The state of affairs in Maharashtra is deteriorating day by day, with increasing Covid-19 cases and non-payment of salaries to frontline Corona warriors. Some of the Cabinet ministers in the Maharashtra government, who had come together to give a press conference, were questioned on this by frontline healthcare workers.

In the press conference, two women who have reportedly not been paid any salary for months, started questioning the politicians.

Immediately the cabinet ministers in the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi government got up and left the venue, without addressing the issue of their long-pending salaries or expressing any sympathy.

The video of the incident has been widely shared on social media.

The two women in the video seemed very distressed over the non-payment of salaries. They were later escorted away by the police.

Already the coalition government of Shiv Sena, NCP, and the Congress has been accused of manhandling the entire second wave corona outbreak. But what is even sadder is that people who risk their lives every day are not getting any salary from the state.

Legal Rights Observatory (LRO), a legal rights organization affiliated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), has tweeted that advocate Hrishikesh Joshi has filed a police complaint against Sharad Pawar and Nawab Malik, who is a Minister in the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maharashtra government, under IPC Sections 188, 505, 268, 269 for spreading rumours regarding Remidesivir.

According to former Chief Minister of Maharashtra and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, Devendra Fadnavis, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) spread the fake news and rumours, causing panic among the people, as the bail plea by NCP leader Nawab Malik’s son-in-law Sameer Khan in connection with a drugs case was rejected by a Mumbai court.

Muslim leaders in the state of Maharashtra have written to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray seeking relaxations in restrictions during the time of Ramzan. The request letter was sent by the Raza Academy, an Indian Muslim organisation. The request comes amid a surge in the rising cases of coronavirus in that state and the re-imposition of night curfews and lockdown-like restrictions.

The Raza Academy is a puritanical Islamic organisation that promotes Islamic beliefs through publications and research. Leaders from this group met with government officials and said that they want relaxations during Ramzan for the celebrations.

The letter reads, “As we are all going through the worst phases of the pandemic, we at the onset assure you of all the cooperation needed in tackling the virus and its spread in the state. However, we feel that lockdowns are not a measure to tackle this strange disease. On the contrary, lockdown causes more trouble to the majority of people in the state who lose their daily earnings and end up in dire circumstances”.

In 2020, when the government had announced a lockdown, Raza academy had demanded that the Iftar and other Islamic religious functions be allowed. However, that request was denied at the time.

In a significant development, Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh was transferred on Wednesday and was appointed as the Director-General of the Home Guard. Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh conveyed the news to press-persons.

Hemant Nagrale, the current Maharashtra Director-General of Police, has been appointed as the next Mumbai police chief.

The decision to transfer Singh comes after the meeting held on Monday (15 March) between Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray and NCP supremo Sharad Pawar. Param Bir Singh had also met with CM Thackeray at his official residence ”Varsha” in Mumbai on Tuesday (16 March) night.

The transfer is a fallout of the arrest of encounter specialist Sachin Waze by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) over its probe into the recovery of an explosives-laden SUV near industrialist Mukesh Ambani’s house. The NIA has confirmed that the person seen in a CCTV grab walking near the Reliance Industries chairperson’s house, on the night of February 25 when the explosives-laden vehicle was found, is indeed Waze.

The vehicle belonged to Mansukh Hiren, a 48-year-old auto spare parts businessman. Hiren was found dead on March 5 in a creek. Waze was investigating Hiren’s death.

In an official statement, the NIA has said that Waze has been arrested for “his role and involvement in placing an explosives-laden vehicle near Carmichael Road”.

Waze reportedly revealed to the NIA that top Shiv Sena leaders were involved in planting the bomb outside Mukesh Ambani’s house “Antilia”.

Amid strong rumours that Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh might resign from his post, the controversial police officer met with Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. This comes after the fallout of the arrest of encounter specialist Sachin Waze by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) over its probe into the recovery of an explosives-laden SUV near industrialist Mukesh Ambani’s house.

Singh met Thackeray at his official residence ”Varsha” in Mumbai on Tuesday (16 March) night. There are also reports that in the meeting held on Monday (15 March) between Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray and NCP chief Sharad Pawar, they discussed Singh’s dismissal, as he has now become a political liability.

As per reports published in OpIndia, Vaze reportedly revealed to NIA that top Shiv Sena leaders were involved in planting the bomb outside Mukesh Ambani’s house “Antilia”. The politicians who used the Mumbai police commissioner for their own agenda have seemingly thrown Singh under the bus and have accused him of “running his own agenda and not giving priority to politically sensitive cases, like the fake TRP scam”.

In a major embarrassment for the Uddhav Thackeray led by the Maha Vikas Aghadi government, the Bombay High Court has granted an interim stay on the allotment of 102 acres of saltpan land at Kanjurmarg for the metro car shed, Mumbai Mirror reports.

The Maha Vikas Aghadi government was looking to construct a consolidated car shed at Kanjurmarg for lines 3, 4, 4A and 6 and now the court will decide the title rights over the disputed land.

Former CM of Maharastra in his tweet said, “Government should keep its ego aside and start Metro CarShed work at Aarey immediately. It is not about who is winning, we want victory of Mumbaikars!”

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) as of now has been asked to maintain the status quo.

When Uddhav Thackeray became CM of Maharashtra, there was a huge uproar over the construction of car shed in Aarey milk colony, a suburban in Goregaon. It became a matter of ego and plans were made to shift the car shed project to Kanjurmarg away from Aarey milk colony over the protests of by ‘environmental activists’.

This led the Union government filing a petition against the decision in the High Court though cabinet minister Aditya Thackeray had stated that the revenue records show that the land allotted by the collector to MMRDA for the car depot belongs to the state of Maharashtra.

“This land is crucial for Metro Line 6, 4 and 14, apart from 3, as it will save almost ₹5500 crores of government and be a nodal point for 1 crore citizens,” Thackeray said.
