Jana Sena Party chief and Andhra Pradesh Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan issued a strong warning to those who mock or belittle Hindu beliefs under the guise of secularism referring to a Tamil proverb, “Saadhu mirandaal kaadu kolladhu”—meaning “Even the forest cannot withstand the anger of a sage!”, cautioning that the patience and tolerance of devout Hindus should not be mistaken for weakness.

Pawan Kalyan began his address at the Murugan Bakthargal Maanadu (Murugan Devotees Conference) hosted by Hindu Munnani in Madurai by reflecting on a grim chapter in the city’s history. He spoke about the devastating invasion led by Malik Kafur, which plunged Madurai into darkness for nearly 60 years. It wasn’t until the late 14th century, he said, that light returned—when Prince Kumara Kampana of the Vijayanagar Empire rekindled the lamp of hope and revival, restoring peace and cultural pride.

Drawing from this historical episode, Pawan Kalyan emphasized a powerful lesson, “Our national faith is indestructible, no one can destroy it. Our culture is so deep that no one can shake us. From Kanyakumari to Kashmir, our Dharma was deep, it is deep today and will always be deep. This is the strength of this divine land.”

Without explicitly naming the DMK, Kalyan criticized political figures who questioned the rationale behind hosting the Murugan Conference in Tamil Nadu rather than in states like Uttar Pradesh or Gujarat. He said such remarks reflect an intent to stir divisions and discredit cultural events tied to the Tamil Hindu identity.

He slammed such thought are divisive, “Today, they are questioning Murugan; tomorrow, they might question Lord Shiva or the Goddess Amman. This line of thought is extremely dangerous.” Recalling his own religious background, he said, “I went to Sabarimala when I was 14. I’ve seen people go to Thiruthani for Thai Poosam. When I studied in Mylapore, Chennai, I went to school with sacred ash (vibuthi) on my forehead. After a short while, I noticed a change. Then, in the next 10 years, people started questioning applying vibuthi on the forehead. So, even at the age of 14, I faced these kinds of questions. Everyone might have had this experience. We didn’t make a big deal out of it because we Hindus are secularists.”

Then Kalyan called out the selective outrage targeting of Hinduism by pseudo-secularists. he said, “A Christian can be a Christian. A Muslim can be a Muslim. But for them, it’s a problem if a Hindu simply remains a Hindu. If someone is a Hindu, they are labeled a fundamentalist. This is their fake secularism. I have the right to celebrate my faith. Who are you to question that? We don’t question your beliefs; practice the same civility. Even if you don’t show respect for my religion, at least don’t disrespect it. You who question Murugan, can you ask the same questions about the religions that came from Arabia? Do you have the courage for that? That’s why I’m telling you, don’t provoke us! Don’t provoke us! Even a forest cannot withstand the anger of a sage! Even a forest cannot withstand the anger of a sage! (Sadhu Mirandaal Kaadu Kolladhu).”

Describing Lord Murugan as a deity revered not only in Tamil Nadu but across the Indian subcontinent, he said, “Murugan is Karthikeya in the North, Subrahmanya in Andhra and Karnataka. This conference is not about regional politics but about our shared spiritual heritage.”

He expressed deep concern over the trend of religious mockery, especially incidents involving ridicule of sacred hymns like the Kanda Sashti Kavasam. Such actions, he said, amount to direct attacks on the sentiments of Tamil Hindus.

He also reflected on the Kanda Sashti Kavacham controversy in Tamil Nadu and urged everyone to defend their faith and culture. “They ridicule our songs and traditions. Who gave them the right to insult others’ beliefs?” he asked, urging Hindus to stand united in protecting dharma. “Change is inevitable,” he concluded.

Blasting pseudo-secularist once again Pawan Kalyan said, “In our country, secularism is a convenient word for a lot of people, specifically atheists who don’t believe in God. What do atheists say? “They don’t believe in God.” If they say they don’t believe in God then they shouldn’t believe in any god. But in our country, atheists are such that they only don’t believe in Hindu gods. That is the definition of atheist secularism in our country. This is the issue in our country. Secularism is no discrimination against anybody in the name of religion, but our country’s secularists have no discrimination against anybody in the name of religion, except Hinduism, Hindu gods, and Hindu culture. They abuse Hindu culture and abuse Hindu gods; that is secularism for them. They don’t have the guts to point out any other religion except Hindu Dharma. This group of atheists, this group of secularists, has been given a weapon by the constitution: freedom of speech. They have gotten used to speaking whatever they want and abusing our gods. If they abuse our gods, we shouldn’t get angry or worried because it’s freedom of speech. They’ll keep abusing, and we just have to be peaceful because we are Hindus. This has to change. If this doesn’t change, it will be very difficult to sustain our religion and dharma. Anywhere in our country, being a Hindu… “I am not a fanatic Hindu, I am a committed Hindu.” I respect Islam, I respect Christianity, but what I ask is: Don’t disrespect my Hindu dharma. Don’t speak about our ‘aram’ (righteousness/values). This is my pleading.”

Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan voiced deep concern over the recent fire that destroyed Kurma village’s farm community temple near Hiramandalam. Calling the incident deeply unfortunate, he emphasized the need for a thorough investigation and assured that the government would provide all necessary assistance to the affected community.

Kurma village, established by ISKCON, is known for its spiritual values, commitment to traditional living, natural farming, and Vedic education. Pawan Kalyan acknowledged its cultural significance and said it stands as a rare example of sustainable heritage worth preserving in today’s fast-changing world.

The fire reportedly broke out in a prayer room constructed from mud and straw, sparking suspicion among the locals about possible foul play. However, Srikakulam SP K.V. Maheswara Reddy on 14 June 2025 clarified in a statement that initial investigations found no evidence of malicious intent or external involvement.

Residents explained that lighting oil lamps for prayer is a daily practice and that these are typically extinguished afterward. Officials believe that an unattended lamp might have led to the blaze. Samples and evidence from the site have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for further analysis.

What the Head Priest Says?

Speaking to the local media, the temple priest Charan Das recounted, “Everything happened on the night of the 10th, Tuesday, around 9:45 PM. Usually, all our activities conclude by 8 PM. By 8:30 PM, the temple hall is completely closed. The structure is made entirely of palm leaves, standing at a height of at least 25 feet and measuring about 120 by 60 feet in size.

At exactly 9:45 PM, a fire broke out in one corner of the temple. That spot houses the Radha-Krishna idols. There are no lamps or candles left burning after we finish. Our routine is very strict — everything is shut by 8:30 PM, and the priest exits with a small lantern. Even if by chance a lamp was left lit, the nearby houses would have clearly noticed it and alerted us immediately.

But on that particular day, everything was shut by 8:30 PM. After that, no one was inside. Suddenly by 9:45 PM, flames erupted in the corner, and within just 10 minutes — by 9:55 — the fire had spread rapidly. The entire structure, including the straw roof, caught fire all at once. Though it had rained earlier that evening, which usually reduces fire risk, the structure still burned down in seconds. It was as if petrol had been poured — that’s how intense and fast the fire spread. The heat was so strong that no one could go within 50 feet of it. Even now, four days later, we can still feel the residual heat.

We stood and watched in disbelief as the fire consumed everything. The flames reached all corners, even areas covered with cross beams and diamond-pattern wooden ventilation slats. It’s shocking — both the top and bottom caught fire almost simultaneously.”

The anchor questioned, “I have a serious doubt here. For such a massive fire to break out, either an electrical fault or an open flame should be involved. But there was no electricity in the area, and no lamps were left burning.”

Charan Das replied, “That leaves us with only one possibility — foul play. It seems likely that someone, driven by jealousy or resentment, may have done this intentionally. Kurma village promotes spiritual values and traditional living. Every day, we get around 300–400 visitors. About 20–30 people even stay to learn how our ancestors lived. Some come to study the Bhagavad Gita. There’s a noble spirit here. But just as in ancient times — even during Prahlada’s era — whenever there is devotion, there are always forces working against it. We suspect that someone who doesn’t want this dharmic way of life to thrive may have done this. Today, we see similar incidents happening elsewhere too — idols being vandalized or temples being targeted. We left behind jobs and city life to live peacefully and simply. That’s the kind of community we have here.”

Hindu Munnani is set to organize a grand Murugan Devotees Conference in Madurai on Sunday, 22 June 2025, at Madurai, with prominent national leaders including Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan scheduled to attend as chief guests.

Former Meghalaya Governor Shri Shanmuganathan has also been invited.

The event aims to raise awareness about the neglect of Tamil Nadu’s Murugan temples, especially the revered Arupadai Veedu — the six abodes of Lord Murugan, which hold deep spiritual significance for Tamil Hindus across the world. The organizers have highlighted poor maintenance, lack of basic amenities for padayatra devotees, and the ongoing threat to temple lands and sacred hills through encroachment.

Despite the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) department collecting thousands of crores from devotees, complaints persist regarding the condition of these temples. The Hindu Munnani has stressed that the Madras High Court’s directives on temple maintenance and asset protection have not been effectively implemented.

The conference is being positioned as a spiritual and cultural assertion of Tamil Hindus’ right to worship and protect their traditions. It is the duty of every Tamil Hindu to safeguard our temples, our god, and our right to worship.

Hindu Munnani’s South Bharat organizer Shri K. Bhakthan formally invited various dignitaries.

DMK HR&CE Minister Statement

However, the event has drawn sharp criticism from the ruling DMK. Tamil Nadu’s HR&CE Minister Sekar Babu dismissed the conference, claiming that “true Murugan devotees will not attend” the gathering organized by Hindu organizations. Speaking in Nellai while inspecting the renovation works at the Nellaiappar Temple, he alleged that the conference is politically motivated and divisive.

“A conference that aims to divide people on the basis of religion and language will definitely not be attended by those who have true devotion to Murugan. You know when they will come? On 7 July 2025, at Tiruchendur, something we’ve never seen before. We would have heard such things only in the northern states. But never seen before in history, in Tamil Nadu, temple renovations worth ₹400 crore are nearing completion, and the Kudamuzhukku (consecration) ceremony will be held soon. We’ll celebrate with a week-long festival — and it is only for that festival that true devotees of Murugan will come,” said Sekar Babu.

The upcoming Madurai event is expected to see participation from thousands of Murugan devotees, asserting not only faith but also demanding accountability and better governance of temple affairs in Tamil Nadu.

Part-time politician Vijay has often found success by remaking hit Telugu films for the Tamil audience. While he currently copies his political path of the DMK, he surprised many during his first general council meeting by quoting lines from Alfred Lord Tennyson’s poem The Brook—a gesture previously used by Telugu actor-turned-politician and Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister.

During his brief 15-minute speech, Vijay attempted to conclude on a poetic note, quoting: “Before concluding my speech, a few words from William Blake… ‘Men may come, men may go, but I go on forever.’”

The problem? He misattributed the quote to William Blake, an English poet and painter.

However, the quote isn’t from William Blake at all—it’s a well-known refrain from Alfred Lord Tennyson’s poem The Brook.

In 2020, Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan inspired his Jana Sena Party (JSP) cadres by quoting lines from Alfred Lord Tennyson’s poem The Brook: “Men may come and men may go, but I go on forever.” His relentless journey to his current position began in 2014 when he founded the party, overcoming numerous struggles while steadfastly upholding his principles and working tirelessly to build its structure. Advocating a centrist approach, JSP focused on grassroots efforts and policy-driven activism.

Although the party did not contest the 2014 elections, its support was instrumental in securing victory for the TDP-BJP alliance in Andhra Pradesh. Over the years, JSP gained prominence by highlighting pressing social issues, such as the chronic kidney disease crisis in Uddanam in 2017—an issue recognized by the WHO as one of the least understood and least publicized nephropathies. The party later led protests against forced land acquisition, illegal mining in reserved forests, and drought-related concerns in 2018.

In 2019, JSP contested its first elections, winning one MLA seat with around 6% of the vote share. It then shifted its focus toward grassroots activism, addressing farmer welfare, illegal sand mining, women’s safety, and land encroachment. By early 2024, Pawan Kalyan played a pivotal role in forging an alliance between JSP, TDP, and BJP, known as Kūṭami (meaning Alliance). The coalition secured a landslide victory in both the general and state legislative assembly elections, with JSP winning all 21 MLA seats and two MP seats it contested, emerging as a crucial part of the ruling government in Andhra Pradesh.

Meanwhile, part-time-politician Vijay, seemingly unaware of the groundwork involved, has been criticized and even ridiculed for blindly imitating Kalyan’s footsteps. His misattribution of the poem’s original author has only added to mockery, making him appear more like a political novice than a serious leader.

Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and Janasena Party founder, Pawan Kalyan, has criticized pseudo-secularists for fueling communalism in India, claiming their silence and political motivations harm the country’s unity. He argued that true secularism should be practiced in its purest form, not manipulated for vote bank politics. I am even ready to die for Bharat,” Kalyan asserted.

Addressing the 12th Foundation Day event of his party in Pithapuram, Kalyan emphasized his role as a staunch supporter of Sanatan Dharma and highlighted his party’s resilience in overcoming multiple challenges. He reflected on the formation of the Janasena Party in 2014, noting that it began as a solo endeavor, and expressed his commitment to nurturing 100 influential leaders from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana who could make a significant impact on the country.

Our party faced tough odds, but we stood strong. Even after the loss in 2019, we didn’t back down. We continued to uphold the Janasena, and we are now set to win all 21 seats we contested in the upcoming 2024 polls,” Kalyan remarked.

Kalyan reaffirmed that his ideology is based on unity in diversity, with Sanatan Dharma (Hinduism) as a core belief. He argued that communalism in India is a consequence of “pseudo-secularism,” pointing to historical examples of Hindu-Muslim unity, including the contributions of Hindu kings like those of the Vijayanagara empire. He said, Because of Sanatana Dharma, the Vijayanagara kings built a mosque. Because of Sanatana Dharma, they soaked Bangladesh with the blood of Hindus and liberated Bangladesh. If you know this history, how many of you know the difficulties of partition? You shout movies, movies, movies, you get drunk there. You don’t want me to drink there. I am a fan of Amitabh, I am a fan of Chiranjeevi, but I am a bigger fan of the country.

Kalyan went on to criticize the role of secularism in contemporary politics, particularly the inconsistent application of justice. He called out the double standards of certain politicians who condemn wrongdoings based on religious identity, while refusing to take action against those who incite violence. He said, I once asked a senior leader in Visag what I asked was what is secularism, what is the true meaning of secularism. And so the word came up. What I asked was if a Hindu commits a mistake, condemn him, if he betrays a Muslim, condemn him, punish him. Similarly, if a Muslim hates a Hindu and attacks him, punish them both. The punishment is the same. Otherwise, if we do this, we’ll lose votes; if we do that, we lose votes. They are politicizing the votes for this very reason. Why are they hyping this up? It’s because of this. Because of pseudo secularists. This is happening today. Because of you, pseudo secularists. Because of you. If you applied in the true spirit there would have been no need for the changes what are there today because of your mistake.

He stressed that true secularism must involve treating all communities equally and fairly, without political expediency. Pawan Kalyan said, True secularism should be applied in its true spirit, not for damn convenient vote-bank politics. Don’t! Don’t do it! Jana Sena is not for it. We will declare wrong as wrong.” Strongly denouncing the attacks on Hindu traditions, he raised the question, “If idols of Lord Sri Ram are beheaded, Hindu gods are mocked with vulgar language, and deities like Goddess Lakshmi and Bathukamma are insulted, why is no one allowed to question it? But if a deity from another religion is insulted, ‘secularism’ suddenly becomes an issue. This hypocrisy is unacceptable.

He also spoke passionately about the importance of respecting all religions, citing examples of how his beliefs are shaped by Sanatan Dharma’s teachings of respect and compassion. He emphasized the need for punishment when any individual or group commits violence, regardless of their religion, to prevent further division.

Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan entered the ongoing language debate by accusing Tamil Nadu of hypocrisy. He pointed out that while Tamil Nadu’s leaders oppose the use of Hindi, they permit Tamil films to be dubbed in Hindi for financial gain. Speaking on the occasion of his party’s foundation day, Kalyan emphasized that India requires multiple languages, including Tamil, for national unity.

During the Jana Sena’s 12th Foundation Day event in Pithapuram, Kalyan remarked, I do not understand why some criticize Sanskrit. Why do Tamil Nadu politicians oppose Hindi while allowing their movies to be dubbed in Hindi for financial gain? They want money from Bollywood but refuse to accept Hindi—what kind of logic is that?

Kalyan also criticized DMK government in Tamil Nadu for its “unfair” treatment of workers from Hindi-speaking regions like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. He highlighted that Tamil Nadu hosts a large number of migrant workers from these states, as well as from West Bengal and Haryana, with estimates suggesting that between 15 to 20 lakh workers reside there.

They seek revenue from Hindi-speaking states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Chhattisgarh, but still claim they don’t want Hindi. Isn’t that contradictory? They welcome workers from Bihar but reject the language. Why is there such a contradiction? Shouldn’t this attitude change? Kalyan further questioned.

His comments come amid a heated dispute between the BJP-led Centre and the DMK government in Tamil Nadu over the ‘three-language formula’ introduced in the New Education Policy. Tensions escalated when the Centre withheld ₹2,152 crore allocated for Tamil Nadu’s PM SHRI scheme, citing the state’s refusal to implement the scheme.

Tamil Nadu has long opposed the ‘three-language formula,’ perceiving it as an attempt to impose Hindi, while the Centre maintains that the policy aims to equip youth with the language skills needed for broader employment opportunities.

He wrote, Let’s all unite together in condemning the detention of ISKON Bangladesh Priest ‘ Chinmoy Krishna Dasby Bangladesh police. Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has reiterated his firm stance on protecting Sanatana Dharma, asserting that any insult to it will be met with a strong response. Speaking at a public meeting in Ballarpur during his campaign for the BJP alliance in the Maharashtra Assembly elections, Kalyan emphasized the importance of respecting all religions while defending the Hindu faith.

“We follow Sanatana Dharma and respect everyone, regardless of religion. However, if Sanatana Dharma is insulted, we will respond appropriately,” said Kalyan, addressing a gathering ahead of the state elections. He also praised the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) for its significant role in shaping India’s growth. “India could not have reached where it is today without the support of RSS,” Kalyan added.

The Maharashtra elections, scheduled for the day after tomorrow, are witnessing a direct contest between the Mahayuti alliance, comprising BJP, Shiv Sena, and the Nationalist Congress Party, and the Maha Vikas Aghadi, which includes Congress, Uddhav Shiv Sena, and the Nationalist Congress (SP). Raj Thackeray’s Nava Nirman Sena, Bahujan Samaj, and Vanchit Bahujan Aaghadi parties are also contesting separately.

Kalyan, who leads the Jana Sena Party in Andhra Pradesh, expressed his commitment to the development of both Maharashtra and Sanatana Dharma. “India is currently the fifth-largest economy, and the NDA government is working tirelessly to elevate it to the third position. We must ensure this progress continues,” he said, urging voters to support the right candidates in the upcoming elections.

Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan on Sunday warned leaders of the opposition YSR Congress Party that if any harm is caused to IAS and IPS officials, suo moto cases will be booked against them. The Jana Sena leader lashed out at former chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and other leaders of YSRCP for threatening police officers.

Pawan Kalyan, who holds the portfolio of forests and environment, attended a programme a Guntur to remember the sacrifices of forest officials who laid down their lives while performing their duties. Later, the Deputy Chief Minister told media persons that the former chief minister used the officers at his whims and fancies by claiming that he would remain in power for 20 years. The actor-turned-politician said that the former chief minister is now only an MLA but he should act with responsibility. The Jana Sena leader took exception to the YSRCP leader warning Tirupati SP Subbarayudu and DGP. Stating that the officials were discharging their responsibilities, the Deputy Chief Minister said they would not be cowed down by threats.

He made it clear that the government would not keep quiet if there was any harm caused to officials. Pawan Kalyan came out in defence of the police officials after his recent remarks pulling out them for their inaction to check crimes against women and children. Last week, he had also publicly criticised Home Minister V. Anitha for not discharging her responsibilities and had even remarked that he would be forced to take over the home portfolio. The Jana Sena leader was unhappy with the way police handling the cases relating to inappropriate social media posts against leaders of the ruling coalition. “Why are you in police force if you don’t have courage,” he had asked.

Anitha, who belongs to the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), had met Pawan Kalyan two days ago. She told the media that she had taken the Deputy Chief Minister’s comments positively. On Saturday, Pawan Kalyan expressed displeasure over the attitude of police towards victims. He on behalf of Kakinada police apologised to the families of two students who died in a road accident near Tuni. He warned police against bringing a bad name to the coalition government. Pawan Kalyan also met Director General of Police Dwarka Tirumala Rao, who admitted last week that there were lapses on the part of police officers during the rule of the YSR Congress Party.

Voicing concern over continuing crimes and alleged police inaction, Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan said on Monday that if he takes over as state Home Minister, the situation would be very different. The Jana Sena leader also called for emulating Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to deal with the criminals.

He was speaking after inaugurating a science lab at Gollaprollu in Kakinada district. The actor-turned-politician expressed concern over the rapes and other crimes and reminded Home Minister V. Anitha and the police of their responsibility. “If I take responsibility for the Home Ministry, the situation will be different,” said Pawan Kalyan, who handles the portfolios of panchayat raj, forests and environment.

The Deputy CM also remarked that if the current situation continues, he must take responsibility for the Home Ministry.

Pawan Kalyan found fault with the police for not taking action in rape cases and asked what they were afraid of. “I don’t understand why the police are afraid. If you don’t have the courage, why are you in the police force? What are the political leaders and MLAs for? Are they just there to seek votes? Don’t they have a responsibility? It’s not that I can’t ask the Home Ministry and take that responsibility. If I take responsibility, the situation will be different,” he said.

He also stated that there is a need to adopt an approach like that of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in dealing with criminals. The Deputy Chief Minister attributed the present situation to the previous government’s inaction, calling it a legacy of the YSR Congress Party government.

Pawan Kalyan said in the last five years, 30,000 women went missing, but the Chief Minister did not speak. He said police were silent when the wife of the present Chief Minister was abused, and criminals threatened to kill him and harm his family members.

The actor-turned-politician said he told police officers many times that criminals have no caste or religion. “They say if they arrest a person, there will be a caste problem,” he said. Pawan Kalyan said he has made it clear to police that they should not act like they did during the previous regime.
