situation of the temples, the next day she realized that the event held in the temple was a trick of her husband.”

His extreme and manipulative approach succeeded in instilling fear in her, effectively putting an end to her temple visits.

Claim In NCERT: “Periyar was an outspoken critic of Hindu scriptures, especially the Codes of Manu, the ancient lawgiver, and the Bhagavad Gita and the Ramayana. He said that these texts had been used to establish the authority of Brahmans over lower castes and the domination of men over women.”

Reality: He was not a “critic” of Hindu scriptures. That’s a mild way of putting it when compared to the venom he spewed about Hindu Gods and scriptures. A critic is someone who engages thoughtfully and civilly to analyze, evaluate, and critique, using rational arguments grounded in principle. This rabid hate monger only abused Hindu Gods. EVR disgustingly described the birth of Hindu God Murugan. Kamba Ramayanam, the Tamil version of Ramayana that is revered in Tamil Nadu was denounced by Periyar as a ‘storehouse of falsehood’. Tamil Saivite literature like Tevaram, Tiruvasagam and Tirumandiram which are part of the Thirumurai, a collection of songs in praise of Hindu God Shiva was called as rubbish by EVR. He had called the presiding deity Lord Rangathaswamy of Srirangam as a god who comes in search of prostitutes. He had also claimed that Rama had married other women apart from Sita for his sexual pleasure. He had also claimed that Ravana was, in fact, a Dravidian King from South India.

In 1953, Periyar organized agitation for the desecration of Ganesha idols. He had elaborated extensively on the motivations behind the breaking of the idols. He had said in a speech in 1953, “We have to eradicate the gods who are responsible for the institution which portrays us as sudras, people of low birth, and some others as Brahmins of high birth. While the former go on toiling, without any education, whereas the latter can remain without exerting themselves. We have to break the idols of these gods. I start with Ganesa because it is he who is worshipped before undertaking any task.”

Claim In NCERT:“But orthodox Hindu society also reacted by founding Sanatan Dharma Sabhas and the Bharat Dharma Mahamandal in the north, and associations like the Brahman Sabha in Bengal. The object of these associations was to uphold caste distinctions as a cornerstone of Hinduism, and show how this was sanctified by scriptures.”

Reality: It feels as if there is an anti-Hindu element sitting right at the textbook committee for peddling such anti-Hindu lies and ensuring children who are at a very nascent stage are fed this propaganda nonsense and challenge the practices in their homes. This is especially targeted at Hindus as you cannot see much on other religious denominations in the chapter.

Hindus have consistently adapted their practices to remain relevant through changing times unlike one barbaric political cult that is stuck in the medieval past and bays for the blood its non-followers. Gurus like Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, Swami Vivekananda, Ramanujacharya, Kanchi Sankaracharya, Aurobindo and many others have enabled reforms within the community breaking the caste rigidity.

Claim In NCERT:“Periyar on women – Periyar wrote: Only with the arrival of words such as Thara Mukurtham our women had become puppets in the hands of their husbands … we ended up with such fathers who advise their daughters … that they had been gifted away to their husbands, and they belong to their husband’s place. This is the … result of our association with Sanskrit. Periyar, cited in Periyar Chintahnaikal”

Reality: Let us tell you what EVR had to say about women and women empowerment meant to him.

Said Women Visit Temples To Enjoy Being Groped By Men

During a widely celebrated speech revered by followers of EVR and D-Stocks, EVR crudely asserted that women visit temples to be groped, “Husbands usually don’t go to the temple, but at least to have fun they go. The women who are tied (Married) can go only during festival season. Only by going there, she can rub with four men; If she stays at home ‘Her husband will threaten asking ‘what work; If she goes there… ‘Come’ will say the husband; She will say ‘Can’t come they are crushing’; He will say ‘Come, come through them’, She gets all that pleasure only when she is taken to the temple; He is habituated to this because everyone else’s wife is also subject to the same, hence no one will ridicule it. Only because of this, she is holding her life. If we make different arrangements for this, women would not go to temples.”

Had Romantic Escapades With Prostitutes

Samy Chidambaranar’s 1939 book Tamizhar Thalaivar delves into several controversial claims, including allegations about E.V. Ramasamy (Periyar). The book narrates accounts of his nocturnal activities with women by riverbanks while having his wife prepare meals for such outings. Titled, “Family Mischief” (Kudumba Kurumbugal), Samy Chidambaranar narrates, “Ramasamy was a great “Minor” (flirt) before he ventured into public life. His friends will joke about his ‘minor’ exploits quite quirkily. Sometimes he (EVR) would also talk about it. In those days, EVR was mostly in the houses of prostitutes – entering and departing. There were many partners for this. Ramasamy and his associates would go to the banks of River Cauvery with a group of prostitutes during the lunar nights. They would spend the whole night in the river ‘having fun’ and return home only early in the morning. The food for these meetings should come from EVR’s house only. Parents should not know about food delivery. For this, EVR will seek the help of Nagammai. She will, too, unbeknownst to the family, would cook the food that her husband wanted, and the food would be sent through the backdoor and taken to the Cauvery by a cart.”

When EVR Visited Prostitutes In Cauvery River Bed With Food Prepared By His Wife, Tamilar Thalaivar Periyar book

Tamil Brahmins “Prostituted” Their Women To Other Castes

On Page 168 of the book “Collected Works of EVR Periyar“, it talks about how he said Tamil Brahmins “prostituted” their women to other castes.

“I asked him to tell me where he stands in the society. I asked him to tell me the rank he holds under the caste hierarchy. He told me his status in life is that of a minister. He replied that he is a Reddiar by caste. Stating the caste as Reddy, Gounder, Naidu, and Naicker are all names we have created. But according to shastras, religion, and tradition, we are all “Shudras” the fourth caste. This continues to exist for a long time. We have started the movement to crusade against this long-lasting disgraceful status. After that, I asked him what was meant by “Shudra”. I myself explained to him that “shudra” means the son of a prostitute.

Then I continued to speak to him. I said, “You have high degree of education. You have passed B.A., B.L., You were a minister for three years. Again you are a now a minister. You are still a “Shudra” the son of a prostitute. You are not ashamed of your low social status. A fellow who begs at you, a fellow who is willing to prostitute his womenfolk for you, calls himself as a high born. You accept him as superior in caste. You prostrate at his feet”. I finally put the question, ” Now you tell me whether you want the Self-Respect Movement or not?” He simply replied that all these have existed for a very long period.”

Hindu Women Go To Crowded Temples To Rub Their Bodies Against Strange Men

In what is said to be one of his speeches and later published in the Dravidianist mouthpiece Viduthalai in 1973, EVR says, “Young women who are tied up at home can be seen outside only during temple festivals. Only if they go there will they be able to rub their bodies against young men. If they are at home, the husband threatens her with work. If she goes there, he will ask her to come. “I am not able to come, he is crushing me, he is crushing me“, she would say, “Come without a word“, he would say.

He receives that pleasure only when he takes his wife to the temple. That became a habit since this is the state of all wives, no one makes fun of it. Because of such things, life goes on. If we make other arrangements as appropriate, the women will return.”

This is what EVR had in mind and said about women.

Claim In NCERT: “Convinced that untouchables had to fight for their dignity”

Reality: On December 25, 1958, during the tragic Keezhvenmani incident, 44 Dalit workers were killed by landlords for seeking higher wages. Instead of condemning the violence, EVR suggested that workers should accept the wages given by landowners without demanding more. This stance overlooked the deep-seated caste discrimination involved. Moreover, in the magazine “Kudiarasu,” EVR commented that the increase in clothing prices was due to Dalit women beginning to wear jackets. Throughout his activism, EVR did not significantly engage in or support any movements specifically aimed at improving Dalit rights related to education, jobs, temple entry, or occupational rights. Despite this, he often took credit for broader social movements where his participation was minimal. EVR was always envious of Dalits gaining political representation so much so that he once had addressed Dr. Ambedkar as “an agent of the North Indian Brahminical Congress Party

It is highly unfortunate that NCERT glorifies this perverted being as a reformer and one who fought for women’s/oppressed caste people’s rights.

EVR Was No Reformer, He Was Just A Rabid Hate Mongering Bigot

Called For Genocide Of Brahmins

EVR called for the genocide of Brahmins in the name of abolishing the caste system.

He said “If to eradicate caste we need to burn the agraharams (Tamizh Brahmin house colonies) and murder atleast 1000 Tamizh Brahmins then we will do exactly that” declaring the date of genocide as 26th November 1957, the Constitution Day.

The book “Periyar Thought Collection Part 1” records a speech by EVR where he advocated for the killing of Brahmin men and women if the Rajaji government failed to withdraw the Madras scheme of elementary education (Kulakalvi Thittam) in 1953. In another incident, EVR made a direct comparison between Brahmins and Jews, suggesting that Brahmins should be forcibly removed from India. This statement was made in 1938, coinciding with the rise of persecution against Jews in Germany. It is evident that EVR’s intention behind this comparison was to incite prejudice and discrimination against Brahmins. Additionally, he expressed the belief that in order to eliminate caste in India, it was necessary to eradicate God, religion, scriptures, and Brahmins. In a separate address by EVR in Virudhunagar in 1944, he offered guidance to students, proposing that just as the Germans persecuted Jews and rose to power, why shouldn’t we do the same to Aryans (Brahmins)?

In another instance, during his speech in Karaikudi, EVR openly encouraged non-Brahmins to kill Brahmins. EVR said, “They are celebrating festival it seems , he is celebrating Soora Samhaaram, what is it? He (Soorapadman the demon) was someone who said there is no god, they killed him, therefore now we can kill those buggers… that won’t be wrong (if we kill them) may be legally it will be wrong, that legal offence and all are bullshit we cant be bothered that it is legally wrong. We have to come to the conclusion, wherever we see a temple we must go inside and break all the idols inside, wherever we find Paapan (Brahmins) we must kill and destroy him. He has done like this to us, after all he (Tamil Brahmin) has done things like this only to come to this position. We must also do to the him, whatever he has done, what, a few of us have to die, if one Tamil dies for one paapan, means only three of us will die out of every hundreds, balance 94% will still remain.”

Called Pongal Festival A Nuisance

In a 1931 article penned under the pseudonym “Screw Loose,” EVR, hailed as Periyar by his followers, abused the Pongal festival, lambasting it as a wasteful and harmful tradition. He expressed particular disdain for the cultural practices surrounding Pongal, such as preparing sweet and savory dishes that, he claimed, were often overindulged in by poorer families.

Gems On Muslims

EVR harbored strong animosity toward minorities, particularly Muslims, and expressed his views openly. In a 1962 article, he declared that the nation would be doomed if it continued to support minorities. He vehemently attacked Muslims, blaming them for literally every issue, and worked to rally the non-Brahmin community against both Muslims and Hindu Brahmins by spreading hatred. This editorial reflects EVR’s deeply divisive rhetoric, in which he not only targeted Muslims but also sought to create further divisions in society by pitting non-Brahmin communities against both Muslims and Brahmin Hindus.

He referred to Christians and Muslims in Tamil Nadu as “non-Tamils,” stating, “In Tamil Nadu’s population, Brahmins make up 2.75%, Christians around 4%, Muslims approximately 5%, Malayalis about 8%, and people from Karnataka roughly 5%. When you combine these groups, they account for 25% of the population. Yet, these ‘non-Tamils’ occupy 75% of the top positions in employment. The suffering of Tamils, he argued, is due to the fact that Brahmins, Christians, Muslims, and others falsely claim to be Tamils.”

What He Thought About Malayalis

EVR’s dislike for Malayalis is evident in several of his speeches and writings. He often used strong, provocative language to criticize Malayalis, particularly targeting their cultural practices, social structures, and perceived dominance in certain spheres.

Abused Tamil Language And Called Thirukkural As ‘Faeces’

EVR hated Tamil so much that he called Thirukkural as faeces. In an editorial published in Viduthalai on October 11, 1967, EVR referred to Tamil as a “kaatumiraandi mozhi” (barbarian language). This was not an isolated remark—throughout his life, he belittled Tamil, advocating for its abandonment in favor of English. He even went so far as to say that “Tamil is a language not even useful for begging.” Silappadikaram, one of Tamil Nadu’s most revered literary works from the Sangam era, was dismissed by EVR as Aryan propaganda. In a speech on March 30, 1951, he described it as a collection of superstitions that promoted the subjugation of women.

Between October and November 1967, EVR wrote multiple articles portraying Tamils as backward and irrational. He argued that their inventions and traditions—such as the grinding stone, oil lamps, and bullock carts—were primitive and of no practical use. He even claimed that Tamils had no concept of time and had borrowed it from the English.

EVR openly derided Tamil society, describing its people as lacking racial consciousness, self-respect, nationalism, and even basic humaneness.

In a Viduthalai editorial dated March 16, 1967, EVR declared that Tamil scholars and pundits deserved to be imprisoned for life and hanged, accusing them of failing to contribute to society’s progress. He even ridiculed the World Tamil Conference, calling it a “census to enumerate fools.”

Thirukkural, revered as one of the greatest works of Tamil literature, was scathingly criticized by EVR. Initially, he praised it, but later dismissed it as “feces placed in a golden plate.”

EVR had contempt for Subramania Bharathi, the iconic poet and nationalist leader. In the journal Ticutar, he mocked Bharathi for calling Tamil the sister language of Sanskrit. He even compared Bharathi to a rat.

Nehru Himself Called EVR A Lunatic

When EVR gave a genocidical call to kill Brahmins, Nehru had written a letter to then Chief Minister of Madras K. Kamaraj saying that EVR’s call might lead to strong communal feeling which could even lead to murders.

Anguished by the virulent vitriol spewed by EVR, Nehru shot off another letter to Kamaraj on 5 November 1957 in which he asked EVR to “be put in a lunatic asylum” and let his “perveted mind be treated there”.

NCERT Should Be Ashamed

It is one thing for a state entrenched in Dravidianism to glorify this hateful bigot as social reformer. It is also understandable if the EVR glorifying propaganda was inserted in textbook when the NCERT was under the control of leftists ably supported by the Congress-led UPA government. But NCERT should be a little more responsible as non-Tamil students across India would matter how much the Dravidianists, leftists and the woke Brahmins try to hail EVR as a social reformer

Is this the kind of idol and ideologue that NCERT/CBSE wants to introduce children to? Do we want our children to celebrate a man who abused Hindus, derogated Tamil culture, saw women as flesh, to live life “enjoying without responsibility”, and called for a genocide?

NCERT must be ashamed for peddling falsehoods about this rabid hate mongering demagogue and poisoning impressionable minds. It is even more shameful that the BJP government at the Centre has continued to allow this falsehood to be peddled right under its nose despite being in power for over a decade.

Naam Tamilar Katchi chief Seeman continues to go ballistic against Dravidianist ideologue EV Ramasamy Naicker, or EVR, hailed as Periyar by his followers. He accused them of failing in their core ideologies while distorting Tamil culture. Campaigning in Erode, Seeman mocked the Dravidianists for destroying Tamil by promoting English usage and questioned their so-called atheism, citing Durga Stalin’s religious practices.

He also criticized their anti-Brahmin stance, highlighting that Jayalalithaa, a Brahmin woman, empowered Dalit leaders more than Dravidianist parties ever did. Seeman has been attacking the “demagogue” of the Dravidianists for quite some time now and breaking down the illusion created the Dravidianists all these years.

Speaking to reporters at Erode where he is campaigning for his party candidate, he said, You talk about Periyar all the time. Who is Periyar? Social justice, Brahmin bashing, atheism – did he win in all this? He won only in one thing – he said leave this Tamil “saniyan”, mix English with Tamil and speak, write Tamil in English alphabets. You Dravidians have only won in this aspect. You have destroyed my mother tongue by removing it fully from my land. Other than creating generations of people who cannot read and write Tamil, you have never succeeded in anything. Where is your atheism? Shall I show your sister-in-law, Durga Stalin, chanting Sanskrit slokas in her puja room? Did you not go as a family to the Athivaradar temple? You said you performed “Kumbhabishekam”, a Sanskrit word for ‘Kudamuzhukku’ in 1999 temples in the state. I am speaking about Muruga because Tamil is my god. Why did you conduct the conference (Lord Murugan)? Is that atheism?”

Continuing his comments on the anti-Brahmin stance of the Dravidianist party, he said, “Next you talk about anti-brahmin stance. In the evolution of the Dravidian movement, under the leadership of the so-called Brahmin woman, all Dravidians fell at her feet. You fell at her feet and enjoyed position and status. What Periyarists could not achieve, that lady had achieved. A Brahmin woman. She fielded a Dalit candidate, Dalit Ezhumalai in a general constituency and made him win. You field A Raja – you see him as an oppressed person and not a Tamilian and make him contest in a reserved constituency in Nilgiris. You will speak about social justice, eradication of sanatana dharma? That was an era. My ancestors were enamoured by all this. Jayalalithaa made an oppressed caste person, Dhanabal as the Speaker of the Assembly – she took him to such a height that even a Chief Minister had to stand when he entered the Assembly. This is the same Brahmin woman you people are against. Did you do anything like that? Why do you talk about social justice? Where is your Periyar in all this?”
