As tensions continue to rise in the holy city of Thirupparankundram as the government refuses to allow devotees light the Karthigai deepam at the deepathoon and the local residents continue their peaceful protests, it seems certain communities do not want peace to continue in the region.

On 26 December 2025, news of a Muslim couple being stopped by police while attempting to carry non-vegetarian food to Thirupparankundram Hill, hit the headlines.

The incident occurred on the mountain pathway leading to the hill, which houses the Lord Subramaniam Swamy Temple and the Dargah located atop the hill. Police personnel deployed for security checks noticed the couple carrying non-vegetarian food and prevented them from proceeding further.

According to the police, the couple was informed that carrying non-vegetarian food on the hill was not permitted. Following this, the couple left the food at a nearby house and continued their visit to the Dargah on Thirupparankundram Hill Dargah without the food.

This is not the first time such an attempt has been made – in 2025, Ramanathapuram MP Navas Kani, who heads the Tamil Nadu Waqf Board and is affiliated with the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), shared images on his official X handle showing Muslims consuming non-vegetarian biryani at the foothills of the sacred Thirupparankundram Murugan Temple hill.
