Operation Sindoor did not stop with the strikes on terror camps inside Pakistan. The ongoing attack by Pakistan and retaliation by India will be covered by The Commune on a regular basis. Here is a list of updates as reported so far.

Heavy Attacks Along Line of Control

The Indian Army has intensified its operations along the Line of Control (LoC), deploying a variety of weapons including AK-series rifles, light and medium machine guns, and shoulder-fired anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs) to target enemy bunkers and posts. The Army has officially released video footage of these operations, signaling a strategic shift towards psychological and information warfare—similar to methods employed by the Israeli Defense Forces. The release of such visuals marks a more assertive stance in the ongoing conflict with Pakistan.

Seven Terrorists Neutralized in Samba Sector

In a major counter-terrorism success, security forces eliminated seven heavily armed Pakistani infiltrators in the Samba sector along the international border in Jammu and Kashmir. The terrorists, identified as operatives of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), were intercepted and killed by the Border Security Force (BSF). This operation comes amid heightened alerts across all military cantonments following fears of attacks similar to the 2016 Pathankot incident. No casualties were reported on the Indian side.

Clarification on Government Blackout Advisories

Amid circulating concerns, authorities have clarified the rationale behind recent government advisories urging citizens to switch off lights at night. The blackout is a precautionary defense measure designed to disrupt the enemy’s use of electro-optical sensors (EOS) mounted on drones, missiles, and other surveillance platforms. These sensors, which rely on infrared signatures, can use artificial lighting to identify and lock onto targets. By reducing visible and thermal emissions, such blackouts aim to deny adversaries navigational and targeting advantages. Additionally, India retains the capability to jam or spoof GPS signals, further complicating hostile targeting systems.

Strikes Inside Pakistan: Lahore, Mianwali, and Bahawalpur Targeted

India is reportedly expanding its operations beyond border skirmishes, targeting strategic locations within Pakistan. Drone strikes have reportedlyhit military installations and cantonment gates in Lahore, while similar activity has been reported in Mianwali and Bahawalpur. Intense war drills are also underway on the Indian side, with anti-tank guided missiles being deployed in tactical exercises. Unconfirmed reports suggest that around 40 Pakistani soldiers have been killed in the recent engagements, though no official Indian statement has been issued on these figures.

India Gains Upper Hand in Information Warfare

In a notable shift, India appears to be dominating the propaganda and information space for the first time in the history of Indo-Pak hostilities. The release of verified combat footage by Indian forces has garnered widespread attention and support, both domestically and internationally. Meanwhile, Pakistan’s disinformation efforts have seen limited traction. Economically, the conflict has had a significant impact: Pakistan’s stock market has seen steep declines, while Indian defense stocks—particularly those linked to drone manufacturing—are witnessing strong gains.

Geopolitical Landscape: Mixed Global Reactions

International reactions to the conflict are evolving. India has received vocal online support from Israelis and Jewish communities around the world, marking a notable show of solidarity. In contrast, traditional supporters of Pakistan within the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) have shown restraint. Countries like Saudi Arabia and the UAE are reportedly distancing themselves from Islamabad’s position, with the UAE even offering to mediate between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. Turkey has limited its involvement to official statements, while the United States has indicated a hands-off approach. U.S. Vice President JD Vance recently stated that the India-Pakistan conflict is “not his business,” hinting at a broader recalibration of U.S. foreign policy in South Asia.

Cybersecurity Alert and Public Advisories

With cyber warfare between India and Pakistan escalating, Indian authorities are urging citizens to secure their digital presence. Citizens are advised to use strong passwords for Wi-Fi networks, phones, and email accounts to avoid becoming soft targets in the cyber conflict. Cyberattacks, even on individuals, are viewed by adversaries as symbolic victories, and the public has been urged to stay vigilant online.

Meanwhile, the activation of air raid sirens in cities like Chandigarh is being described as a standard wartime control protocol. Authorities have assured citizens that there is no cause for panic and urged restraint in sharing unverified information, especially regarding essential commodities such as fuel. The government has committed to issuing official statements should any real shortages arise.

As tensions remain high, Indian defense forces are maintaining operational readiness, and officials have warned that any further provocation from Pakistan will be met with a decisive and overwhelming response.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Saturday that the prevailing peace on the Line of Control (LoC) is because of Pakistan’s fear of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and asserted that bullets would be answered with bullets, not dialogue, and that terrorism will not be allowed to re-emerge in Jammu and Kashmir.

Addressing a series of BJP rallies in Mendhar, Rajouri, Surankote, Thanamandi, and Akhnoor constituencies in the Jammu division, ahead of the second phase of Assembly elections on September 25, Amit Shah said there were times when the government in J&K feared the enemy across the LoC. Still, today, there is no cross border firing from Pakistan because “it is afraid of PM Modi”. “We will respond to bullets (goli) with bullets and not with ‘boli’ (dialogue),” Shah said at the rally in Mendhar sub-division of Poonch district.

Addressing the rallies at Rajouri, Surankote, Thanamandi, and Akhnoor, he strongly appealed to voters to elect the BJP candidates so that the party forms a strong government in J&K, which will enable PM Modi to serve the people of the UT better and usher in an era of development, peace and prosperity. He brought the BJP candidates onto the stage and raised their hands in anticipation of victory. Slamming the dynasties of Abdullahs, Muftis and the Gandhis, he accused these three families of being responsible for the “destruction of J&K” and supporting terrorism through their weak and ineffective policies.

They used your vote to prosper as dynastic rulers and when things became hot for them with the beginning of terrorism, Farooq Abdullah chose to go to London for his summer holiday,” he said.

Citing the National Conference’s manifesto, which promises to restore Article 370 and review reservations given to Paharis, Gujjars, Bakarwals, and the OBCs, HM Shah said the country’s Constitution granted these communities reservations. The Abdullahs, Muftis, and the Gandhis did not allow these to be implemented in J&K during the 70 years of their rule.

Shah told people living close to the LoC that they have always fought as India’s soldiers since 1947 whenever there was conflict with Pakistan and the nation “salutes your valour”.

… I could never think I could address people in Mendhar, just 2 km from the LoC. Our Gujjar, Bakarwal and Pahari brothers have always stood as soldiers of the country whenever there was a war with Pakistan after 1947.

Today, I want to tell you from the mountains of Mendhar that the entire country is proud of you. I appeal to you to join hands with PM Narendra Modi to protect the country. This election will end the monopoly of three families of Abdullahs, Muftis and Gandhis. They have stopped democracy from taking root in J&K. If PM Modi had not come to power in 2014, there would be no Panchayat, BDC and DDC elections here.”

It is because of Narendra Modi and (BJP’s candidate) Murtaza (Khan) Bhai that today 30,000 youth from here are working in different parts of the country,” the Home Minister said.

In the days of Farooq Abdullah and the Mufti family, 40,000 innocent people were killed. PM Modi decided to put an end to terrorism. In place of stones, we have given laptops in the hands of the youth. Omar Abdullah now threatens that terrorism will come back. I want to tell him that despite his patronage, our government is in power in the country, and Modiji is the PM. We will never allow terrorism to re-emerge in the Valley,” he said emphatically.

He listed the BJP government’s benefits and said it had increased common man facilities. “We gave Rs 5 lakh free healthcare. Did they do it in 70 years? Modi will give you Rs 10 lakh healthcare insurance in the future. Modiji has proposed in the Cabinet recently that instead of making macadamized roads under the PMGSY for villages with a population of 500, we should have a macadamized road for every village with a population of 50 people,” he said, adding that this will benefit mountainous areas.

He said that the National Conference opposed reservation to Paharis by telling Gujjars and Bakarwals that Paharis would cut into their reservation quota.

Before reservations, our Gujjar/Bakarwal brothers would look for a peon’s job for their children. With reservations, your children can now become Collectors and District SPs. They can get admission to medical and engineering colleges on reservation. This right was guaranteed to you by the Constitution of India. Farooq Abdullah and his friends had not passed on this right to you. They now say that they will review the quota. Don’t worry, even if they hang themselves upside down, nobody can take away your reservation,” he stated.

HM Shah promised to fulfil their demand for the winter camp office of the Collector in Mendhar “before this winter sets in” and higher secondary schools. “We will give our youth from this area guns by recruiting them into the police, army, and the CRPF,” he said, promising special recruitment camps for this purpose.

If you bring us to power in J&K, we will give Rs 18,000 annually to the eldest lady of each family, and we will give two LPG cylinders for free. Farmers will get Rs 10,000 instead of the present Rs 6,000. We will reduce the electric power tariff by half and give 500 units of power free.”

We promise that Poonch and Rajouri will become tourist destinations better than Pahalgam, Kishtwar will get an Ayush park, Udhampur will become a pharmaceutical hub, Jammu will get metro, Tawi River Front. The years of discrimination with Jammu region will end forever,” he assured. Union Home Minister is in J&K on a three-day-long visit to campaign for the BJP. He is slated to address a rally in Reasi district on Sunday.

During the 13th round of Corps Commander level talks with China in Moldo-Chushul on Sunday (10 October), the Indian Army said in a statement no forward movement was made on the issue of disengagement at the remaining friction points in eastern Ladakh.

After the talks, the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) of China accused India of making “unreasonable and unrealistic demands,” and according to the Communist Parties People’s Daily the spokesperson of China’s Western Theatre Command said, “India still insisted on the unreasonable and unrealistic demands, which made the negotiations more difficult,”.

“China hopes the Indian side will not misjudge the situation, cherish the hard-won situation in the China-India border areas, show sincerity and take actions, and work with China to jointly safeguard peace and stability in the border areas,” the spokesperson added.

However, before the talks on Sunday, there were reports that the two sides were close to a deal on disengagement of troops in the Hot Springs area or Patrolling Point 15, which lies around 30 km north of Gogra. But this is not new because before talks China always talks of disengagement but after the meeting, it blames the lack of progress on India.

The Indian statement reads that the Chinese side did not come up with any “forward looking proposals” on the issue of disengagement and was “not agreeable” to India’s “constructive suggestions”

“The meeting thus did not result in resolution of the remaining areas,” the statement issued by the Indian Army read with regards to the resolution of issues at the remaining friction points in eastern Ladakh.

However, both India and China have agreed to maintain communications and also to maintain stability, and the statement further reads, “It is our expectation that the Chinese side will take into account the overall perspective of bilateral relations and will work towards early resolution of the remaining issues while fully abiding by bilateral agreements and protocols.”.

China has been building shelters and other infrastructure to sustain its deployments at breakneck speed at a time when the ‘LoCisation’ of the Line of Actual Control (LAC) looks increasingly inevitable.

Army chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane said, “if they continue to stay there through the second winter, it definitely means that we will be in a kind of LC (Line of Control) situation (referring to the Indian and Pakistani deployments on the LoC), though not an active LC as is there on the western front,”.

On China’s continuous development of infrastructure to maintain its deployments along the LAC, General Naravane said at the Indian Today conclave said, “Yes, it is a matter of concern that the large-scale build-up has occurred and continues to be in place, and to sustain that kind of a build-up, there has been an equal amount of infrastructure development on the Chinese side,”.

General Naravane made it very clear that if the PLA chose to stay so will the Indian Army and will be keeping a close watch on all these developments.

The Indian Army has opened its very own cafe at the Line of Control (LoC). This cafe is all set to serve visitors who come to see the Kaman Aman Setu, which is the endpoint of India’s forward post. This cafe is open not only to the people residing in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir but also to visitors from other parts of the country.

“We have opened the coffee shop for everyone visiting the Kaman Post for motivational purposes for the people of Jammu and Kashmir, after having a selfie at the bridge, people can come and have snacks here and they can take home several souvenirs to take along with them. A sixty feet national flag flutters at the LoC”, said Vishal Dev, Major Indian Army.

This venture would not have been possible a couple of years ago, thanks to Pakistan’s constant ceasefire violations. But, after an agreement was established between these two countries, the cafe has been established at Uri and is now open to the public.

Speaking about this, Qazi Ahmad, a local resident said, “After the division of the two countries, people who were related, friends became distant. When both the countries worked on improving the relations. All the distance was completely finished when these steps were taken. A coffee shop has been opened and it’s to grow the relationships between people and army. The way army has won hearts of people here is worth appreciating.”

People living along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir have always been victims of cross border firing and shelling. The Pakistani military and terrorists routinely attacked border villages . To address this, a ceasefire agreement was signed between the two countries in 2003 despite which shelling continued to happen. The number of attacks had been on the rise since 2006.

However in 2019, the India’s Narendra Modi led government scrapped Article 370 and 35A that granted special status for Jammu and Kashmir and the state was divided into 2 territories – Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, to which the Pakistan strongly objected. In response, there have been more than 5,000 ceasefire violations from the Pakistani side in the past year alone.

In this context, an agreement was reached between the Directors General of Military Operations of the two countries to fully comply with the Ceasefire Agreement from the night of February 24. Since then, cross-border raids have ceased. Infiltration across the border has also stopped. People who lived in fear of being bombed and shot at any moment, are now at peace. Children are able to go to school without fear. Men and women are taking care of their business..

After a long hiatus, in the villages adjoining the Poonch and Rajouri districts, weddings are being held with festive spirit. Absence of any firing and bombing for the last 46 days has given the people along the LoC a new hope.

After Pakistani troops initiated unprovoked firing along the Line of Control (LoC), the Indian Army retaliatory action has led to the death of five Pakistani soldiers and three injured in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, Defence sources said.

“Pakistan initiated unprovoked firing and shelling targeting civilian facilities in Mankote sector of the LoC in Poonch district on Thursday. The damage was caused to civilian properties due to indiscriminate targeting of civilian facilities by the Pakistan army. This necessitated befitting retaliatory action by the Indian army in which five Pakistani soldiers were killed and three injured. Several of their bunkers have also been destroyed”, sources said.

The two sides exchanged fire that lasted for 2 hours after Pakistan again violated the bilateral ceasefire agreement signed by the two countries in 1999.

As per data, 30 civilians have been killed and over 100 injured in over 3200 ceasefire violations by Pakistan on the LoC since January 2020.

Women soldiers of Assam Rifles have been deployed at Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara to keep a check and balance on the drug smuggling racket. It is reported that they had got an intelligence report about women and children being used for smuggling, and hence had been stationed there. This area is close to Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK), and it is suspected that illegal activities might be carried out, as Pakistan-backed terrorists make attempts to infiltrate into the Indian side.

They have also been entrusted with the task of guarding the national border close to the LoC. Deployed at an altitude of ten thousand feet, at the top of the Sadhana Top of the LoC, nearly half a dozen ‘rifle women’, led by a woman officer of the Indian Army, have been tasked to guard the road going towards the LoC.

This deployment is an important move since it marks one of the first equal provisions that have been granted to women in the defence sector following the recent grant of the permanent commission for women in the Indian Army.

Assam Rifles, which is India’s oldest paramilitary force, has a unit called ‘Rifle Women’ of which these women soldiers are a part.
